I purchased a used door to replace broken door. Tried to find information about the arm installation and saw something about it should be in the 1-2 o'clock position. Do your instructions give any specifics about how to line up the two arm pieces to make it work correctly? Thanks for your help. Glad I saw your video. lol I trust a person who will admit to goofing up every now and then. Jesus bless. If not, does anyone else viewing this happen to know the answer to my question?

I just rechecked the instructions and all it says is to locate a set of holes to make the assembly as long as possible to increase rigidity. There was no mention of the angle the bracket should be connecting to the door. I hope this helps.

Your question matters! Nobody wants to answer this one! It's not just two holes that line up! It matters

So I had loose bolt that fell off on this adjustment arm. My garage buckle a bit but not major. I place the bolts back in place base on previously marked but after a week, I ran into a snag. It appear Adj arm was to close to my top panel and created a lot of pressure. Now I’m questioning previous owner installer. But can’t find the correct spec. Tons of video show it 90 degree when close, some at a angle, some are longer lol. I’m guessing it depends on the arm? Size? Type of panel? 😂 Might just settle with this answer, longer distance for rigidity and won’t hit my top panel

Trust me on this, you will want to go get a strut reinforcement bar that goes along the top of garage door and a reinforcement bracket for opener. Why? Because that j-arm opener will rip right off your garage door and destroy that top panel.

That does seem like a much stronger solution. I rechecked my configuration, and the previous owner/installer had used through-bolts with a bracket to secure the J-arm to the door panel. This installation configuration has been working for over 20 years, so I feel confident that it does not require any further reinforcement. Thank you for the suggestion! I am sure other viewers may not have the same reinforcement I do and should therefore consider adding the reinforcement you suggested.

Mine just ripped off the door and it is why I’m here. Thanks.

@@bigdavemills $1500 later, I'm making sure it never ripps off again. Tyipcally you have to replce entire garage door, reinforcement after it rips and buckles door is often futile.
