Garage Door Cable Replacement and Tensioning on Garador / Hormann G3 2000 Series Up and Over Canopy

I couldn't find a video of this same type of door and spool so I've made a video to help anyone with the same issue. It was a bit of a learning curve but not difficult to do. Just be VERY careful with the torsion spring as it requires a LOT of tension!

hi, great video. i will be attempting this on the weekend. however I did try to get the existing cable free from behind the cast metal drum after freeing the metal stud from the drum but the gap is to small for it to pass through.... can you help with this?

Does it slide out from the side of the roller? I can't actually remember now it was a while back that I did it.

I have the same issue, any ideas? It definitely it supposed to slip out the side but I can’t find a way of making the gap big enough to get the stop through

Do you release the tension on the torsion spring before replacing the cables?

I did yeh but not sure if you can do it with the tension still on

@@Street_Fitter it's a garador, funny thing is I've installed loads of new ones for customers, but never repaired one, ordered rollers both sides and the two wires £40

I slammed the door a bit too hard one day and the cable on one side jumped off the spool and I couldn't get it back on so had to end up cutting then both just so I could get the door down lol anyway I tried phoning the guy that installed it but he was busy for weeks apparently so thought I'd try fixing it myself just ordered the 2 cables off eBay was only £5 for them as well so figured wouldn't matter if I messed up but yeh was straightforward enough just did a video because I couldn't find one on that type of door. The spools were both fine tho.

I have the same door and the cable is slack on one side. To tighten the cable do I increase the tension on the spring? I’m a bit confused

Hi, I have a door like yours but I followed same instruction still can't get it up the cables feels loose not very tight can you help please

Just need to loosen the allen key screws that lock the spools and wind them by hand until tight then tighten the screws again. After that you need to turn the spring until you get enough tension.
