I was a senior in high school in 70. I remember sitting in a 70 Torino Twister at Turner Ford in Wichita. SCJ 4 speed if memory serves me right. I looked into getting it but had to stick with racing my 57 Olds. Thanks!

I was 18, driving a 1970 440 Challenger. Dad was driving a 1970 428 SCJ Mach I. Shaker hood, Nodular 4-spd top loader, Nodular rear end. Forgot the gears. The works. My car was not original. Dad's was. Dad blew the motor(spun a bearing), had Louie Unser's shop rebuild it. He "Trans-amed" the front suspession. Made the car handle very well. Was a bit lowered, but 100% stock looking. Gold. Or Mustard maybe. If we were side by side at a "light", he'd get me every time, with a good launch. But if he missed his launch even slightly, I got him. This was the mid eighties. My car was not Barret Jackson worthy. Dad's was, but times were tuff. He sold it in around '86, for $4.000. I'd like to have either one of those cars today . . . ✌️😎

The axle ratio determined if it was a 428 CJ or SCJ. 3.91 0r 4.30 gear came with the SCJ(lemans rods, oil cooler, 1UA crankshaft)
@lumbeewarrior25605 ай бұрын
And that's alot of miles driving around with 3.91 gears and no overdrive. 55 cruise RPM would be close to 3000 rpm!
@Bbbbad7246 ай бұрын
I think they had the 428SCJ and close ratio 4 speed. LeMans Rods and the Canadian heads. Fast cars. I didn’t realize they put the C6 in the Drag Pack cars. That is a very rare car!

I know where there’s a 71 gto judge that was put up on blocks in the corner of a garage in the mid 80’s. A girl I graduated with’s mother bought it new and barely drove it and the pinion seal or something stupid and easily fixable went out on it and they just put it away and quit driving it. I haven’t seen it in 2 decades but I’m sure it’s still in immaculate shape, every time I see her mother around town I still beg her to sell it to me, I’ll tip over if she ever says yes! 🤣

These types of people will gladly try to sell it to you only after they have let the condition of the car to decline to the point where it has Fred Flintstone style floor pans.

Whoever brought the paint back didn't protect the edges. At 6:00 you can see where paint is burnt through getting close to primer never ever buff edges the original paint is very thin on these era cars.
@kennethjacobs21516 ай бұрын
Were these cars painted in enamel ?

That's not from buffing, that's from natural wear and tear rubbing against the paint over the years.

I’m not the most knowledgeable classic Mustang enthusiast but I have never heard of the Twister Special trim package. This here might be one of the few times where parking a car for decades might have been in the cars best interest. The Cobra Jet 428 would have most certainly have totaled the car.

Same here. I much preferred the '70 over the '69 . . . ✌️😎
@jonwalter63176 ай бұрын
I prefer the 69 because of the 4 headlights. But those fake side scoops on the 69s were kind of dopey, and take it from me, they could be a real pain. My mom had a red 69 sportsroof 351 4V (don't know if it was a Windsor or a Cleveland) and when I waxed it if I got the wax on the plastic inserts in the scoops it was a terrible task to get it out. The surface is like a closed honeycomb pattern, and it trapped the wax. Dad sold it before I was driving age. My big brother (who did get to drive it) and I loved that car. I still remember the day Dad and I were out in the country on a smooth two lane state highway coming back from his friend's house - he asked me to look over at the speedometer - it was pegged past 120 - and he softly but firmly said "don't tell your mother."

Why did they bother with an oil cooler for drag racing?
@lumbeewarrior25605 ай бұрын
It was for keeping the oil cool when hwy driving, not racing. With 3.91-4.30 gears it's turning 3-3500rpm at 55. That's alot of RPM for cruising and creates heat in the engine and oil .
