You have to find out what kind of dryer exhaust vent you have. With Dryer vents some are made to have a protective vent flap so that a lot of pressure is needed to open the vent. You can remove it if you have easy access. I had planned to do this, but don’t have the easiest access and wasn’t positive I had the inner protective flap and that my AC was strong enough to move the vent flap to open the dryer exhaust way like a more powerful dryer can.

Thanks for the great video and I'm about to do this. You mention that you just laid the exhaust vent on top of the soffit instead of cutting a hole and fitting it. Then in your video I can see that the vent it's not laying flat on the soffit - maybe you couldn't get it to and because of the kink it would make in the flexible hose. Does this mean that some of the air is just blowing into the attic space (since heat rises), and hopefully any extra moisture or condensation is falling onto and out the soffit?
@DebtLife_Projects Жыл бұрын
For the video, yup, I just laid it there and aimed it into the sofit. It wouldn't fit through the gap that was there, just like you said, I didn't wanna pinch the hose and force it. But I did go back later to address that. I used a piece of plywood, cut it to the size of that gap, cut a hole in the plywood for the vent hose to fit inside of, and sealed it all up. So now all of the exhaust has nowhere to go but outside. I'll have to do a follow up video, I get so many questions, and i've changed it since this video. But it's still working great, all these years later, no issues at all

I'm trying to figure out a solution for a portable AC unit in my garage but I've been mulling it over for about 2 years now. I have a concrete block wall I'd have to go through to add a direct vent outside and that doesn't seem like a practical solution. The only other options I can think of is to go through the ceiling like is shown here or I thought about cutting a vent directly into my garage door which I could cover with a magnetic cover when not in use, but then I'd have to connect the vent each time I used the AC and would have to remember not to disconnect it before opening the garage door.

@@DebtLife_Projects I put a ceiling fan in my garage that helps a great deal as far as circulation, and with lighting, too. If you keep your eye on Craigslist and yard saless, you can pick one up for a song. I actually picked my current one up (a Hampton Bay 54" 5 blade) on the side of the road where a neghbor had replaced one on their patio and just threw the old one out. (It worked perfectly, too.) If you mount your A/C unit up high, the cooler air eventually goes down anyway, as heat rises and will move towards the units air intake. A scoop isn't really needed. We replaced our central air unit a few years ago and instead of letting the contractor throw out all of the old insulated ductwork, I laid it between the rafters over the garage ceiling. That made a big difference in the amount of heat in the garage. Plus other insulation that I picked up here and there.( An example would be like that styrofoam packaging thingy in the box your ducting came in. I laid stuff like it and other pieces of styrofoam (the stuff is everywhere) between the ceiling supports. It doesn't have hardly any weight yet has insulation value. It keeps the stuff out of the landfills, too.) I Picked up a portable A/c at a yard sale recently and was thinking about ducting it similar to the way that you did. We have ridge vents in the roof, as well as two dome vents, so I really have no need to extend the ductwork to the soffet. Thanks for posting the video and showing how it worked out. Take Care!

I recently completed installation of a Hisense 14,000 btu (8,000?) in a 417 sq. ft. garage with three interior walls, insulated ceiling and insulated 12' wide garage door. The exhaust is also vented out the soffit. Since the 6" vent duct is convoluted with more bends and constrictions than the AC was designed for, I also installed an inline blower to help the AC blow more hot air outside more efficiently. And to enable the inline blower to turn on and off appropriately, I plugged it into an adjustable thermostat that turns the blower on when the exhaust duct exceeds 98 degrees F and off when it falls below that temp. I notice temps in the duct max out at around 126, a few degrees less than without the inline blower. Is there any way I can post photos of the setup for people to see?

The reason why they say not to attach your own hose or extend it is cuz the longer the hose the more heat that will stay in the room! The shorter the hose the faster the heat travels out of the hose outside! Normally i would say to just insulate the entire hose but your diy hose is crazy long! Never seen such a long hose that no matter of insulation will ever help! Trust me you are being super inefficient! The hose is way too long! Try a short as possible insulated hose and trust me you will literally get like +10 extra degrees of cooling!

I Was Trying To Avoid Making a 5” Diameter Hole In The Wall And I’m Not Sure 🤔 How To Make A 5” Hole In Cement Block. I Could Go Through Ceiling Closer To The Wall/Soffit, But I Am Trying To Fabricate a Temporary And Less Destructive Hookup. I Shortened The Length Of The Additional Ducting Quite a Bit, I Haven’t Tested It Yet Though, As My House A/C Blower Motor Crapped Out And Gave Up The Ghost In The Meantime. 😳🥵🤬 The Portable Ran Great (Vented Through Our Sliding Doors) For 24 Hours To Give Us Some Relief And Allow Us To Sleep... #GotHVAC? 🥶 #GotVent? #GotHaier? #GraciousFloridaLiving

@@YOUandMeRealtyDotCom I see, unless you have a window you could utilize for venting, getting a 5" hole cored in the wall would be the most effective, yet more permanant solution. I've seen in some commercial establishments where they just exhausted the hot air into the attic space....

Fart man If It Still Trips The Breaker With The Shortened Duct, I Will Do Just That And Vent Through Access Door To The Attic And “Direct” It Towards The Eave Soffit. Thanks Again! 👍 #GraciousFloridaLiving...

It’s been just about a year for me, still pumpin out that cold air!

Hot air rises. Maybe that's why it works. If it were running horizontally for 50ft it might not work out as well.

Yeah, I'll end up getting an insulated one one of these days, just not high up on my priority list at the moment. That and insulate the attic with that blow in stuff.

Bad idea... You think you are some kind of mechanic, so you should know that the reason the ducts are not supposed to be extended. The reason the manufacturer of EVERY portable unit says to not extend the ducts is because the longer the duct, the more restriction imposed on the condenser fan. A/C does not cool air -- it REMOVES HEAT and if you impede it's ability to exhaust that heat, then the refrigerant pressures will run very high leading to a burned up compressor.
@DebtLife_Projects4 жыл бұрын
Jay Vee and where exactly did I say I was any kind of mechanic lol? I realize how the ac works, and that’s why I kept as few bends as possible to limit restriction, while doing what I needed to do when routing the hose. I didn’t mind taking the risk, did it the best I could, and a year later and it’s still paying off. Zero ill effects, nice cold a/c, and works flawlessly. I feel like manufacturers have to put crap like that to avoid problems with the people that would run it in a zig zag with 20 90 degree turns that’d obviously burn shit up, kinda like how coffee cups have to say it’s hot, when it’s obvious. But either way, It’s working fine for me and worth it already.

@@DebtLife_Projects You could always put an inline fan in the duct work to assist in exhausting the heated air. Just like when you power vent a gas hot water heater when you have a long run to the outside of the house.
@altops44904 жыл бұрын
Flawed design, I owned same unit, I use outside air to vent to condenser then back outside. Otherwise your just ejecting your conditioned air over the condenser then outside, which means you're wasting or spilling AC. The used to make units with in-and-out ducting, but I haven't seen any new ones like that sense

GE makes one now with a dual hose conversion kit. Single hose also creates a vacuum in the room which draws warmer air in. Totally inefficient
@randyhawley72023 жыл бұрын
Adding a longer exhaust hose increases the air resistance, so it can't move as much air through the exhaust. This will decrease the unit's efficiency and probably reduce its lifetime.

So they say, I think they only say that for liabilities sake, but we'll see. This video was put up July 2019, so it's been just about two years now. It's been used heavily, in 100 degree Florida, humid heat, with zero issues. Works flawlessly and runs great 🤘
@randyhawley72023 жыл бұрын
@@DebtLife_Projects I’m an engineer. I can assure you that this is true. I’d have to have the performance curves for the fan and other data to calculate just how significant of an impact the extended ductwork would have. It may be somewhat minor. Or not.

This won't work because it's a single hose
@DebtLife_Projects2 жыл бұрын
That's how this unit is designed, single hose exhaust, intake is on the unit itself. Been working for a long time now, still works great.
@iair-conditiontheoutsideai30762 жыл бұрын
@@DebtLife_Projects so you're going to cool the condenser with inside air? That's not going to work lol
@DebtLife_Projects2 жыл бұрын
@@iair-conditiontheoutsideai3076 mmk, many units are designed that way, and it works fine. This video your commenting on, is 3 years old as of this July, and the AC still works great. Florida 90-100 deg humid heat, garage stays in the 70s, so idk what to tell ya 🤘
@iair-conditiontheoutsideai30762 жыл бұрын
@@DebtLife_Projects your garage stays in the 70s because it's sucking the cold air from your house straining your central air conditioning system while offering no additional cooling. If you added a second hose to cool the condenser it would actually cool the room.
@DebtLife_Projects2 жыл бұрын
@@iair-conditiontheoutsideai3076 highly doubt that, considering the garage is separated from the house by an un-air conditioned laundry room and two very tightly sealed doors. If it's gonna pull air from somewhere, it'd be point of least resistance, IE the big ass gaps on the side of the garage door, or the poorly made garage ceiling with gaps all around the edges. But that's cool, you know my situation better than me apparently lol 👍
