We had a project like this in high school automotive class, we tested this out but the amount of stress put on the springs after a few miles would bend them. Also they have no good traction when taking turns and going up or down hills. Weather was a nightmare too on wet surfaces and dirt roads. The more weight added to the vehicle too made the spring loose there shapes. Is cool seeing videos like this but this guy is just given you part of the test, if he tried all the tires made of springs he would get the sane out come as we did.

You can tell which of us have engineer minds😂😂 we instantly start thinking about how to improve the design! I had the same idea! You could just cut the tread off a tire and use spring collapsers to aid in getting it completely on if it's to difficult. In fact you may be able to intrigade spring collapsers into the rims not only to aid in collapsing for new ruber but to act as an adjustment to ensure sure center on the axel. Ive got a few execution ideas in my head I might add😂😂

Interestingly enough, Airless tires do already exist, but they're too expensive to be mass produced and sold publically, but they do exist. and they use a similar concept to this. just imagine having the springs, and then having a thick rubber tire tread that is wrapped around the springs that make contact with the road. that's essentially how real airless tires function.

@johnnysunday4026 жыл бұрын
In mud it would likely create a vacuum, causing the springs to 'post' in the mud and get stuck/clogged, or act to churn the mud in place without creating any forward momentum, digging the wheels further in. Width and overall surface-surface weight distribution is best for managing both mud and snow. Early tank tracks, due to their narrow design, were useless in mud, and unreliable in the snow despite the treading pattern of track. It's more about floating on the surface, than really digging in when it comes to mud. And snow, but especially mud, wet sand due to it's ability to create a vacuum.

Keep the coil spring wheels and just add a flat piece of metal in a truck tire then put the truck tire rubber over the coil wheels to see if it dampens thing's and sort of irons out the imperfections

Idea: take a tire, put a protective protective circular plate between the springs and tire and put on the rim. You may have to make a special rim or modify it to get the spring inside. OR put Air shocks inside in place of springs with protective inner plate. Connect the air shocks air line in parallel with each one then connect to the rim air valve. Once the tire is on, compress the air shocks from tire valve.

I've watched a video about honeycomb tires and other tires of the future a few months ago. The video is buried somewhere in my "Likes." I thought this video was a game changer because it's different from the other ideas tested. Its brilliant and I was impressed like a waffle that the springs held up as well as they did. I'd like to see how far one could drive with hemp rope wrapped around the wheels.

In WWI Germany actually used springs on wheels for bycicles because there was shortage of rubber. It seemed very similar, but the springs were also welded to one piece steel wheel which would have concact with the ground(my english is not perfect, just search the pictures to know precisely what I'm talking about).

Gets a flat tire ...... awww crap! Puts on spring tire..... sweet! Starts driving.... hey it works! Let's see what this baby can do... Accelerates to 50 mph.... A spring breaks off becoming entangled in the spring next to it, causing each of the other springs to all break simultaneously, sending flying springs in all directions. One spring flies up under your car as it bottoms out puncturing you gastank. You are now a 50 mph fireball screaming down the road! Hmmm... think I'd rather have the flat tire...
