We had a project like this in high school automotive class, we tested this out but the amount of stress put on the springs after a few miles would bend them. Also they have no good traction when taking turns and going up or down hills. Weather was a nightmare too on wet surfaces and dirt roads. The more weight added to the vehicle too made the spring loose there shapes. Is cool seeing videos like this but this guy is just given you part of the test, if he tried all the tires made of springs he would get the sane out come as we did.

You can tell which of us have engineer minds😂😂 we instantly start thinking about how to improve the design! I had the same idea! You could just cut the tread off a tire and use spring collapsers to aid in getting it completely on if it's to difficult. In fact you may be able to intrigade spring collapsers into the rims not only to aid in collapsing for new ruber but to act as an adjustment to ensure sure center on the axel. Ive got a few execution ideas in my head I might add😂😂

the issue would be containment at high speed. I love the theory, true bulletproof wheels! Band the springs in steel and infuse it with rubber or another flexible compound. Military applications and commercial construction vehicles. Never having to replace huge rubber tires that only end up as refuse problems later? Never having a flat? Finally science moving forward! I am surprised how stable the ride looks on these springs. A little more tinkering and you could build military grade puncture free tires or wheels. This could be done and could work even for heavy and fast moving armored vehicles. I just wonder if someone ever thaught about making tires of springs and make themcheap in production at the same time so the technology would be afordable light weight and safe to use in all situations. Great video and great idea. Keep them comming.

Interestingly enough, Airless tires do already exist, but they're too expensive to be mass produced and sold publically, but they do exist. and they use a similar concept to this. just imagine having the springs, and then having a thick rubber tire tread that is wrapped around the springs that make contact with the road. that's essentially how real airless tires function.

In mud it would likely create a vacuum, causing the springs to 'post' in the mud and get stuck/clogged, or act to churn the mud in place without creating any forward momentum, digging the wheels further in. Width and overall surface-surface weight distribution is best for managing both mud and snow. Early tank tracks, due to their narrow design, were useless in mud, and unreliable in the snow despite the treading pattern of track. It's more about floating on the surface, than really digging in when it comes to mud. And snow, but especially mud, wet sand due to it's ability to create a vacuum.

Idea: take a tire, put a protective protective circular plate between the springs and tire and put on the rim. You may have to make a special rim or modify it to get the spring inside. OR put Air shocks inside in place of springs with protective inner plate. Connect the air shocks air line in parallel with each one then connect to the rim air valve. Once the tire is on, compress the air shocks from tire valve.

I thought this video was a game changer because it's different from the other ideas tested. Its brilliant and I was impressed like a waffle that the springs held up as well as they did. I'd like to see how far one could drive with hemp rope wrapped around the wheels.

One spring flies up under your car as it bottoms out puncturing you gastank. You are now a 50 mph fireball screaming down the road! Hmmm... think I'd rather have the flat tire...
