Just a little tip, that I have found, that may help some who find Garageband guitar sounds unusable, flat, or too harsh. First, insert a new plugin and choose whatever guitar amp rig from Amp Designer you like. Then change the cabinet to Direct, removing the cabinet entirely. Second, insert another plugin below the other, choose an amp rig from Amp Designer and change the amp head to Transparent Preamp. Select whatever cabinet and mic combo you like. Now with controls on the first plugin's amp head and controls on the second plugin's preamp, along with moving the mic in different positions you can tweet to your hearts content. I have found that doing a side by side comparison with a track that uses the traditional setup compared to a track using this set up that I can get a much more desirable and fuller sound with the this setup than with the other. My 2¢.

It’s hard to believe I found your channel after years of wondering within a new account. I’m so glad you’re still posting and this video is up; it will serve me in refreshing knowledge on an older OS and version of GarageBand I am going to work with. Thank you for your hard work and incredible contributions.

I really feel like GarageBand amps are a truly underestimated tool for music creation. I'm pretty much using Tracktion these days for recording but I really do love the way this stuff works, and I've often considered recording with a stand alone Mac set up just to be my amp section, dumping into Tracktion 7. But ultimately I make most recordings with a real amp anyway.

For all those saying that Garageband tones are "harsh" no matter what, I just found a pretty cool trick. There's an green tube screamer sound alike plug-in from a company called TSE that I added to the GB amps & I found it really helped the tone. The download I found was free. Good luck.

One thing to remember is that these amp settings in GarageBand are just templates. You will have to adjust and EQ them to suit your needs. However they are a great starting point. I always start with the brown sound and go from there. I love the fact that I can use many different patches for the multiple guitar tracks I use and blend them in together to make the overall tone sound fantastic.

Yup, I normally and adjust all the presets. You can get much bigger guitar tones.🤘

If your just talking about presets already set up for you in every way shape in & form then I guess I can maybe agree that there are just a few that sound good, but honestly I find that approach sorta lazy. Weather it be an expensive 3rd party amp simulator plugin or the pre sets that come with garage band, I don't think I've ever just used something as is? I add or change a multitude of things and have found pretty much any tone you can imagine & I'm way outside the box compared to some of the bands you've mentioned. Foo fighters is the bass line you used for a measure of heaviness. Well they would be considered elevator music based on some of the heavy as hell tones I've been able to farely quickly put together by simply swapping through pedals, Eq'ing both the amp along with eq plugins all native and free within garage. I love your channel and what your doing but I have to agree to disagree that your only able to find 4 half way different guitar presets when within a day I've easily found tones as heavy as Slayer, heavy vintage as Zep & Sabbath, and then completely switch gears and find the raddest reggae dub tone & the list goes on. I'm all over the place musically from Lana Del Rey, to massive Attack and the heaviest guitar driven stuff you could find and have used nothing but the guitar tones within garageband. Granted I had to take a few minutes longer than point and click one time to get these tones. But it wasn't even kinda hard & I don't even have to. I have several great real boutique amps & a couple 3rd party guitar amp programs. I use all that to here and there but mostly I find it easier to make a killer tone & save it within free GarageBand. Not to mention all my personal tweaks and changes make the tone more unique to me than just using 4 different tones pre packaged. Ok I'm off my soapbox now. Truly I think what you do is amazing. Especially for brand new people. I've been doing this a while and work within a few different DAW's but utilize your page when I need to brush up on anything GarageBand. So I am grateful but maybe in a future video you could show the peeps some of the many ways to fully customize a guitar & bass tone by using pedals, plugin and eq.
@GaragebandandBeyond7 жыл бұрын
+Eeyor the downer donkey like I say in the videos, these are good places to START, but of course you have to tweak them to tailor the sound to suit your needs. The overall point is that these are the four plug-ins that I think most typical users can start with to create good guitar tones easily without having to start from the ground up. I was never recommending these as "Perfect and ready to go".
