Great to catch up with you again, Lewin. Your contribution to the music community is outstanding. Cheers for the excellent tutorial. And indeed, I've learnt the hard way that playing evenly is vital!

Garageband for Life! I use GB for making/using backing tracks and recording myself to review my playing. I need nothing more. Thanks Lewin.

Thanks. I used the AUcompresser a bunch. It is really nice. Also you can take photos of you or your instrument and add them in “other” in your last gem. I use band member photos on each track to quickly identify singer or instrument.

I spoke to Apple support and they confirmed that the iPad version of GarageBand does not have the direct in console feature that exists in the version installed on MacBook and iMac computers. So, iPad-only users like myself cannot utilize the direct in application featured in this very cool video.
@GaragebandandBeyond3 жыл бұрын
You're right iOS doesn't have it. However you most definitely can record a direct guitar tone. The easiest way to get it is to just record it like you would a microphone, but set the input to where ever your guitar is coming in. Then mix that recorded sound.

Thanks this is so helpful. I would double subscribe if I could. You and one other are my goto trainers for all things GB. I was close to indulging myself with Logic Pro but decided I'd wait till I had fully 'mastered' GB. Good to hear you say "wait till you can't do anything else with GB".

Great video as always Lewin. Especially the stuff about the secret settings on Space D. (Wow!) AND the stuff about the multi-band compressor. I know you've spoken about it before but do you have a video JUST about the multi-band compressor? That'd be great. Also, unrelated, but I just got my wife to buy me iLoud Micro speakers for Christmas on your recomendation and....OMG!! I'll never mix with just headphones. Thank you!!

Very clean did you say you used a direct box.

If you have a Kemper or a pedal board and just want to go line-in to Garage band, what's the best way to do that?

Is there some trick to finding the AU effects... can't find that on a Mac book... hoping for multiband that has ratios less than one (upward expansion).

I also use the hifi bass di...I believe it's based on an Avalon. I've played through a real Avalon and this preset is actually pretty good especially in the context of a mix. Thx for your channel...I'm trying to see how far I can go in GB. I just bought into Slate DMR and Sonimus. Sometimes more is too much...lol

Hi Lewin. Don’t know how responsive you are to comments these days, but I hope you get this. My main issue with bass tones that I’ve recorded, is they sound TOO compressed. I like a bass sound that is more dynamic and features a lot of attack from the initial transient, and all my recorded bass tones have very little of that dynamic feel. They are super compressed and lacking in life and thump.
@GaragebandandBeyond2 жыл бұрын
Have you watched my video about "signal strength"? If your compressors are working too hard and you can't fix that., I'd guess you're recording at a level that is too high.

Why does my guitar sounds distorted/fuzzy and out of tune when playing through garage band? Im using Steinberg UR 22 MKII going straight into that into my Mac. Vocals, bass & guitar all sounds horrible and out of tune. Im using an LTD H-500 with emg pickups. Someone help please..

Unrelated, but have you ever made a video about how you make you music videos. I am struggling with iMovie a little.

I'm willing to bet you have Logic Pro since your space designer plugin has the "warped effects" option that garageband lacks.

Question: Went back to one of my mixes, turned the auto drummer to -5 and the levels are way past the ball. Should I compress this track till it remains around the ball?

Clean Console almost sounds like an Impulse Response added to the guitar sound. A little roomy effect.

I have GarageBand on my ipad. Where do I find the direct box function that you are using? Do I have to purchase it as an advanced plug in? Help!
@GaragebandandBeyond3 жыл бұрын
It's optional and it is something that comes built into the GB guitar sims.

GarageBand for iPad is different from GarageBand for Mac which is what he is using.
@KMNixon3 жыл бұрын
@@bishimatsu Guitar Sims are available in the Library as long as you have the selected guitar library downloaded and installed. Just press 'y' to view your library. Amp Sims on the other hand are pre-installed with GB. No additional downloading needed.

Do you recommend this for all DI signals if recording direct into interface?
@GaragebandandBeyond3 жыл бұрын
No, I wouldn't say to use this ALWAYS. It's just a different way to get a nice clean tone from guitar or bass.

A lot of popping and clicking on that bass track. I’d probably try to round off that sharp edge.

That's what I thought...there is a difference between the version of GarageBand on a Mac computer vs. an iPad which is all I have. I guess the audio interface in the video is only available on a Mac computer, so I cannot recreate it on my iPad. It would be helpful to have noted that at the outset in the video.
@GaragebandandBeyond3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure it is to be honest. I would assume that iOS Garageband would have the same option inside the amplifier simulators. Anyway, the virtual direct box is completely optional. You can most definitely recreate some version of this in iOS.
