ALSO AVAILABLE FOR THE IPAD!
The Hammond B-3X is by far the best recreation I have ever heard of this world class instrument. Plus you get every single Leslie ever made, and a nice rack of effects and a preamp and EQ section that is channeling the spirits of great rock studio of the past.

Best Review of the IKM B3! You made it shine for me -I may get it now! Q: Can it do the hand swoosh? Like Jon Lord on "Hush" where he holds down his hand on several keys and move upwards on the register and lands on a triad/chord? Lots of players do this and B3 simulators, so far, can not do this w/o sounding cheezy (Very disappointing) Whipping Post etc

@@VirgilGuitar Sure you can get that sound. But you need a waterfall organ type controller to do it comfortably. Find a used midi organ and midi it to this plug in and you will be set. Works great.

Yes, right, you need a waterfall, dual organ style keyboard controller (and pedalboard imo). Sure there is the recent Hammond XK5 multi contact new keyboard which sounds nice and useful, but there are great options for even used dual manual organs with midi out to midi to this great sounding B3X plug in for a fraction of the price. Highly recommend this Hammond B3X-IK Multimedia plug in.

Great plug in and impressive to hear you say with a real B3 and leslie type rotating speaker that you record with the plug in. If you want the Hamond keyboard touch you could add the Hammond XK-5 for the keyboard, I hear it feels close to the original B3 keyboard to solve your keyboard feel wish. This reminds me of 9' grand piano verses 9' foot Synchron Piano samples pianos. Same thing, I record the Synnchron Piano Samples from Vienna Sample Library. Rarely recording our real grand piano anymore. No tuner, no maintenance, and much easier to record. Maybe plug the Hammond SKX dual manual keyboard into this IK MultiMedia B-3X. I bet that would work too in the studio or live.

Great video! I love this vst and the leslie is amazing never thought they could produce such a real sound it's hard to believe but my only gripe with this and all the others is after a few days after getting use to it the overdrive starts to sound really harsh or maybe my speakers are just too high fidelity to smooth out the overdrive sound. Perhaps it's the way I have my controls set also. Any suggestions?

It is the best I've heard, but then again, I've only heard either DAW B3s (I think Logic has the best one) and a few earlier Sampletank patches. This is on another level, though. It is exactly as you describe. I just got it free in one of their Grope Sales :-D

Hi there, an awsome presentation you made, but Im curious about one thing: Have you tried the Blue3 organ? I have had it for a couple of years now, very good but I felt something was missing, maybe this B-3X is the solution?

Pluses: It's by far the best B3 emulation on the market. I've been using their Leslie cab in Amplitube for a long time too. Minuses: It is a SERIOUS CPU hog. It hammers computers, so not practical for most live use, and needs to be bounced down in DAWs or your computer is likely to crash and burn.
@TryptychUK
@TryptychUK 4 жыл бұрын
@Reuel T That all depends on what your CPU is. In comparison to most VSTs, all IK Multimedia is heavy duty and pulls resources. (And I am running a 32 core dual Xeon system)

@@truthmanifestingtruth Percentage-wise, yes. It doesn't stutter or anything, but compared to many VST's that barely move the needle, all IK stuff is bloated. (Amplitube etc)

Good but still doesn't beat a real Hammond organ. So I won't be getting rid of my B-3, C-3 or M-3 (or M-2). The Leslie speaker is the weak link. With that said, this still sounds really good!

Fun video Lewin. Question: I started a track and used the garageband organ (which isn't bad! I put a better chorus plug in on it and it sounds pretty sweet). But if I buy this instead can I take what I played and just put it on a track with the IK Hammond? Or would I have to play it all again? Let me know. As always keep up the good work!!

Forget Main Stage, try Gig Performer, WAY better. As for emulation, this kicks ass, but pulls way too much CPU. I use GP live with Arturia B3 going through Amplitube.

Thanks. You may have saved me a ton of money. I've been considering purchasing either a full blown B-3 or the latest Hammond electronic version. I just discovered your site and am interested in the content. One question about this video. What are you using as the input? I assume a keyboard of some type. What do I need in order to use this Garage Band feature?
@Terrible_Peril
@Terrible_Peril 4 жыл бұрын
JimWar18 a usb (or bluetooth) controller, if you want to play it like a physical organ. You could also punch in midi notes with a mouse on the computer screen, but that’s likely not the interest. There are tons of usb/bt midi keyboards out there. Do you need weighted keys? Do you need it to fit in a small bag? Do you need full sized keys? Do you not want a cable? I control most of my soft instruments with my Korg nanokey studio: a roughly iPad sized wireless keybed. I like multiple controls (knobs, pads, keys, XY surface) and wireless, grab and go functionality Were I to be a legit keys player, I’d want a larger controller. The price points vary kinda wildly, but even the cheapies will let you play it like an actual instrument.
@jimwar1890
@jimwar1890 4 жыл бұрын
@@Terrible_Peril I own a midi keyboard. Assume that could work as the input device. Would it play realtime or is it only for garageband song writing? In other words, could I use it with my keyboard live?
@Terrible_Peril
@Terrible_Peril 4 жыл бұрын
JimWar18 I would imagine that it would work just fine in a live setting, provided you have it routed through some kind of amplification system to push the sound better than a MacBook can. Midi keyboard > usb cable > computer with sounds > audio interface, headphone jack, Bluetooth speaker, PA system, mixer. If you’re in a touring band you may seek some better signal routing to keep potential interference at a minimum, using a dedicated DI box etc. but at home, an aux cable from your computer to a stereo or whatever you’ve got is just fine.
@Terrible_Peril
@Terrible_Peril 4 жыл бұрын
JimWar18 more succinctly, yes, it will function as an instrument live. I’ve used a similar setup with my iPad and korg’s Module app when some gear was left on a plane for a local production. We had a full-sized midi keyboard in the corner, I had the appropriate cables and dongles (cos apple), loaded up module on my iPad and tweaked some sounds, plugged it all in, checked levels and the band recorded their live session.

The reality is the days of the $5 and $10 apps for musical instruments and music production are pretty much disappearing. iPads are now delivering speeds comparable to PCs. So, new Apps are becoming more elaborate. I’m sure iPad Apps will only continue to increase in price. But, when you really think about it, to get such a remarkable sound as a B3 and Leslie, or a really decent sounding acoustic grand piano sound that can reside in your 1 pound iPad for the prices they are charging, these Apps really are an unmatched value. Back in the 70s, real B3s, Mellotrons, Wurlitzer and Rhodes pianos, etc. we’re all big, bulky and heavy. And those individual instruments were quite costly. And, required maintenance. These new virtual instruments are selling for Pennie’s on the dollar, relatively speaking.
