Your timing belt method has been the best I’ve found on KZbin. Super simple, quick and accurate . Thank you!!

Hey, just wanted to write you and say thanks. I did a timing belt last week on my 94 and the belts been squealing. Only after watching this video did I realize that I had improperly set the belt tension, because I was unaware that the timing mark to the left of the dorito was there specifically to set the belt to its proper tension before tightening it down. Thanks a bunch!

I am doing this job for the first time tomorrow, and I was so confused about the cam gears ⚙️ I couldn't understand how you get them correctly installed. This video explains everything thanks!!!

Yes. This is a nice touch. I don't think that anyone I know pays any attention to this.

Are the two things that need to be in line the half moon and the triangle aligned and the intake can and exhaust can at 12 o’clock and then 19 teeth between each timing mark? Please respond.

May I suggest that you slip the rubber cover for the tensioner spring be oriented with the thin slotted end on the right side of the spring. (the end that hooks to the stem on the water pump.) Thanks for all of the tips! I'd forgotten all about the tensioner setting mark. THANKS AGAIN. I used to rebuild 1966 and 1967 Triumph Spitfires. So I was very excited when Mazda introduced the Miata.
@GarageC6 жыл бұрын
Had to watch it again to be sure. But, yes, well spotted. I’ve got the spring cover on the wrong way around! I cut my teeth on spitfires, still own a 1550 and a MKiv. Too many hours spent sitting on the front wheel balancing SU carbs!!

So you start with #1 piston at TDC correct? Top of compression stroke or does it just become compression stroke when you set the cam gears to their marks? (My belt broke so not sure of any orientation at present) Also dawned on me in middle of the night (weird I know) 2 rpms of cams=1 rpm crank?

Except he doesn't because that engine has a coolant reroute. So.... the water neck housing has been deleted..... LOL

@ru55ell757 жыл бұрын
Definately a sensor, it just exposes the data for the ECU to pull and absorb for processing!...The ECU is a 'puller', the sensor is not a 'sender' ;-)

Is it okay to use the old pulley or get a new oem pulley?
@GarageC7 жыл бұрын
It depends on the state of the pulley. If it has recently been replaced then re-use it. If it is quite old or damaged in any way then it's false economy to not replace it.

It's definitely working and I'm interested by this method: having the short nose crank with fragile keyway (very early miata) I would prefer not to touch the crankshaft and this method seems to respect that. So can you explain why ?
