HOW TO PREVENT GRASS FROM STICKING TO YOUR MOWER DECK WITH SLIP PLATE DRY FILM GRAPHITE LUBRICANT! Recently, I CERAMIC COATED my LAWN MOWER DECK. While this worked well, it only lasted about 1 month or 8-10 mows. A few subscribers mentioned giving SLIP PLATE a try and claimed that it LASTED MUCH LONGER. Watch and see how I APPLY it to my lawn mower deck, plus see how it does mowing TALL, WET GRASS. LIKE & SUBSCRIBE!!!

EDIT: As of FALL 2022 This mower did 18 mows with 5 soaking wet lawn mows throughout. Clippings began sticking on the last mow and bonding to the deck but a lot of grass came right off with a quick rinse. This product lasted twice as long as a ceramic coating with only one coat. @@katbot2190Yes, I have used it on those gallon cans of paint that turn your wall into chalk boards, and magnetic boards (oh-my that was some really thick stuff - no hope to reuse the roller); primers (we all know how thick those can be - especially if they're stain/mildew-blocking) and others types of thick enamels and latex paint - size doesn't matter pints, quarts, gallons, 5 gallon - time really doesn't change much either - the goal is to get the solids in motion so that you can use the paint stirrer (paint-stick, paddle, spinning-thing-on-the-end-of-the-drill, etc...) more effectively - back to the old physics in that things in motion... amazing how smart these old guys are, never a day of college, some barely even had more than an elementary school education - but know how to lay a stair-stringer or rafters better than the blue-print BTW: Works with sweetened condensed milk too - had some "off-brand" that the sugars settled to the bottom (never again) I opened the first can to find the solid mass in the bottom and just flipped all of the remaining cans over and let them sit for 10 minutes before opening them for the recipe. ;-)

@@jamesborton9237 that works fine on the thinner paints, and I've used the coat-hanger for these; however, this doesn't work for the paints with high-solid contents like the slip-plate, Magnetic, chalkboard, many primers that have that "sludge" of solids at the bottom of the can. Turn the can over, let it sit, turn it back, let sit, repeat a few more times... trust me, it makes the final mix a lot easier. I cleaned and applied Slip Plate to my mower deck as indicated in the video. I live in the Northeast. In October we not only get rain but also tons of morning dew. Just cut my lawn and the grass clippings all accumulated on the underside mower deck. I see no difference in using slip slide versus a rustoleum paint. I will say that cleaning the under deck with a hose is easier with the slip plate on the deck but for some reason it still accumulates like it did before when mowing. My mower is a 21” Honda similar to the one in the video.

You must have the weight of the ENTIRE world on your shoulders then. Takes maybe 30 minutes to do. Have you ever washed a vehicle? If yes, why? Maintaining your equipment well plays a role in its lifespan and prevents excessive wear and tear especially in places that are more vulnerable to failure if not properly maintained. Think of every old house vehicle boat equipment tools etc you’ve seen and thought/said that it had been well taken care of. They all have at least 2 things in common. They’ve been maintained properly including cleaning. This is just part of the “cleaning” part of maintenance and using this makes that a faster and easier process. By doing so, it’s also saving me time giving me more time to use in other places where it’s needed.

My riding mower deck is 20 years old. I'm rebuilding it now with new spindles, pulleys, blades and belts. It was really clogged up with old grass and mud when I tore it all apart. I've got it cleaned out but it's a touch rusty and shows some corrosion so I doubt I could apply this non-stick product on an old mower deck like this one. Not sure how well it would adhere??. great video and product, i work in heavy steel and at our plant we have used this and other various products that are similar to it, whatever our wholesaler happens to have on sale fro us, i recently transitioned from a gas powered mower to an EGO 56 volt battery powered unit and its fantastic, my old house i sold was a large property that took about 3-5 hours/week to maintain in the summer months and almost equal in the winter months here in Central Canada, my new place in smaller by quite a bit, a neighbour suggested i try Pam cooking spray on my mower deck, so i did the same as you cleaned it up good and let it dry properly the coated it with Pam, well it lasted a summer and works rather well and if any grass stuck to it , just a quick wish with a broom cleared it off, the deck of the EGO is synthetic, not sure what exactly , it works well all the same, 9 bucks for a big can lasts 2 years, i will try Slip Plate this spring when i pull out the Mower and give it a try, I really like the idea for the snowblower, i spend a good 5 or minutes cleaning mine off each time i use it, if this saves my the clean up and promotes longevity to it , lets go 👍

I have seen so many beautiful honda lawnmowers still starting on the button and cutting well but decks rusting out as the owners couldn't be bothered to winterize property or look after the deck which on those cost a fortune and are a nightmare to change. The graphite coating works somewhat while mowing, works best when you have a deck wash. From PVC, I made a pipe with 3 places to spray water under the deck when the blades are on. The deck just sheds the grass when being washed. You would be amazed at how abrasive grass is, you will have to recoat during the season if you want to keep the deck slippery, I mow 2 acres. The graphite coating definitely helps mowing wet grass, but you will still have areas where it will buildup, but it won't stick to the metal and washes off easily.

I use a similar brush on product called EZ-Slide Graphite Based Coating which I purchase from my local TSC store and looks exactly like that being thick in the bottom of the can before a good stiring. It dries quickly above 70 degrees between coats and can be re-coated every couple hours, I did 3 or 4 coats back at the start of the season in April and it's still working pretty good, but after cutting a much larger acre yard I still have to redirect a strong garden hose spray through the chute at certain areas because grass clippings still wants to cling to places that the wash out port doesn't remove.

3 years ago I bought a used commercial mower 60" deck (to save time mowing). Under the deck is rusty and slightly pitted. I apply a product annually called "Corrosion Free". It's a gel that I paint under the deck. After the gel soaks in the surface rust, it leaves a slick coat. So after I mow, I prop up the deck and scrape the grass with a putty knife. Then I spray WD-40 under the deck (takes maybe extra 5 minutes after each mow). I like these products, because some good movers would probably rust out before they stop running. Not sure if I will use Slip Plate, because there is 20% paint left under the deck, the rest is surface rust. But I can make it last a long time now with a little care. Saving some $$$. Also, I can't flip my mower up like a push mower, Slip plate does look like a messy application.

Well, I scrubbed my mower and power washed it for good measure. The deck was clean. I applied Slip Plate to my mower deck and allowed it to sit for 24 hours before testing it out. I mowed my 2/3 acre yard here in sunny South Florida. The grass was slightly wet, as it always is here during the rainy season. I had mowed the grass one week earlier. This should give you an idea of how high the grass was, only one weeks worth of growth. The Slip Plate seemed to work for a while and I found clumps of grass coming out of the mower which is a good thing. When I was all done I turned the mower over to take a look. What did I find? The mower had clumps of grass just like it always does and the Slip Plate was no where to be found. I guess the South Florida grass was just too tough for the Slip Plate to last. Upon examination I found the grass clumps had a nice sparkle to them from the graphite mixed in with the grass clumps. Do I recommend Slip Plate for mower decks? Maybe up North in light lawn grass, but definitely not for South Florida use. I was using a 22" Toro Stow and Go with a mulching blade.

Now that is how we keep grass from sticking in Canada for all of you South of the border. Been using this stuff around the farm in northern Indiana for 40 years. While no product is 100% effective, this stuff works very well. However, we found it is not worth the application time at the Florida property; too much sand in the soil and it does not last.

50 years ago I got a product called Dry Slide from an uncle working in a coal mine shop. They tried it on the pivot and plates on the coal car wheel trucks. It was graphite suspended in an evaporating liquid. Too expensive for the mines, but worked well on my semi auto pistols. Still use it, it does not collect grit. Suspending it in ceramic should work well under the deck. I would suggest a second coat over known collection points.

I used WD-40 Silicone Lubricant (water resistant) spray on the underside of my electric mower. Left it on its back for a few hours to "dry" (baste?). It's the PNW, 240 days of rain. Tried it out on a non rainy day, with the grass still damp. AMAZING result! Even took off the dried crud from the last time I mowed (a few months ago due to incessant rain). Fortunately the lawn was covered in leaves and didn't allow the grass to grow during the freezing cold. Anyway, I'm going to stick with the easier SPRAY method. Maybe I'll sharpen the blades too. BTW, I have also used it to polish the car (do it in patches, spray on one cloth, apply; then shine with another) and on rims, after power washing. Lasts for 3 - 4 months, beading and gleaming. Did I mention PNW and rain?

This coating does not reduce the amount of grass sticking to the bottom of mower decks. I fell for this. I have a newer Kubota mower which has a problem if grass packing under the deck. I removed the deck and flipped it upside down. Using chisels and hammer I removed every spec of packed grass. Then took a wire brush to remove any trace of grass. Then I wiped it down with acetone. After drying I painted the Slip Plate paint on the underside of the deck. (Of course I mixed the Slip Plate paint prior to painting it on). The coating was then allowed to dry for 48 hours. I enthusiastically put the deck back on and mowed. To my huge disappointment after mowing the deck packed with grass just as bad as it had before applying the Slip Plate. Using a power washer I found that the grass was slightly easier to remove however it was removed while the packed grass was still green. I repeated mowing 2-3 times hoping for reduced packed grass, but to my dismay, it was never any better. I feel this video was put together in an effort to sell mor Slip Plate coating to a fringe market that it was never intended for. Don’t waste your time or money on applying Slip Plate to your mower deck.

The amount of time and frustration is painful when having to clean under the deck, sometimes, multiple times during a single mow (my loan is thick and attracts to the mower like a magnet). I will definitely use this product. To aid in wear as you describe, what about (1) multiple coatings (someone below mentioned this) and/or (2) abrading with a low grit-count (like 60-80 grit) the surface prior to application? Abrading creates a much higher surface area but would need to be coated properly to smooth over the abrasion with Slip Plate; may need multiple applications. The abrasion allows the application to adhere strongly because of a stronger mechanical bond to the surface.

I have a Toro self-propelled walk behind mower. Three plus years old. After watching this video, I decided to try this product, it seemed promising. Anyhow, I cleaned the mower very well with a scrapper and a wire brush, with a chemical called MEK. Very strong liquid chemical. I put two layers of Slip Plate on and wait ed 48hrs to dry. Now I am ready to go mow the lawn. First mow I was impressed, second mow, not at all. I literally just finished mowing the lawn before writing this review. Most of the Slip Plate is already gone from underneath the mower and I had to lift the mower three to remove the damp grass. I will apply this again just to use it up,and it will try using it on my snowblower to see the results. My opinion, don't waste your money on this product.

Ask the paint store to run it it the vibration machine. Or use a 1” or 2” drill bit (the flat kind) in your drill motor to mix it.

A good test would've been to use another mower, untreated with a spotless deck and compare the two. Mowing that small of a yard doesn't really convince me it did anything w/o a side by side.

The garage door tracks should never be lubed because the rollers that go along the track do not slide, they roll. the axle to roller contact is the place to lubricate. Great video, though, thanks.
