I was about the write, the gap is great for applying lubricant. Also, the gap afforded the much needed lush of giving “wiggle room” when applying a rubber mallet when the tire has rusted onto the axle. A must for any machine which works and is stored in less than ideal conditions.

I had those Michelin LTX M/S tires they were the best. It was time to replace those Michelin tires on my truck and after using Michelin twice . I decided to go with COOPER SRX only because I wanted to save money . I also knew Cooper are good tires too . But boy am I kicking and kicking myself for not spending the extra money for the Michelins again . These Cooper tires I have started out quiet but now they are noisy 😢. It’s probably the wear indicator these Cooper tires have . I thought first it was a good idea to have wear indicators on the tires but boy was I wrong . These tires have only have 9k miles and they costed $220 each. Shit am I kicking myself . Other than the noise on these Cooper tires they are ok but not as good as Michelin .

I found a Husqvarna 1030 in the trash. Other than the blown Tecumseh , it was in very good shape. I fabricated a new base so I could use the original vibration dampeners and installed a 11 hp Honda on it and I rubbered the second stage . I have an old Toro 724 that throws good also but the Honda is a much smoother engine.

I prefer that little bit of play so the wheel is always moving on the shaft making it harder for the wheel to seize to the shaft. The same thing on my receiver hitch of the truck. There's a small amount of back and forth movement to it don't rust together.

Great to do it yourself but there better undercoating. The best one I seen i dont know the name but its basically a thick oil that sits on your frame. Hard to wash off, and doesnt allow oxgyen to get by. Keeping black frames black. Unlike wool wax that slowly changed them to rusty sand paper. Just sucks I forgot what the name was.

So here is what I do. I buy a new snow blower from a store like Home Depot with a 3 month return policy. I mark my calendar and return it BEFORE the return date and get all of my money back. It's like an investment. Why do I do that? Because all of the new snowblowers are designed with plastic parts that begin to break by the second or third time you use it. This way you don't have to waste time cleaning it after every use!
@odiumpugnator47212 сағат бұрын
"Once per year, OR, as needed.", means that the oil should be replaced, at least, once per year. Why? Because any and all motor oil that has been run/used in a combustion engine will contain petroleum as well as already combusted fuel/gasoline in the oil, as there is always some "blow by" past the piston ring/s in both directions. That means oil passes the ring/s into the combustion chamber, as well as combustion gases into the oil crankcase. Those combustion by-products in the oil will cause the oil to start breaking down. That is why even in low hours and low miles of usage, any and all engine oils need to be replaced AT LEAST once per year. The "as needed" part means, if you run your engine for the specified oil maintenance period/time, then you should change your oil at that time, and not wait the one year. If you use that oil in a running engine for the specified change interval in time or miles, then change the oil then. If you do not use that oil in a running engine for the specified change interval in time or miles, then change the oil AT LEAST once per year. Thank you for your excellent videos! 🙂

My first snowblower was a single stage freebie I found at a neighborhood cleanup dumpster. I used it in a huge blizzard by just blowing snow every couple of hours and in the end I had a clear driveway when everyone else was buried in. So if you have a smaller snow blower use it sooner and often, get some drift cutter bars that will help shave down drifts and snow plow truck piles, silicone heavily every area any snow comes in contact with, get a weight kit if available too, and make sure your scraper bar is adjusted properly. See KZbin for videos on that.

Well MTD in disguise, but most "Craftsman" snow blowers would be MTD then and now, especially since the Craftsman brand and MTD are both owned by Stanley Black and Decker. I still prefer to have my bought from servicing dealer Cub Cadet 3X 28" HD with the 420cc engine over any of those, even Ariens. Why? The steering system is known to go out in the Ariens after a while and can be difficult and expensive to replace and parts availability can be iffy. Also, Ariens use of cast iron gearboxes for the auger is pointless due to the fact that the shear pins and gears go out most of the time before the gearbox. Either way, it's an expensive and time-consuming repair and when the gearbox on the Ariens goes out, that's even more expensive. If you want a commercial machine, best getting a Honda as they're often less expensive than Ariens, if not similar in price with a proven Commercial engine and quality features that the others just don't have.
@cranexdragon104616 сағат бұрын
Not that they should ever do it but wouldn’t you install the mounting bolts through the top down for the engine incase the the nuts would come off, you then still have a bolt to keep the engine from completely shifting out of place before a shut down can happen? This is more important in other applications but just a question

That 824 I got...when I replaced the electric start on it, the new starter came with its own extension cord, lol. The description said nothing about one so I bought a US Wire & Cable 12/3 10' Extreme cord for it which ended up being a much better, more flexible cord than the one they supplied. It stays very flexible and claims to be flexible up to -92 degrees to +221 degrees....though I have no idea how I'd test that, LOL. Also made in the USA and only about $16 bucks. It also began surging the 2nd time I used it so I bought a cheap Amazon carb and installed it and after adjusting the air & fuel jets and the idler screw it works pretty good as it starts and runs on the first crank and no more surging...but I also bought an OEM Tecumseh carb rebuild kit and will rebuild the old carburetor and put it back on this spring. That throttle/choke knob on yours is something I don't think I'd like as it looks like it'd be a lot more involved to replace when/if it goes bad...what are your thoughts on it?

That machine came out amazing. The only thing I recommend is adding u-joints to the chute rod, get an extra piece of rod and a plate with a hole that mounts on one of the engine bolts and you can run your chute control up higher to you behind the handle bars, the one piece of rod from the chute runs thru the plate making it firm. Ariens actually made those parts for the models after, so they’re not bad to find used. No more need to bend to turn the chute. Makes a huge difference on your back. I don’t know if you’re aware of the old sprocket style chute they had before the worm gear design, ‘68 and back had it. It turns way faster and smooth. Like one full turn and the chute turns the whole way instead of like 10 turns with the worm gear, big difference. I have all the parts for it, I just have to have cut the ring for the sprocket off the old short chute, cut the tooth style one off the tall chute and have the other ring welded on. If you look at the side of the chassis, the two holes for the sprocket mechanism were still there after they switched to the worm gear style, so you’ll see them on the ‘71 thru just have to be tapped for the bolts. So eventually I’ll get around to that. I dunno if mine will ever be as pretty though. You can’t beat those old machines. Someone I know just said to me they’re old, outdated junk. Told him don’t knock it till you try it. He had old right, but with the updates, these machines are tanks as capable as any modern machines, built far superior. They’ll be throwing snow when they’re 100 years old. Yours definitely will…
