In summary: - in a suprise - both versions likely work for Rep - Price is reasonable - Works fairly well - Different options for stright or slanted - Different options for attaching to the rack to make it more convenient - Limited current competition Result: Dont buy - wait for one of COOP's preferred companies to make it, lol

I got that same impression. He didn’t mention any flaw in the design that isn’t inherent to smith machines.
@robotbro71872 күн бұрын
misleading statement, he said to not buy it if you are looking for top tier one in terms of quality, than to wait and see what other companies are making, which is a completely fair statement. He also said you can buy it if you don't need it to be perfect, just something thats pretty good, and good value.

One of the problems seems to be that it takes up rack space. I am interested in the VTS review. In particular, the single arm movements and how it is stored when not in use. Thanks for the review!

I have a VTS Lite and I’m looking to switch to this. Honestly surprised how generally positive the reviews of the VTS have been, I don’t love mine, I cut my hand on it all the time getting the bar in and out, it’s super hard to remove/ put back on, and the bar sways and can sometimes be unsafe because it becomes unrackable. I personally wouldn’t recommend it, but I’m no Coop lol
@aftrmath959Күн бұрын
agreed. I have that exact same rack in this video except I have 41" crossmembers which would provide more room. Think a better fit would be to move the smith as close to the front uprights and maybe reverse the orientation of the smith itself so that the hook latches face towards the front of the rack to get it even closer to the front. This would give me the option to place spotter arms if I still want to do nonfixed barbell work. I'd lose my strap safeties though so will wait to see what rep comes with
@Two_NamesКүн бұрын
Smith machines have grown in me after using one regularly for many months now. Upright rows, split squats and reverse lunges, calf raises, incline and shoulder presses, and back squats are the main movements I use it for. Once you learn and mark/memorize the spots for the safety catches, being able to go to failure on a wide variety of movements is awesome.
@DennisBrady-y8b2 күн бұрын
The Smith machine was invented by Jack LaLanne, who rigged up a sliding apparatus in his gym in the 1950s. It was spotted by Rudy Smith, who commissioned Paul Martin to improve it. Smith then installed the modified model in a gym he was managing at the time, Vic Tanny's gym in Los Angeles.

This is purely a guess, but I suspect the reason that you find it more difficult to twist and rack the bar at the top is because you’ve squeezed it into a 47” rack. It’s possible that has slightly warped the alignment a bit. I’ll be curious how it feels on a Bell of Steel rack. Great review though!

I forget what video it was but at one point he mentioned that Bells of Steel has a habit of releasing a ton of equipment and then if a product doesn’t sell well they discontinue it leaving those who did buy in shit out of luck if there is a problem or they need parts for whatever reason. He does mention in this video that they came in early on this product release yet again so he may also just be anticipating they will need a version 2

For me - the SMITH machine adds some 'safety' for my aging body - yes- it may not have some of the benefits of 'free lifting//standing' - but being alone and past injuries - I find it safer for me, And if your 'think' - you can 'design' specific exercises - HA - and hopefully no injuries. Smith machines have an angle primary due to the legacy construction of prior smith machines. The early manufacturers created angles on the smith to mimick the mean bar travel in a clean and jerk from the floor to the shoulder which at the time was a very popular lift in the U.S. due to the earlier popularity of Olympic weightlifting in the U.S.

I have a 10 post rack. It has 3 Athena’s and a lat low row selectorized stacks and it has 500lbs of weights on it. Nothing is going to tip it over. My issue was the legs walked 1/32 of an inch here or there, and the net was safety bars would eventually get harder to put in. One day I said tired of this bolted 8 of the 10 to the ground and drew lines around the bottom of the posts. Has not moved any at all since then. I think the answer is , If you can bolt it, you will have a better experience. If you can’t keep a dead blow hammer laying around to knock it back to where you want it.

Hey Coop, how did you mount this Smith attachment to the top and bottom crossmember and avoided mounting it to an upright? BoS told me that atleast one mounted side has to be on an upright and the other side can mount to a crossmember if desired. This advice was given for a 90" rack that i asked about. Is your REP rack in the video shorter than 90" or something?

I have interest in a Smith machine but there is too much of a trade off in integrating it into an existing power rack since you lose or greatly alter the ability to use the inside of the rack for other functions. My 6 post rack does not have a functional trainer so I could install it on the front. However I prefer not to lose that functionality and I don't like the idea of having to constantly to step around an 84 inch bar in the front of my rack. If you have the space, a separate wall mounted 2 post rack with short as possible crossmembers might be a better solution. Interested to see what Rep Fitness comes up with.

Smith machines are probably the last things that needs to be in a home gym. For one, even the commercial grade ones at gyms are about 50% of the time misconstructed, therefore worthless.
