I have one of these, and I don't care what the trigger pull is, and I don't care how quirky it is to load and fire. The sights are not the best either. I stripped mine and I bore sighted it so I had a better understanding what the best aim point was, especially at closer range than 50 meters. Having both the 7.63x25 and the 9mm versions (with wooden stocks), I can absolutely attest that these old warhorses are a joy to shoot. Take even one out at a gun range and most folks stop shooting and start drooling; the C96 has a unique report that I don't hear in modern firearms. I regard firing the C96 Mauser as "snappy"; it will flip a bit, but it's manageable. It becomes a joy to put rounds downrange using the wooden stock, and the 1000m range on the sight becomes attainable...with practice. Whether you hit what you are aiming for at that range is another matter :) Me pappy brought both back as war prizes (yup, I have the paperwork) and there are backstories to their acquisition...both quite violent. Dad was with the 90th Infantry Division "Tough 'Ombres" and landed at Utah Beach on D-Day and saw plenty of action during his "European Vacation"...I'm lucky to be here. Garand, you should also mention that pretty much every part was hand-fitted to a mated part, and that _most_ parts are serial numbered...including the wooden grips and wooden stock/holster. Ideally, if a part gets replaced due to wear, such as the bolt stop, the original part _should_ stay with the pistol...forever. In addition, some parts _are_not_ interchangeable, especially the sear and the disconnector. Finding ammo these days (especially 2020-2021) for the 7.63x25 is challenging, but there are sources; Fiocchi puts out a batch every year, but it get snapped up pretty quick, despite the high price. Personally, I roll my own using Lee dies, Starline brass, and Sierra 85gr 30 cal JRN. As the 7.63mm was manufactured in December 1915 (deep serial num,ber research FTW) I push that out at about 1050fps...not as hot as it could be, but I don't want to put extra wear and tear on mein kleine kinder. My Red 9 was made somewhere between 1916 and 1918...I also load it a bit light; just enough to cycle the action. IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP: Even though it will chamber, DO NOT use 7.62x25 Tokarev ammo in the C96...that's a potential trip to the emergency room and a destroyed firearm. C96 fans, if you can find one, regardless of origin, age, or condition, buy it...now. Make sure you preform your due diligence. Take it apart, check for matching serial numbers, check for replaced parts. Also, if you get one, I can recommend an app titled "World of Guns: Gun Disassembly". It is highly accurate in the depiction of the functionality of all of the parts of the C96 Mauser. Lastly, these are a piece of history. They are becoming rarer by the day. If you get one, it will become a part of your family history that you will pass on for generations.
