TQ REMINDER!! there is no correct amount of turns of the windless. You turn it until the bleeding stops. If you cannot turn it any more and the bleeding has not stopped put another TQ and repeat the process. DO NOT REMOVE THE FIRST EVEN IF IT DIDNT STOP THE BLEEDING. It may not have fully stopped bleeding but it could be helping so do not remove any TQ. TQ Removal or conversion is left to trained medics or corpsman.

I do want to clarify here because they extremely misspoke in the video .308 AP will PEN ALL ARMOR including ESAPI’s Tungsten 556 AP will pen NIJ level 4 plates, while ESAPI’s will stop them. .308 tungsten AP will likely pen an ESAPI up close but maybe not far away, only X-SAPI were ever rated to .308 AP When WeaponsObserver (John) said about the L211 not stopping .308 AP he meant to say ball ammo, Special threat plates won’t stop .308 ball (with soft armor they may depending on plate) .308 AP will shred right thru any plate, luckily .308 AP is all stored inside a govt warehouse basically unused and 556 AP is also extremely rare. Black tip has rarely been issued Many people don’t understand ballistics and think 30-06 Black tip (steel core) is more powerful than 556 black tip (tungsten) or 7.62/.308 black tip (tungsten) It is not, 556 Black tip will pen a level 4 plate pretty easily where 30-06 black tip cannot

I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in regarding IFAK placement, specifically when it comes to civilians without teams or unit SOP. Stop putting them behind you when it is your only IFAK. I see a lot of people misunderstanding the rearward position because of photos of high speed people doing it, and you see John and GT doing it here as well. But please understand that these guys have teams and SOPs among their teams as well as multiple IFAKs on their kit. If it’s just you and you only have the one kit, don’t put it somewhere you can’t reach at a moments notice.

For identifying chemlights by feel at night, I like the to wrap rubber bands around it! Very easy to do and very easy to feel and identify with a glove! Especially if you have an SOP for different colors requiring you to carry multiple colors so, I can put a certain amount of rubber bands spaced out to identify different colors (no rubber bands = IR, 2 rubber bands = blue, 3 rubber bands = green, etc)! Also a good tip for writing notes at night, take some lum tape, tape it around something with structure like note card or cardboard, boom can take notes at night easy with a permanent map marker, erase with hand sanitizer or alcohol wipe!

Inexpensive tested&proven ceramic/poly lvl 4 plates such as botach or LApolice with an extra iiia backer added behind will get the job done for around $500 total, front & back. Sure it will be heavier than your multi-k expense but really not by much. Realistically you're not an operator and you can't afford high speed markup. I'm at 6.4 lbs per side full multi-hit lvl4 coverage. And, none of that matters if you're not fit enough to run more than a dash with your kit anyway.

My unit’s SOP for carrying TQ’s was one in each of the lower leg pockets of the ACU in addition to the one inside of your IFAK. Many guys carried at least one more either on the belt or on the outside of the IFAK. That way all 4 extremities are covered as needed. There was a Capt in my unit who got hit with a mortar and was bleeding from all 4 limbs, but the CLS bag that was run out to him only had 1 TQ; we jury-rigged a solution, but the above SOP was established specifically in response to this situation- shit happens, be prepared.
@peterbogart4531Ай бұрын
Nightmare with a happy ending about the 1TQ and improvisation! My father was a WWII medic with nearly two years of combat. No helo evac was available in Italy in those days. A quadruple amputee was brought into the aid station too late to save. A memory difficult to exorcise.
@tmmccormick86Ай бұрын
@ yes, multi-amputees are a nightmare to try to save. CPT Hendricks got lucky- he was carrying a tuffbox filled with radio parts and that took most of the blast and shrapnel from the mortar- which landed between his feet- we used belts and wrenches to clamp it all down until we could get him to the CASH. There were a couple other times that deployment where we had Iraqi insurgents missing 3 or more limbs and they were so bad that no amount of tourniquet would save them, but at least there was an option to try.

@jasondubois3399Ай бұрын
An alternative option that I’m surprised isn’t mentioned here and has been what I have been gravitating towards with my own kit setup is wearing a chest rig over a slick plate carrier. It retains all the advantages of the stand alone plate carrier, while also making the entire system inherently scalable.
@MarkRose-s9lАй бұрын
I do it this way as well. Chest rig splits down the center so I can cool down in the desert heat. Water bladder on back. I can slip my backpack over my water bladder. Armor isn't just heavy - it's HOT. If I'm running through the hills and mountains, the armor stays at home. Mike's TQ carrier was accessable only with the right hand. Left hand access is very awkward. I wish someone would develop a carrier that allowed a straight pull away from the body instead of holding the TQ in a sock. I'd like to see a sling bag for mag carry addressed. I'm going that way with some of my gear.

You should mention how to access your gear while in a prone position. When your mags are double stacked it rises your chest up and if you dont have magazines on your waist you have to roll over onto your side or lift up to reach your chest mags. Something to think about. So having a spare mag on your waist that you can reach easily while prone is good.

Slight correction, the MPU5 is a MANET radio not a mesh. Mesh networks have a predefined topology and will collapse if enough nodes go offline. A MANET network is ad hoc, so there is no head node, and if nodes go offline the network will self heal.

As an American, I feel blessed we had our civil war all the way back in the 1860s and have the benefit of having two oceans on our sides. I hope we never see a modern full scale total war in this land. Having an armed population sure seems like a good deterrent to an enemy invasion force. Everyone should remember reinforced concrete stops bullets and frag from ever getting to your plates.

Battalion PA-C here. Absolutely agree on the need for soft armor to stop frag and pistol rounds. Nearly 70% of casualties in Ukraine are from fragmentation and >90% of gun deaths in US are from pistols (so common). Need for medical is imperative. Highly recommend a small kit I you or belt or Fanny pack and a second larger kit in your plate carrier. TQ are Higley important but you need to be very junctional injuries (wound packing in neck, armpit and groin). Simple skill but does take some practice. StopTheBleed course is imperative for all Citizens
