That is probably the best way to go about it and then when your done, if you do have a scrap mountain then empty it, if not, then drop it off at the scrap yard. Then it is ready to the next time!!!🤗🇩🇰

Taco, You might want to keep your sawzall in the cab and two 6foot by 8" planks in the van. IF you rest the planks on the side opening you can slide heavy things up and in without damaging your back. It's easier to slide than lift. The sawzall will allow you to quickly cut down those boxy frame like things and allow more room in your van. I see a lot of suggestions from others and,of course, you'll do whatever works for you, but a bad back or legs etc. is not fun, Cheers, Rik Spector

Wish I could find a working grill. My daughter's upstairs neighbor smokes on his deck. He through his cigarette that landed on my daughter's deck and caught it on fire. She had a small greenhouse for starter plants and a beautiful stainless steel grill. She had taken her propane to a friend's for backup. Good thing too because the whole deck went up. We can't afford another for her so I am just putting it out in the universe. Thanks for sharing.

Our town just started with the automated trash bins. A truck comes along and a claw reaches out, grabs it, dumps the stuff in a hopper and loose garbage goes flying all over. If it doesn't fit in the bin you pay extra with $4 stickers, although some put large recyclables like cardboard boxes out and the guy does get out of the truck to grab it. Only once a year do we have a free anything goes pick-up. Streets are jammed with pickers and scrappers, like rush hour on the expressway.

At the end of your Video, you held up a glass jar With what appeared to be the old Style Carpenter/ blacksmith flat nail's. Start to collect them and watch what they go for at the flea market. Less companies are producing them and the old one's for restoration projects are selling good here in Germany.

Yeah, here in So Calif. we have automated trash trucks. No parking in front of the bins, nothing over 4 ft long, and you can call for pick up of large items, up to 20 per time, twice a year. But, I put them out a couple days early, then put out another batch, and then call in what doesn't get picked up. I haven't had a problem with it.

In our city, you have to call 48 hrs. in advance to have the “bulky” items picked up. They’re picked up the same day as the “automated bin” pickup.... but by a different type of truck.

we have automated system for many years and there is no garbage laying arouned. Once a year at the fair grounds they pick up large items. It works very well but no scaveging

I'm in Cali and we've been "automated binned" since the late 80's early 90's so dumpster divers are more prevalent. With big box stores being closed, the pickings are probably slim for them. I bag recyclables, write the contents with a Sharpie on the side, and put them beside our trash bins the night before. If no one grabbed them by 6am, I put them aside until the following week. Often people come by on bicycles and load themselves and their bikes to the hilt, so I make sure my bags aren't too heavy. I also dont knot them closed so the scrappers can reuse the bags

Our city has the automated pick up for recyclables. The policy is ALL recyclables put out for pick-up has to be inside container and lid closed. If it isn’t that way they simply do not take it and the home dweller is responsible for disposable at that point which means if they can’t make it fit in container or item is too big to fit it must be taken to city dump/ recycling site. A few times a year th city posts days when large items will be picked up curb-side but that’s only like maybe once every other month.

My Uncle used to drive to the rich side of Flint Michigan to pick treasures. He brought home these commercial grade Microwaves that my cousin would turn into powerful welders and other weird stuff using unsafe procedures. My Uncle made him stop when he fried the wiring in the wall, right through the plaster. You could see wire tracks going up the walls. I still don't know why the house didn't burn down or he fried himself.

Hey Taco - I'm trying to figure out a game for you. We would call it STACO. Got to get the right number of letters in there. It would be based on Bingo. Each square would contain something like - GRILL - AIR CONDITIONER - TOOL BOX - SOFA - MATTRESS - CAPACITORS - TOOLS - WEED EATER - LAWN MOWER - LAMP - FAKE FLOWERS - and so forth. You could sell the STACO cards to viewers and give away magnets to the winners. The only thing I haven't figured out yet is how to determine who wins!!! Just a minor detail.

In the City of Tampa they use the automated trucks but in the areas where people park on the street they still have two people on the truck. One drives and one pulls the cans out in the street for emptying by the truck. Then he pulls them back.

I feel bad for you that they are changing to automated trash collection. We have it where I live, in a city and the trucks have an arm that grabs the can and empties it. They are able to reach between cars and grab the containers. Sometimes a piece of paper floats out, but it really isn’t an issue. The main problem is bulk trash that won’t fit in a container, so you call the company and they do bulk pick up.

Here in Idaho, if you do not comply with rules for automated trash pickup, your trash doesn’t get picked up. Sometimes they will get out and put a “bad person” sticker on it. Sometimes they just leave it (I think they may make a note it someone calls.

Cast aluminum is brittle so a couple of well placed licks with a good sized hammer should break it loose. It's worth the effort for the extra few pennies aluminum will bring.

You have an opportunity if you can see it. It sounds like now people have a problem throwing certian things away. You should start a pickup/ clean out service. They pay you to come over to get that old dryer, etc even trash. Not only can you get paid to come and get their unwanted stuff a percentage of those items you can sort out and get paid to recycle. Others you will have to charge the pickup fee and whatever it costs to dispose of those items. Where I dump things they have a flat fee for just a small amount, I combine several small jobs into one larger dump run making the difference as part of my profit.
