It's so cool to see how much your work has improved and changed since this video. Still classic and nostalgic to watch :) Sure wouldn't mind seeing some footage of these trucks again, even though I know that Heil is no longer around. The Curotto is so cool. I love how the driver grips those Cascades by the sides. Are there still lots of those carts out in Collier County? Wouldn't mind seeing some up close pics of those carts in possible :) Do any of the McNellies have non-happy fact signboards or are those long gone? Those trucks are some of my favorites these days even though Florida seems to be FILLED with them (I prefer the older Heils as far as looks and all that used to roam Venice, Pompano, and other regions. I think Naples had an old ribbed Heil if I remember correctly?). 4:44 was always cool to see, it always seems like the Curotto hit the ground. I'm sure you know I wouldn't mind seeing some new WM footage from you, certainly has been a while. Though I know whatever you post is gonna be good :) Great video George!
@georgewuzheer9 жыл бұрын
Don't want to give away too much but there's more WM footage to come, in more ways than one. Cascades still dominate. New carts being given out are Cascades and Toters, especially the 48 gallon EVR IIs instead of the Cascade 32s. It's been a few months since I've seen a non-happy fact Curotto, and in the mean time trucks have been getting repainted or replaced. We had the older ribbed Half/Packs as commercial trucks. Glad you still enjoyed the vid still and that it holds up after all this time.

We have a lot of these front loaders with Curroto Cans around here. Depending on the route, these guys usually do 1, sometimes 2 loads a day, the second one probably half full or less. These FL's are smaller just for residential collection, so they carry about as much as a regular ASL. What kind of trucks do you guys run in norcal?

I agree, the Curotto Can is much worse than a conventional automated side loader. The FL is messy and takes up alot of space. I don't like any McNeilus truck. Unfortunatly, we have loads of them here.
@georgewuzheer15 жыл бұрын
Continued... And when actually dumping, because the trash is piled high in the low sided Curotto Can. They make a terrible mess, and in no way could they ever be used to collect recyclables. They need high clearance to dump the Curotto, often a problem in some areas. Pluses are the simple design, but then again, many ASLs are simple too. Its a truck that works for a small company that needs a cheap, multi purpose truck, but WM should be ashamed they are running these.
@georgewuzheer15 жыл бұрын
No way, any ASL can be sped up to match the speed of these Curottos. You have to dump the bucket every few stops, and dump it slowly to avoid damaging the Curotto Can, and most importantly, Its very messy, and would never work in many parts of the world. There's alot of spillage when the cart is dumped, especially since most drivers try to pile as much trash as possible before dumping the Curotto, when driving, as the wind blows trash off,
@georgewuzheer16 жыл бұрын
Those are called pusher or tag axles, depending on if they are in front of or behind the axle always on the ground, the drive axle. They are lowered to the ground when the truck gets heavier. The more axles on the ground, the better the distribution of the truck's weight on the road, and the more weight it is allowed to carry. The axles are then lifted up when the truck is unloaded, and weighs less, to save wear and tear on the tires and other components.

Wish WM would have a day they take the little ones for a ride around their parking lot. The Children would love it. Both my kids and all 6 grandkids have been in the trucks with my husband and they thought they were big shots moving the levers and such. The two kids rode with daddy for full shifts when he had the airport route. And the neat things the drivers find, and the negative they find too. Bodies, animals, etc. WM has a truck for kids they sell. We have one here.

Wow thats pretty impressive, so those 21,000 lbs you would load on your truck were aside from the trucks weight itslef right? I work in roofing and when we do the tear off we also load it by hand. at times we load the truck up to 11 tons or more, so i know what a beating it is! you have somew nice video uplads. Do you still work?
@Curt815314 жыл бұрын
I did it back in the 80's and there wasn't any automated trucks around here back then. My easy day was 700 homes dude. You don't know what a hard day is untill you load over 78,000 pounds by hand in one day. I used to pack out my truck at 21,000 pound a load in about 3 1/2 hours. These days they all have it easy, they don't have to take yard waste anymore.
