Loved following these trucks around town , during my youth years on bicycle . The more the driver and helper got to know me , they would send me with their money to nearby convenience stores for snacks like chips and drinks like pepsi and whatever change came back , I was told from them to buy candies like gummy bears

It never ceases to amaze me how much stuff gets thrown into the garbage without sorting out what can be recycled or even donated to charity. Here in Surrey, B.C., Canada, most of the items being hauled away in this video would be left at the curb by garbage pick up. The landfill sites in the U.S. must be massive and fill up fast. Here: Mattresses need to be taken to the dump or transfer station, where there is a dedicated spot for disposal. The mattresses then get taken to a special recycler that separates the metal springs, foam, fabrics and they all get recycled. Cardboard boxes get folded flat and if there are multiple boxes, they must get bailed together and get picked up by the recycling truck every 2 weeks Glass bottles/jars, soft plastics (bags, wrappers, etc), batteries, electronic items, kitchen small appliances, outdoor gardening power equipment, used oil, paint/paint cans, must get taken to a local recycling depot and there is no charge for disposal. Food wastes and other compost items must be put into a special bin for weekly curb side pickup and is turned into compost. Metal items (bed frames, bicycles, etc.) need to be taken to a transfer station for recycling (no charge). Large appliances, Propane tanks must be taken to transfer station for recycling In Surrey, we are allowed 4 large furniture items to be picked up by the City at no charge for disposal. This helps reduce the number of furniture items people would otherwise dispose of in a ditch or field. The system is not perfect but it definitely has made a huge impact on our landfill sites and helped keep our city cleaner.

I live in Germany, where only the plastic garbage cans would be emptied, but only if there was nothing wrong in them and only 1 per household/ 1 can per 2 weeks, everything else would have to be taken to the landfill at your own expense.
@rickpd2 ай бұрын
@@BobBuddy_ interesting how various areas have their own ways of doing this. Our garbage bin pickup alternates weeks with the recycling bin and compost goes weekly. If you screw up what you put in each bin, the garbage truck won't take it.

there are 2 distinct types of trash truck crews,,,,,, 1st group values their time , they move fast,,, they lift the cans in the truck and expend a lot of energy throughout their shift but get done early and the 2nd group values their comfort,,, uses the trucks hydraulics to lift cans... they move a lot slower but expend far less energy and take a lot longer to complete their route,,, both get the job done at the end of the day

Where I live in the UK, Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council won't take big items like three-piece suits or old wardrobes, tables and chairs, etc. You have to take em down a refuse facility yourself. You can't just leave em out hoping the bin men will crush em in the back of their truck! It ain't happening over here!
@larsiversen44662 ай бұрын
In my country Denmark,they never collect furniture or other big items unless you have messaged the garbagecompany two weeks ahead and they only come three times a year.Other stuff like metal,plastic and paper are going in recycling bins and are collected every fourth week.Rest is collected every two weeks and there are only one man per truck.

@smitty29863 ай бұрын
Are you aware that most of it ends up in the same dump or factory sitting there building up rubbish piles. Just because we have two trucks and get two or three bins does not mean it gets recycled. Speaking from inside experience seeing where it all ends up. It’s all a government rate rising exercise. They still pick up the same amount of trash yet get you to seperate it for you to pay higher taxes to empty it in two trucks. Green waste for example all get a extra bin that gets emptied weekly wether you want it or not you get to pay extra rates for it to be emptied and now your home composting is out the window as you pay a extra $180 a quarter on a bin not needed in most areas. How does all the farms in my area need a green waste recycle bin? All a scam to get more rates to local government.
