"Bolt cutters are your disconnect" reminds me of the apocryphal story of how the term SCRAM came about. The SCRAM button is the emergency shut off for nuclear reactors, and legend has it that it is called that because in the first nuclear power tests, there was a guy stationed above the reactor in a room with a rope that held a boron control rod above the reactor. If the reactor got out of control, it was his job to cut the rope so the boron would drop in and stop the reactor. The tool they gave him to accomplish this task? An axe. And so they called him the Safety Control Rod Axe Man.

scram being used to mean leave quickly predates chicago pile-1 by around 20 years and other witnesses and the schematics of the reactor agree the axe man story is a false etymology(and bullshit in general, there was no axe, the manual scram procedure in case the other systems fail is some of the operators risking their lives to dump liquid cadmium into the reactor), the rods are deployed by a button labeled SCRAM because in the case of a meltdown you press it and scram out of there

Always wanted to see them get their hands on an RX8 to do this. Total underappreciated nugget. But they're very comfy, smooth, and fun with how endless the rpm range seems to be. And a reminder for people who don't know in the states it's common to swap out the RX7 Rotary for a V8, mainly a 5.7L LS from a Corvette, but I have seen Ford 302s, and Chevy 350s too, anyways point being it's not only more reliable they also get way better mileage too.

“If smoke is pouring out of it… You have full permission to grab the bolt cutters and go to town on the cables.” This is a man who knows what he’s doing AND cares deeply for the car he’s talking about. It’s honestly the best thing to do if you’re capable. Grab the best-insulated “snippers” you have and sever any connection to the power source. If the owner ever reads this: Wire in a shutoff switch within the driver’s reach. A transfer switch would be perfect and easy to wire if you’re capable, which you seem to be. This would perform the same function as cutting cables randomly, and much quicker. I’d almost recommend doing this in any modified vehicle that utilizes high-voltage/amperage electronics. If you’re incorporating the electronics, it’s nearly remedial to add such a safety feature, and it could save your life.

I was pretty shocked to realise this is still Garbage Time lmao. That thing is absolutely the mental image you should get when you hear the phrase 'hot hatch'. Didn't even know they did a hot Charade myself, would be fun to give a thrash around an abandoned housing estate

One of these just sold for nearly $90k in Jakarta, only 1 of 6 ever imported to Indonesia. Boggles the mind that someone would pay that much for a Daihatsu.

Its a pretty cool car all things considered, the Charade we never got. The parts should be *mostly* common considering Daihatsus are kinda popular around here. (Plus the buyer should have money to get parts from Japan lol)

My first car was a 94 Daihatsu Charade 1.4L and it was fantastic. Seeing this makes me wish I'd kept it.

They also had 1.5L NA models here in Aus, like my 97 F2 (G203) and some 4 door models had a 1.6L. (They all have the same head just different block)
