Young Martin’s Reels was created to honor my dad Martin B. Stivers of Louisville KY. He was an avid fisherman and repaired thousands of #fishing #reels in his lifetime. I spent numerous hours watching him do so, but I have forgotten most of what he taught me. Now that he is gone, and I find myself in need of #reel #repair, so I am learning how it is done and trying my best to pass it on.

Rick. Now this is a reel I can understand and appreciate. I like this Kingfisher a lot better than some of the Garcia Kingfisher spinning reels i have that are not worth what I paid for them. Very nice job and a great video! - Chris

Those collars on the main gear shaft are usually problematic when a reel hasn’t been used for a long time. When people lubricate those shafts they tend to use the wrong type of oil that dries out over time and locks the drive shaft. I’ve serviced a couple spincast reels that had that problem.

About 50% of the old spincast reels I have worked on, that have this style of drag system have had this problem. I’m getting pretty good at unsticking these. This reel had lots of grease in it but none in the hole for crankshaft sleeve. There wasn’t anything in there but corrosion dust.

All is well, I was just lacking motivation. I had some other minor projects that required my attention. Aside from that I was just being lazy.
