I would love to see a video on how you layer your plants that flower or leaf at different times and seasons. I just watched your video on all your spring bulbs and wonder how you plan where to put those in relation to your other plants that might still be dormant right now without it looking patchy. I’m loving your videos!

What a great idea to share the cost of a gardening tool that you don't use often! I didn't know that snowdrops would spread by seed that far away. That means it would be a great naturalizer so I need to buy some! Thanks!

A word of warning. ⚠️ It’s really easy to cut through an extension cord with a hedge trimmer. After doing it twice, I now own a cordless one. 😁
@ydoyougarden3 жыл бұрын
I can see how that could happen! So far so good, crossing my fingers 😊
@barbll0003 жыл бұрын
The instructions for hedge trimmers is that the cord should go over your left shoulder and hang down your back and should always remain behind you. I've always done it that way with no problem--however in this case, she was trimmer at ground level and the cord was well out of the way.

I got a shredder almost just like yours last fall . I gathered over 10 large plastic garbage bags of leaves from my yard and woods and the shredder worked great to mulch the leaves down so I could use them on my beds! That has now been added to an every fall chore .

I got one last year but haven't used it yet. Can't wait to create my own mulch. My plan is to put it directly in the garden and let it passively break down instead of putting it in compost first.

It worked great expect the air was filled with grass fibre, filled our sinuses and eyes. I said never again, or we should have worked mask and goggles. Lesson learnt. Thanks for sharing your gardening tasks. 👍❤️😊

Gardening with power tools. I love it! Last year, I got a cordless reciprocating saw and 💕 love it. If it gets dull you can easily replace the blade. I picked up my hand pruners and loppers from Ace Hardware today after leaving them there to be sharpened. I asked the price for an electric hedge trimmer. Depending on one blade or two, it was around $28-$33 to sharpen the blade. I may just use my reciprocating saw because it's so versatile. I plan to use it when I divide some perennials later. I've used it on suckering shrubs by holding the blade vertically. So slick. Yulia, I picked up an Emory Paul tuber and will try my hand at growing dahlias, thanks to your encouragement. I also got oxalis, elephant ears (too bad 'Coffee Cups' isn't in plentiful supply this year) and some gladiolas.

A quick question,Yulia, do you leave all your leaves around shrubs and flowers 🌸 or do you rake everything up to put into your shredder or compost? Great informative video as always, excited to see more of you now that the weather is getting nicer, 💕 from Western Massachusetts
@ydoyougarden3 жыл бұрын
It is preferable that the leaves are shredded because they break down faster. if not shredded they can create a matted mass that prevents water from entering the soil

As the mulch breaks down, will the nitrogen in the soil be depleted? Do you add some high nitrogen fertilizer like blood meal?? Asking because we are shredding leaves for the garden and thought I read this somewhere.
@ydoyougarden3 жыл бұрын
It is a misconception. The fresh mulch only robs nitrogen if it is directly mixed INTO the soil. It is very beneficial on TOP of the soil. As it breaks down it CREATES organic matter and nitrogen for your plants. I may do a video about it 😊☺️

Hello Yuliya, I purchased a couple of root stock of Pee Gee Grandiflora Hydrangea a couple of years ago. They were floppy last year so I cut them back immediately and dried the flowers out for decor. I also gave them a smaller cut this late winter. They're growing rapidly and doing wonderful but on each tree I'm seeing a smaller tree growing from the ground beside them. Is this normal and what should I do with these little trees? Can I separate them and plant them or do I just need to cut them to the ground?
@shimmyhinnah3 жыл бұрын
I’ll chime in! I often drag the lower branches on purpose on the ground, cover with soil and hope that they root. The following year I have new little plants! I then gently uncover the soil looking for the rootlettes and if I find them I then sever the branch leading to the mother plant and transplant the little plant somewhere else in my garden. Free plants!
@truthofthematter94093 жыл бұрын
@@shimmyhinnah Yes, I did that with my big leaf hydrangeas last year but these seem to be growing from deep and the root ball of the pee gee hydrangea. I worry if I try to use my spade or shovel I'll damage my main plant. Do you know of a tool I can use to separate them that I could use (that's smaller)? Thanks for the help Shimmyhinnah!

I need your help, I live in Colorado, zone 5, I am a single person with a single income. I have lived in my single story house, built in 1970, for almost 5 years. I have done a lot of work on the interior but want to do some work on the landscape, starting with the back yard. Last summer I replaced the privacy fence that had fallen over in a strong wind. This summer I would like to take care of the ground. It is not a lawn and it is not soil, it is just a big patch of weeds on clay soil. I am thinking of doing gravel with plants, like you did on one of your jobs. I only have like $2000 Max to spend. It is approximately 1200 sf. What can I do with that much money, which I know is not a lot but it is a fortune to me. I want to a local garden center with not much assistance. I'm hoping you can provide me with some advice. Thank you.
