This beautiful Calypso red E31 850i was left to rot in Southern France for the last 10 years. It was sitting outside in a garden all this time and that took its toll on the poor 8er. I bought it sight unseen and in this episode, we go over the condition of the car as the time has come to bring this forgotten legend of the '90s back to life! But I think this rule ONLY applies to cars that had yellow lights as standard and that have a German Oldtimer License Plate (Car needs to be older than 30 years). The bulb needs to be white, the housing is allowed to be yellow. If I'm wrong I'm sorry, but I think that's the case. Used to see a lot of french Oldtimers where I live, all of them had yellow Headlights. But these are my 2 Cents. At least calling the TÜV Inspector about it should be worth it.

Just so people know. It is not expensive just in Germany only because it is Germany. My dad is a car painter and I help him often. It is such a long painstaking process to paint the WHOLE car. Let's say you are painting the hood. You have to clean it first, sand it (no need to sand it all the way to metal if it isn't necessary) clean it, do something I can't remember (primer I think), sand it under water, clean it, dust off the air, tape the parts you don't want to paint, put the car part into the chamber, dust it, clean it and now it is ready for multiple layers of paint. Someone has to pick the right colour because the database is usually shite and the colours don't match and then mix it. Do you want your paint job to deteriorate in a year or do you want it to last? I know my dad sometimes looks at a car and says "I painted that 10 years ago" Meanwhile you are working with chemicals and my dad at 50 had aggressive cancer and you have to use a respirator if you like your health.

I recently started restoration of my Opel Kadett and done total sandblasting and welding in Kyiv Ukraine. After sand i covered it's bottom completely with Dinitrol with ship paint below it. Rust is no go now:) Here it costed me 1200 usd + 1000 usd for welding. In Germany i thing it would be must more expensive...

this is the best channel for auto restoration no doubt. i didnt even like bmws before this channel, but seeing you being passionate about it sure made me interested in it. i also love your hatred of shoddy craftmanship. so excited about this series! glad you quit your job to do something you love!
