The Garden in Minutes bed is a wee bit different than the Birdies and Vego Garden raised beds. The distinct difference is the rectangular vs oval shape we are accustomed to.
The 17-in-1 bed is available in one height and one color, but when you buy the bundle, it includes the World's Easiest Raised Bed Irrigation (see this video: • World's Fastest Drip I...
The Garden Grid included in the bundle or sold separately is an easy-to-assemble drip irrigation system for your garden bed. When using this system, you'll want to plant crops with similar watering requirements. But there's no hassle with figuring out what parts you need, connecting drip tape, or figuring out elbows and joints. Just slip the sections together, add the hose connector and start growing.
Benefits of Growing in a 17" Raised Garden Bed
1. Ease of Access: With a 17" high bed, you don't have to bend down as much. This makes it easier on your back and knees. It's especially helpful if you have any mobility issues.
2. Improved Soil Conditions: In a raised bed, you have complete control over the soil. You can fill it with a mix that's perfect for whatever you're planning to grow. This can lead to healthier plants and better yields.
3. Better Drainage: Raised beds typically drain better than ground-level gardens. This means less risk of overwatering your plants, which is a common mistake among new gardeners.
4. Fewer Weeds: Since you're starting with fresh soil, there are usually fewer weeds in a raised bed. And any weeds that do pop up are easier to pull out.
5. Pest Control: The height of the bed can help deter some pests, like rabbits or slugs, from munching on your plants.
6. Longer Growing Season: The soil in raised beds warms up faster in the spring, so you can start planting earlier. And in the fall, it stays warm longer, extending your growing season.
7. Aesthetics: Raised beds can look neater and more organized, which can be motivating and satisfying, especially for a new gardener.
8. Customization: You can tailor the size and shape of your raised bed to fit your space and needs, making it a very flexible option.
The Perks of Using Drip Irrigation
Drip irrigation offers several perks for the home gardener, making it an efficient and convenient watering method. Firstly, it conserves water by delivering it directly to the base of each plant, minimizing evaporation and runoff. This targeted watering approach also promotes healthier plant growth by reducing the moisture on leaves, which can lead to fungal diseases.
Additionally, drip irrigation can be automated, saving time and ensuring your plants are watered consistently, even when you're busy or away. It's particularly beneficial in areas with water restrictions or for gardeners seeking to reduce their environmental footprint.
Remember, the key is to start simple and learn as you go. Happy gardening!

Hope you do some follow ups on the watering grid system. Will be interesting to see how easily the holes get clogged up....or not. I will look forward to your review in the future.

Great question! The holes in the Garden Grid are larger than that of a typical drip irrigation system or emitters. We run and test our products using hard water and with basic care and maintenance, our prototypes from 2013 are still running today. Each planting square has 16 water streams, so if some of the water stream holes do get mineral buildup and you don't notice it, you can rest assured your plants are still getting water. However, clearing mineral buildup is fairly easy. You can simply rub a stiff-bristled brush over the holes, or press a safety pin into the hole if it's stubborn. Other care and maintenance would be to periodically check the filter screen in the Garden Grid's white hose connector to ensure it's free of any debris that it may have collected.

It's good to see more competition coming into the metal bed group, especially offering useful bundles. I'm seriously considering the irrigation system for my raised beds, but I'll need to start with ten of them. I wonder if they offer volume discounts...

Out of this garden bed, Vego and Birdies. Vego would be my favourite, this brand my second and Birdies my least favourite. Reason being I do not like the recent upgrades to the Birdies garden beds as I think the new bracing to be less quality than the previous bracing.

12:53 yep! The riser tube comes with all Garden Grids. It’s optional to use though. If your soil is below the top of your garden bed, then you will want to use it. If it’s at the top, then you don’t need to.

Can the irrigation system be disassembled for storage? I live in a place where the growing season it only six months long. I would have to drain it for the winter, and I would rather store it in the shed or garage for winter rather than letting it rot in the sun, since there will not be plants to shade the tubing October - April.

Great question. The maker is in the south and leaves it out year round. It's connected with nonremovable barbs, so pulling sections apart would be difficult. He did mention in another comment that they've had one out in the sun 10 years so far, and it's still in great shape. Draining is definitely a must for a climate like yours. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

I looked at their website, it is weird. They bizarrely use cubic feet instead of sqft, apparently they don't know gardeners use sqft when deciding if it fits in their space. This makes it difficult to compare/contrast the sqft per bed with other brands unless you re-do the math for this company. I like that they have support bars for such a relatively short bed.

Interesting point. I see the inches measurement under the configuration options from my phone. I'll check on desktop later.
@alicias9928
@alicias9928 5 ай бұрын
@@michelleinthemeadow They have inches for length x width. Instead of converting that into sqft of gardening space (a 4 x 8 is 32sqft) they convert it to cubic feet. Unless someone really understands the math differences, they will think that this company has a 41sqft bed while the comparable Birdie's bed is only 32sqft. They are both the same sqft, but this company uses cubic feet, a lot of people don't understand the difference.

I see what you mean now. On the chart, I think they're just trying to show how much soil is needed. Because the garden bed configurations aren't built out to even foot measurements, they dont show feet, i would assume. 47x47in would be close to a 4x4 ft. Thanks for clarifying. I will mention to GIM. BTW, the formula for square feet would be the inches x inches and divide that by 144. I've been tutoring high school math, so that was a good one tonight.
