Assembling flat in the garage is a brilliant tip! What happens after you bring it outside though? Do you have to move all the gravel from under the bed before filling it? How do you level the bed?

Great question and thanks! We leave the gravel under it. After placing the bed down, we’ll shift the gravel around to level it. The gravel (or mulch if you use that instead) makes it pretty easy since it’s loose.

@@GardenInMinutes Does that mean there's no need for weed barrier cloth? If you add gopher wire, do you put that under the gravel? Thanks!

@@michelemize weed cloth isn’t really necessary for raised beds. Most weeds are airborne or found within the top layer of soil. When you fill your raised bed, it will kill any vegetation growing under it. Gopher wire is very helpful! The garden area in this video has it under all of the stone already. If it didn’t, we would pull away some of the rocks to lay down gopher wire, then put the rocks back over it and place the garden bed on top. We’ll usually nestle the garden bed into the rocks a little bit too for a nice clean looking seam along the bottom.

I bought 6 raised beds a few years ago. They are metal and rectangular. The one thing I’d do differently is ensure they have cross braces. With soil in them they bow out in the middle. I’m trying to see if I can purchase braces for added support and to make them look better.

Thanks for sharing! We introduced our garden beds at the end of 2022 and heard that concern from a handful of customers before designing ours too.
