OMG, No! First off, just go buy a weed eater. 2nd, I work with right angle grinders, they are not meant to be used like that without a safety guard. The wire used is going to break off and be launched into your leg. Why do you think weed eaters used nylon string in the first place? You're likely going to end up spending a lot in medical treatment cancelling out any 'savings' in not buying a weed eater.

Agreed, why steel cable? I was waiting for his fingers to fly off. Why not just trimmer string? Also, the steel cable was destroying the wooden pickets.

There is a reason trimmer wire is plastic. As it wears and stresses it will break apart. Plastic is pretty flexable actually. Now think about if you bend a wire 100 times. You can break it. Now think about after this wire fatigues and splinters off at 10000 rpm. That can stick in your leg or worse like a metal dart. Plus metal has a much higher weight so it has more energy when it breaks off flying farther than plastic string. The plastic slows prettys fast as it it light vs its air resistance. Think of a foam nerf dart. Fast at first but slowes quickly vs a bullet. Anyway tired this with speaker wire when i was about 12 to do the yard chores. Figured saved myself from replacing that pesky weed wacker wire. LOL. Nice till little chards of copper stand stuck into my leg. I consider that a cheap, " but painfull" one of many life lessons. LOL. JZ said it best "It's the hard knock life for us"

I am using such a thing atm actually. Only difference is that mine uses plastic cord so its somewhat safer and I have a large protective circle around it. Like the one that is originally on the grinder, but much larger and with wheels.

While it's an unusual way to use an angel grinder, and obviously effective, it's also incredibly un-safe. There is a reason for the gaurds that they come with. And normal trimmers use a semi soft plastic in case parts break off while in use. Starting it with a bare hand could result in a loss of a finger. Buy a real one and save yourself the potential trip to a hospital.

That angle grinder/ Whipper snipper is a monster. I'm surprised it wasn't heaving chunks out of the concrete. Anyway, if you want neat edges, you need to turn that thing 90 degrees and cut down between the concrete edge and the grass. When you do it that way, it looks sensational and the finish is professional and uniform.

You probably should be wearing shorts and rubber flip flops to get the best exposure to your injury and a trip to the ER. And don't forget to leave your safety glasses in the house. Oh yes, maybe weld some cheap butcher knife blades from the dollar store to the wire. Better yet, punch a hole in the lid of a tin can to attach it to the grinder, and then weld several butcher knife blades to the tin can lid. Beautiful. Don't forget to invite all the neighbors over to watch the fun.

I did like the twit who used speaker wire but used high-tensile clothesline core instead having half a clue, downside it takes a lot of cutting with a kacksaw but benefit, it lasted a full day. That's in my little Ryobi linecutter, at its best trimming a beech hedge. Obvs never letting any part of self or valued other humans/pets stray within the disc of doom

So the writing was on the wall when the guy wasn't wearing any gloves during the cutting and welding phase - I'm amazed he has all his fingers still intact - the real cherry on the bun for me is the motor air intakes sucking in grass and the guys bare hands clinched to the steel grab handle - genius - he should sell this machine to the wardens managing death row in the states when they run out of horse tranquilizer and just let the inmates out strimming weeds on a wet day.

Look: watching the video alone should have carried a Government Safety warning. If you look at the comments, there are far too many other comments here that call this stupid, reckless and just plain idiotic. When there are bespoke, ready-made machines that will do this job, for far less effort, and relatively cheap outlay - why the heck go to these extremes and risk it anyway?! The machine is home-made, and I bet you no amount of home or personal insurance would cover you in case of injury, accident or straightforward mishap. Jeesh....! Rocket science it definitely ain't!

@alexandraabraham6698
@alexandraabraham6698 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, many tools are very dangerous, particularly if mis-used, or handled incorrectly. All you need to do safely is to follow the manufacturer's instructions. However, as I said, I doubt this applies to a botched-together, home-made tool comprising of other botched-together and adapted implements. Like I said, just you try claiming on personal health or home insurance for anything that goes wrong with this no-guarantee, cobbled-together piece of bastardized equipment. They'll laugh in your face. Always presuming you still have one. ;)

Lots of negative comments, sounds like fear rather than constructive observation !!! First this machine is no different than a strimmer imported from China, I know I import them. The difference is the safety guard which should be fitted in any experimental machine. Also the early strimmers did not have a cassette of nylon cord they had a nut and two washers that trapped a defined length of nylon cord no different than what was seen. Air ventilation was not a problem once the circular guards were fitted. The motor rating of 700+ watts is powerful enough to clear even the most stubbon undergrowth. As a point of interest a version of this type of low level machine containing 3 motors similar to the one demonstrated is available from Shenzhen China. Moral...don't knock till you know.!!!!
