In my neck of the woods we've been dealing with tornadoes and hail nearly every day for over 2 weeks, with no end in sight anytime soon. Fortunately the tornadoes have missed us by mere miles each time and no hail (crossing fingers!). Trying to garden in the Southern Plains has it's weather challenges. I made the mistake of planting my peas at the base of 3 of my cattle panel trellises thinking I'd have time to get a harvest before putting in my summer vegs. Wrong! They are just now blooming. Sigh... I'm torn between tearing some of the peas out to make room for my melons, butter baby squash, and pole beans. I've been thinking about growing zucchini vertically. Maybe this is the year.

That's scary! But I'm glad the tornados have missed you. Tornados are rare here, although we have had a couple of small ones in past years that have hit nearby. I don't know if you could intermingle your melons and pole beans with the peas on the trellis. The peas might be done by the time the other stuff got big enough to start up the trellis, but then you might end up with a tangled mess. lol My first zucchini sprout popped up yesterday, after only four days from planting.

@@oneseedoneworld You're probably right about the tangled mess! Although we love peas, I usually grow them for snacks in the garden. There's not really enough produced at a time for a meal or to preserve. Beans on the other hand are more prolific with larger harvests. I'll probably keep one trellis of peas, but maybe take out half of the plants at the base of the trellis and plant a melon training it up one side for now. Will definitely be making a note in my garden journal to start those peas earlier - and on a different trellis set up!

Hey, I recognize those scarlet runner beans 😉 You know I’m a soaker 😂 Is that shampoo ginger??? 🤩 Mine is doing great; can’t wait to try the soap 🫚 I love all your arches. I hope you get lots of potatoes. Let me tell you about hot and steamy, sir! 🤨 Your squash bed is going to look great. I’ll be interested in seeing how well you do with the vine borer. Great video! Sorry I’m late. Trying to get caught up on watching 😅

lol my awapui shampoo plants are not gonna make it this year. I think they would do better down your way! So far my potato plants are going gangbusters in the raised bed. How are your scarlet runner beans doing?

@@oneseedoneworld awe, man! Sorry about your shampoo ginger. Well, the scarlet runner beans succumbed to the heat. I got some pretty flowers, but they have petered-out 🙁

Do you ever use surround, that clay stuff? I’ve just started planting in NJ.

I think you are referring to Surround Kaolin Clay? I haven't used it, although I think I might try it this year. I recently saw a couple videos where someone used it on their fruit trees, but it looks like it is a good deterrent for squash bugs as well.

@@oneseedoneworld That’s it! I was considering it as well. I have to find it and read up on it! Thanks. I’m terrible with names!

@@GreenThumbGardener65 Amazon sells it, but only ships to certain areas (plus its $85 for a 25lb bag). I did find another site called GrowitNaturally and they have the same amount for $55.

@@GreenThumbGardener65 Kind of steep on the upfront cost, but I think it lasts quite a long time (the 25lb bag that is). Here are instructions I found: Mix 1 quart (1 L.) of Kaolin clay (Surround) and 1 tablespoon (15 ml.) liquid soap with 2 gallons (7.5 L.) of water. Reapply Kaolin clay for plants every 7 to 21 days for at least four weeks. So if you're only using 1 quart of it a week, I think a 25lb bag would probably last more than one season (depending on how large of an area you're spraying).
