It's rare to see a model railway so well integrated into a garden - both the railway and garden look great. I'm so jealous!

I'd lost my modelling mojo for a few months recently and only just managed to get back into it. Layout's like this leave me with no choice! You've clearly put a lot of work into it and it's certainly paid off. It looks great and the long trains look totally at home. Must have been a cramped working space getting that viaduct in amid the shrubbery on the curve.
@Trains_At_York3 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for the nice comment. The grey viaduct was built about 20 years ago when hardly any of the trees and shrubs seen in the video weren’t even planted. And the main bigger viaduct as seen at the start of the video, that was a bit hard as you say because the tree was a bit in the way as that was only a few years ago.

Thank you. We wish we could’ve shared it as it was building built too but the majority of it was all done before KZbin was around in 2003. Maybe one day an explaining video of how we built the viaduct and other parts of the layout will have to be done.

That's a very interesting model railway! You must be very proud of it. I did find myself asking things like 'where's the freight?' and 'those high speed passenger trains normally go faster don't they?' Criticism aside, it was very entertaining. Thank you for sharing. Al.

Hi. Thank you! It’s definitely great to have although it can be a struggle sometimes. More videos will be coming soon hopefully (when the weather is actually sunny) and the speed for the trains is a bit of an odd one because of camera FPS and to make the trains actually stay on the track when going round corners ect.

Hi. Thank you. One of the biggest challenges was building the viaduct on the first video clip. It took a few years to build but worth it in the end.

This is ace! The viaduct is something else! Do you have a description on how you built it please? Even though I have Oak Road I miss my garden railway because I could just sit back and watch the HSTs really stretch their legs. Not sure why there’s five people that don’t like this?!?! 👍👍
@Trains_At_York3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. We are hoping to try and make a video all about how we built the different points in the railway. We love seeing our HST and other rolling stock stretch their legs too, a real good way to see them do it is outside.

What wonderful viaducts 😍 What did you use for your track bed? & how have you fixed your track down?
@Trains_At_York3 жыл бұрын
Thanks👍. The trackbeds are made out of concrete flags so they can withhold the weather and don’t rot, or crack or anything. The trackbeds have been down for about 20 years and have never caused any harm or done any damage and are still in a brilliant condition. The track is fixed down with some metal pins from B&Q, fencing pins, similar to Hornby track pins but just a lot cheaper and last longer ect🤣
@standclear5023 жыл бұрын
@@Trains_At_York are the metal pins set into the cement joins? between the concrete flags?
@Trains_At_York3 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I got my info wrong a tiny bit. The pins are taped through the plastic sleepers as part of the oo gauge track and into wooden dowel underneath. The wooden dowel is set into the concrete by drilling out the concrete then glueing the dowel in after. We then painted over the top of the dowel and concrete flags. I hope this helps. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask and I’m more than happy to help.

How do you keep you track operating after bad weather
@Trains_At_York2 жыл бұрын
Hi. We can’t use it while the rails are damp so we have to wait until dry and we use paper that’s normally used for ‘wet & dry’ to clean the main dirt off. And run a cleaning train round with a cloth at the bottom to take off the rest ready for a normal train to come round. We might make a video in the future about this.

Thanks. It is annoying about the electrical/OHLE but sadly it isn’t that possible to have the catenary outside.
@grumpyoldpianist32513 жыл бұрын
@@Trains_At_York Thanks for the pointing out the problems of railway modelling. When I run an electric train with no overhead wires, I put a diesel engine at the head and imagine the pantograph engine has been routed off its usual line and has to be hauled with other motive power. This seems to make it more authentic in my mind!!! Just a thought.
@Trains_At_York3 жыл бұрын
This have been thought of before but annoyingly with the hornby 91’s, they don’t have a coupling on the front to allow us to drag them and the cv’s are different between the locos being dragged and dragging. If you have any ideas how to get round this, feel free to say.
