Building a garden room or workshop floor in structural timber is a very simple process with all of the joists the same length, I really enjoy getting out on site and doing some serious first carpentry and joinery

Looking on building my own summer house (gym) 22ft x 12ft what’s the base or easiest base (footings) for me to use? I love them steel anchor’s but that’s going to be costly and something I don’t no nothing about. Concrete piers work fine or? Please help as there is to many video’s showing different ways but some look like the building would subside after a couple of years. Btw brilliant videos, always a pleasure to watch 💯

I do appreciate your generosity but wondered about the levels. Is the ground on a slope / gradient or is it the floor?

It's the ground. It is a bit of an optical illusion. Everything Rob does is on the level. Exactly on the level.

Just a quick question Robin. I've seen you use a scarf joint on a roof construction. Why not use them when installing the joists instead of overlapping them?

How do you join your rim joists together, the ones at the front and back of the structure? Over a post/ with a double joist between the two sections?

This is at another location from the big addition u r doing, correct? How is the pool doing at your house? Do u heat it? It must b very costly. I only heat my Jacuzzi. Although it's warm enough now to swim every morning. I'm slowing learning the terms. Fixing r nails and screws. We still do the inches and feet. I always look forward to RC and the builds.

Hi Robin, Thank you for all your video's, enjoyed watching loads of them, including skill builder. I'm coming up to 64 years of age and been in construction since I was 16. I'd love to come and help you for a few days for no money but lots of tea! I live in the Twickenham area and prepared to travel. I won't bring my zimmer frame with me so don't worry, I'm quite fit apart from that.

Hi robin just subscribed to your channel I am not a carpenter but I enjoy woodworking and also tools and what a great craftsman you are just a quick question is that Milwaukee 18v wormdrive circular saw easier to follow the cut line than a regular sidewinder circular saw and also it's must be a first wormdrive advalable to buy in the UK as they were only advalable to buy in the USA

Hi Tom, we have lots of timber that comes in a clear treatment, we do use the standard tanalised stuff too!!

Little tip for you robin ,when using a rear handle saw tip your timber to 80°and let the weight of the saw do the cutting ,this way you never have any binding at the end of your cut

Why are the screws at different levels Robin ? I didn't understand that bit

All the ground screws are dead level and all laser levelled, the site slopes in two directions away from the front corner of the new building so it gives this mad illusion that the screws are out of level!!

Well there will be electrical cables and other services passing through the floor so we will put down the Egger Protect flooring after we have erected the walls and put the roof on, make sure to check that video out too

Best construction videos on KZbin. Do you ever use timber toothed connectors in between joists when doubling up joists? 42+ years ago when at school, I used to say all the time to the Maths teachers what will I ever use pythagorus for when I Ieave school !!
