👩🏻‍🦰 A B O U T M E:
Ashley has had a passion for plants since she was a small child. In the long summers as a child, she would garden alongside her grandmother and it was then that she realized her love for greenery. With years of great studying, Ashley had begun her post-secondary education at the University of Saskatchewan.
At first, her second love, animals, was the career path she chose but while doing her undergrad she realized that her education would take her elsewhere. And with that, four years later she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a bachelor’s degree in science and a major in Soil Science.
Some of Ashley’s interests are KZbin, in which she posts informative videos about plants and gardening. The focus of Ashley’s KZbin channel is to bring science to gardening in a way that is informative but also helpful to others learning to garden. She also talks about the importance of having your own garden and the joys of gardening indoors. Ashley continues to study plants in her free time and hopes to expand her KZbin channel as well as her reach to up-and-coming gardeners.

I'm not the person you directed your question at on calendula, but I can offer you my knowledge on growing it. I'm in zone 3/4, Alberta, and i started my seeds 7 days ago. They popped up on day 3 inside in small seed cells indoors under grow lights in a warm room. I have a heater in the room keping it at 22 degrees C. I've also put some seeds out in my large planter 2 days ago. 3 year growing them. I usually start earlier like end of march indoors though. Hope it helps at least a bit. 🙂

And my greenhouses are too small, I've got wall-to-wall seedlings and just sowed a 152-cell tray of tomatoes. I sow 2 to a cell and wowie zowie!!! they ALL CAME UP!. I think this spring I shall make a roadside stand and sell some. Why does cabbage germinate and then make an L-shaped bend in the root? I'm so happy it snowed last night and today it's warm and sunny and my peas are in the ground. Happy Gardening!!

3rd year growing calendula from saved seeds, they are extremely strong seedlings, you almost have to try to kill them. I pick up free papers at stores for the paper pots I use with fussy plants like zinnias. My zinnias have been up for a couple weeks now, waiting to get hardened off. Carrots I planted in the cold frame about a month ago are about an inch high, need to start thinning. Got my potatoes in yesterday before some thunderstorms overnight, had to solarize the cover crop of clover 1st. I used black plastic on top of the soil, then covered with clear plastic, creating about a 2" air gap in the raised bed. Temps within the air gap rose to 150F, soil temp as high as 120F. Only took 10 days, 7 days of about 5 hours of full sun, clover was toast. Another good thing, did not find any baby jumping worms in the warmed soil. Pre germinating some luffas to stick in soil blocks, away we go. Stay Well!!!!
@GardeningInCanada

My luffas are nawt doing well lol… the germinated and then just stopped growing. I just put them on heat
@brianseybert192
@brianseybert192 2 ай бұрын
@@GardeningInCanada Sorry to hear that, luffas are goofy. I bet the heat will help. The luffa seeds I pre germinated a few days ago (I lay the baggie on top of one of the 40 watt lights for a little heat) are starting to sprout roots. 1/2 will go into paper pots the other in soil blocks. In a couple weeks will put my 2 healthiest seedlings in warmed raised bed soil with a wall of water around them. Two years ago this method worked well, last year I tried direct sowing and only grew some worm food luffas, lol. I love the luffas because the hummingbirds love their yellow flower nectar, super sweet, even the black field ants go for it. Good luck! Stay Well!!!
