It's the second week in June and my Peonies are in full bloom and looking particularly spectacular this year! The varieties I have are Karl Rosenfeld (dark pink) and Sarah Bernhardt (light pink). My David Austin 'The Generous Gardener' climbing rose is also in full bloom and smells AMAZING. My knockout rose is blooming but the shrub roses and the new David Austin ' Desdemona' rose haven't yet. The Kousa dogwood is still in bloom. A bunch of perennials like my Allium Sphaerocephalon and coneflowers are being eaten by our resident bunny.
Last fall we overseeded the front lawn with micro clover from Outsidepride. I love the look of it, it makes the lawn look like part of the garden and the bees love it. Clover is in the legume family so it adds nitrogen to the soil. It does use some of the nitrogen it creates, but if you mow and mulch the clover back into the lawn it will decompose and add nitrogen (free fertilizer!) to your lawn.
In the cut flower garden the squash varieties have flowers starting to form. The dahlias are growing and I am now watering them.
We moved the lettuce greenstalk so it gets more afternoon shade. The heat lately hasn't been great for it. The strawberry greenstalk has tons of strawberries getting close to the ripening stage.
In the kitchen garden, the tomatoes are growing in leaps and bounds. Snow Peas and Sugar Snap peas are at the harvest point. In the greenhouse my peppers, eggplant, and basil are all growing nicely!
Lot's going on in the garden. I included a few clips of the peonies and roses taken 2 days after I took this video for comparison.

HI, I love watching your tours but you sound is soooo low. It's very hard to hear and it make me not want to watch to the end. I have tried to increase my volume.

I’m sorry that you are having trouble hearing. It is fine when I play it on my end and I increased the volume a lot on this one. Some people are still having trouble though. And I’m trying to figure out why, if it’s a specific browser or device issue.

Try trimming the butterfly bush after the flowers die back, or put them in a pot. Absolutely love your garden! Beautiful!

Beautiful gardens! 😍 I've just discovered your channel. I have the same bunny troubles. What is helping me I noticed last year is they are staying out of one of my beds that I started planting patches of oregano and cinnamon basil in. Through the season I keep cutting back and using those cutting to chop and drop around other areas. Apparently they also don't like the smell of coffee grounds so I've started saving mine scattering around my hydrangeas. Will be amazing if it works. 🤞🏻 Ok back to watching rest of video. 😁

Hi there!! Just found your channel. I garden over in Westport Massachusetts so basically neighbors 😬 I love your DA Rose's on the garden gate arbor. May I ask how many you planted on each side? I have a terrible time with my DA's. They get black spot and yellow leaves. Nice to find you! I just started a channel. Hoping to share more of my garden this year.

Ah you are so lucky to be close to Sylvan's Nursery! I have just the one rose on the arbor. This will be year 3 and it's almost all the way over the archway. The only things I do for upkeep of mine is rose-tone fertilizer in the spring and pruning. I try to keep them heavily pruned for good airflow. I do get a little black spot at the end of the season but I think the pruning helps.

@@HookedandRooted I actually planted a clematis on the other side, but it keeps getting eaten before it can do anything, so thankfully the rose has almost filled the arbor.

I'd give that lone allium a pass this year, it seems to have been a bad year for them. Ours usually get the size of a baseball, but this year they were the size of a golf ball and the flowers only lasted a week or so. I pulled out my butterfly bushes a few years ago, and I'm still pulling out seedlings.

I did end up liking the Allium when it opened more. I planted 10 and only 3 came up and 1 flowered 😥

Will you take your tulips out or leave for next year? My David Austin climbing rose that I planted last year is doing amazing and grew so much this year , I didn’t do a good job tying it to the trellis because some of the shorter branches are all over the place und laying on the ground also. Your gardens are looking lush and healthy , greetings from Western Massachusetts

I am leaving the purple tulips along the front walkway. I let the foliage die back and fertilize them a few times with seaweed feed. I did that last year and most of them came back! Some of the other more specialized tulips (the doubles) did not come back as reliably so I pulled those and will plant new bulbs for next year.

Kia ora (hello) from New Zealand. Oh my! Your peonies are to die for! And I'm so excited to see them blooming as I just ordered 3 peony tubers this morning (Karl Rosenfield, Sarah Bernhardt, and Shirley Temple). I have never grown them before - so am super excited to add them to my garden - which is a work in progress since I moved to my country village 2 years ago. How long have you grown yours for? They look simply stunning! As does your climbing rose. Is it the David Austin 'Strawberry Hill'? I have just planted 4 bare root climbing roses - and as our winter (so far) has been crazily mild - they are already sprouting. Your garden is lovely - I have subscribed and I'm looking forward to more tours. Take care. PS: How far apart did you plant your peony tubers? They look the perfect spacing to me.

Hello! The Peonies are planted about 12 inches apart in a group of 5. They were planted after flowering 3 years ago, so this is the 2nd time I’ve seen them bloom and they were pretty good last year too. We amended our garden beds with compost before planting and made sure not to plant them too deep. That’s it! And provide supports for them so they don’t flop over under the weight of the flowers. My climbing rose is called The Generous Gardener. All David Austin roses are just stunning! Good luck with your garden.

@@LittleRhodyGardener - Thanks so much for the helpful information. And I agree - all the David Austin roses are stunning. I've just planted my first DA - a bush rose called Austin Wonder. I also have Desdemona on order (like a lot of NZ gardeners lol) so I have no idea when I'll receive it, as the growers are fast running out of supplies. Happy gardening!
