Guten morgen lieber eisenbahnfreund.

Watching this again, I'd love to see a train's eye view going through the whole layout in the rain
@Landsend-Railroad4 жыл бұрын
Taking a video of the trains running in the rain presents a little challenge. When the rails are spattered with soil the wheels do not pick up the power as they should and the camera gear is not taking kindly to water from above. I will keep it in mind and may be I can come up with a way of doing it and a consequently a video.
@warlordsquerk53384 жыл бұрын
@@Landsend-Railroad Fair enough. One thing I thought of was when looking at the tram, what if you have a vehicle like it, but instead of seats and people it was there to enclose a camera? Solid sides and back and maybe an open front. Not sure about the power with the track though. Unless the vehicles can be battery powered and remote controlled it'd be tricky
@Landsend-Railroad4 жыл бұрын
@@warlordsquerk5338 Your suggestions are all valid and sensible. The tram in the video is battery operated and I do have a radio-controlled locomotive with its own on-board battery powerful enough to do the job. I could build a special car to enclose the camera and then push it ahead of the locomotive. It is still an involved undertaking. I will work on it.

Are all parts of the layout used....? For example you have a few sidings, or are they just for show? Also, i notice that, for example, the rack line is connected to the main line, do you ever use the connection tonrun trains from the main, to the rack? Love this railway!
@Landsend-Railroad4 жыл бұрын
All parts of the layout are used. May be not very frequently, but all are functional. The connection of the rack railway to the mainline was not used normally, I took it out. It was only an invitation for accidents in the rare case when a cog train did not stop in time and overran the end of its track. Thanks for your comments and questions.

I had a friend who ran 16 mm trains in the garden. The lesser weight of the engines made track contact difficult. He cleaned the track a lot.

@@Landsend-Railroad ah, I run on radio control fitted into the kits, all battery powered, I used to do power by rail but I didn't want to clean the tracks every week, it is surprising how small of an engine you can fit with radio control, a 9 volt and a recharging port, so far the smallest it a Ruston LBT

What is the model number and name of this train And it is from which company
@Landsend-Railroad5 жыл бұрын
It is an open Bachmann streetcar, model number BAC 93938. However, this model has been modified. The chassis (motor, gears and wheel sets) are by Northwest Shortline. It now runs with an on-board Li-Ion battery and a scratch-build control circuit, that makes it stop for a short interval at designated point along the way.

I have been told about Madurodam that rail supplied trains cannot run in the rain - the water causes a short circuit. I heard that your Straßenbahn is battery operated. Madurodam has overhead supply for all trains.
@Landsend-Railroad Жыл бұрын
It is true, my streetcar is battery powered. What is not quite true, is that rain will cause a short, unless the rain is very acidic. There is a small drainage from one rail to the other. It is not a short and the trains can still run. The real problem is the dirt that gets washed and splattered onto the top surface of the rail. That causes a poor contact, the lights will flicker and the motors stutter. The rails need to be brushed or wiped clear of any dirt when the rain stops. The overhead supply at Madurodam solves only half the problem. The power still needs to be returned over one or both of the rails.

Wouldn't the rain ruin the track?
@Landsend-Railroad4 жыл бұрын
No, the rain does not ruin the track. It causes dirt to end up on the rail top, thus jeopardizing a solid electrical pick-up for the engines to run properly. Battery powered engines are of course not effected.
