Garden Treats for Chickens

Our chickens are spoiled 🤪
Hermione typically makes loud noises when she wants out of the run to free range! Luckily the recent rain has helped with growing grass but we still need to wait another week or so to let the girls back out.
They get really excited when they see the straw and start scratching around which typically pulls up the tiny grass seedlings 😂
We like to give our broccoli and cabbage plants to our chickens after we harvest!

ABOUT US: We are Alex and Elaina, a couple in our 20s who are currently living on the 3-acre farm in southern Pennsylvania where Alex grew up. We have a garden, backyard chickens, and build or fix anything that we need to. Once those chickens are back to free ranging the grass will disappear fairly quickly

You can trim and cut match stick cut the stalk, salt, roast and enjoy

Did you know that you can cook vegetables and it will be like cooking cabbage and girl it is good try it you'll like it and you'll stop feeding it to your chickens an feed yourself

Cross brace on that door is the wrong way just like that gate you have. See how the door is basically falling apart? You should fix it properly.

Yikes! Them can go even past first frost sometimes. Secondly you can dehydrate them leaves then crush them. Add amazing texture and flavor to red sauce.

maybe stop growing grass. its wasteful and ugly, even more so if you're making living animals upset just for aesthetics 🙄

What a waste! You should be cooking and eating the younger, more tender broccoli leaves! You dont need to pull up the plants, either. They will continue to produce smaller sprouts for weeks. Pull off the older bottom leaves for the chicken.

I don’t have chickens so I use them for juicing greens or the compost pile or the distract slugs and squirrel like animals from eating everything everywhere pile!!!❤❤❤

If you can’t grow grass, it’s because there’s not enough soil beds with plants and bugs in it. We grow grass fine, the chickens barely go on it, spend all their time in the deep beds that surround the property. And they keep the weeds down too in there, so extra bonus.
