I've already seperated my gardens into zones based on this series. It's brilliant. I added trimming to mine because I have more grass, and lumped like things together rather than specific spaces all next to each other based on what each area needs weekly. I can't wait to start using it

Took a glass of wine and a notebook out to my garden to plan my own zones. Great idea. I take this approach to housecleaning inside but never thought about it outside. lol. I'm midway through the process of redoing major sections of the garden to make it more "senior" friendly. I figure I've got only a couple of years left of agressive gardening (double digging, hauling rocks for ponds, etc.). I'm trying to get more seating in, building a greenhouse (not a Hartley, alas), a few raised veggie beds, and lots of perennials. So far so good. Really happy with the results. I've got a couple of major projects to finish up before freeze up this year and a couple of major projects for next year and then the entire garden has been renovated. Your zones will give me time to stay on top of the rest of the garden while I throw myself into the "projects".

I get the senior friendly planning. I'm about to turn 60. ( How in the world did that happen so fast?) I've been doing the same thing and also planning seating areas so I have more nice places to sit while I'm doing my chores or just to sit in the evening and admire the scenery. This series has been so so so helpful to me. It's encouraging and affirming that I've been near the right track. Although, I've been kind of an "I see it, I do it" type. The best thing about this is, I see it and it can wait until it's day to get done! That's gonna be and has already been so freeing!!! Happy gardening!

I planned on adding two more perennial beds this year. Bulged a disc in my back in early spring and haven't been able to rake care of anything. It was a wake-up call. I am 64 this year, it is time to stop adding beds and figure out what needs to be done so that I can take care of what is close to the house. Bummer, but that's life.

IT was very helpful and encouraging to see your system in action Laura. This has made me realize that we all deal with the same things, plants sometime die and you said "I don't know why", the evergreen that simply didn't make it, the weeds, the volunteer seeds that pop up, the plants that need to be brought under control with a little pruning, Then stepping back to view the space and take a deep breath of joy, delighting in the layers and colors. Hi Laura, I've loved this series as I am definitely a visual and oral learner. Hoping you can do a fall cleanup video again or link the best ones you've made on the subject before? Also, I'm wondering why you don't do hedge trimming weekly in each zone to keep it minimal and always tidy? Would that prevent some burn if it was minimal? Enjoying planning "zones" in my garden. I'm recovering from a hand injury so I'm a bit limited. However, instead of thinking that I have the whole garden to weed and pick up sticks from Hurricsn Ida, today I told myself that I had "just one section" to clean & weed. Got that done and my husband can haul the wheelbarrow to the back to dump. Tomorrow - another small section.

This is a great series to educate us all on how to better manage the garden. I didn't realize it, but I have an informal schedule that I follow. Following dinner usually 2 or 3 times a week, I grab the rolling cart that I made (using a luggage cart, a 5-gallon pail, and a bungee cord), my gloves and pruners, and I take a stroll in my front yard to pick up any debris and tidy up. Another day, I cover the gardens in my back yard, usually doing that in two evenings as the back yard has several larger gardens. This is really a nice time of the day, as it's cooler. During my post dinner strolls it also gives me time to admire the garden, combining the tidying-up with a mini-tour that enriches my gardening soul! After all, that's what gardening is for me--enjoying the beauty that I've created!

I loved these segments. It has given me ways to help my mom get her garden back to its formal glory. That task has overwhelmed my 83 year old mom. And as a result, she has not enjoyed her garden at all. I am excited to explain this method to her. I especially enjoyed the drone tour of your property. I have a question about planting under the ash tree. You talk about planting beds instead of grass due to the tree roots. So how do you work around the tree roots? Do you just cut some of them? Try to find ways to dig around them? Add soil on top? I'm super excited to see the new beds in that area take shape!

We all love to experiment with new cultivars, vignettes and installation of features that better serve the evolving needs of our growing family and our tastes. How to manage all of that is as complex as it is overwhelming. Australia was a bucket list place to visit and maybe I still can, one day. I have some health issues and the thought of the length of that flight is a bit daunting. Every single person I have ever met from your part of the world has been so kind and fun-loving! ❤️ I watch a woman from Cambria who lives succulents and she has hundreds of them. I guess the lows there can get a degree or 3 below freezing but she has worked with these succulents and gets them accustomed to the light frosts and then the light freezes. Anyway, she has a beautiful garden just full of them! My husband and I played music at an old west show and chuckwagon supper just south of Amarillo. It was back in the 90s. Every Saturday night for 2 or 3 years we had 2 buses come in for the show. One started in LA and went to NYC and the other came the opposite. They met here and we had such a great time with all the ppl. Everyone was either from Australia or New Zealand on those buses and we loved them! We took them down into our little canyon and then fed them and did our show from the 1880s and it was hard for them to stay seated! They'd been couped up on the bus and in the cities and they got out on our countryside and said it felt like home! It seems our climate is a bit similar to some dryer places in your outback. Oh, they laughed had such fun with us! Then, when the sun started going down we got them all back on the wagons and we all went back to the welcoming barn that had a cement floor and taught anyone who wanted to learn, how to 2 step, do the cotton eyed joe and the schottisch and the macarena which was the big dance craze at the time. Then, they hopped onto their buses and went to a very large club that was here called the Midnight Rodeo and used what we taught them and danced the rest of the night away! Sometimes, when we got all our chores done after the show, we would go there and join them! So much fun! My husband and I don't drink but it was okay, those ppl did enough of that for all of us! 🤣😂🤣 So, after meeting so many wonderful ppl from your part of the world, it sure made me want to visit and maybe run into one or 2 folks we met. There were about 60 every weekend for many summer Saturday nights. I always thought I was bound to find it least one! ❤️ Sorry for rambling. Those were, by far, the best days of my life... Standing up and singing and acting a bit in our 100 degree F temperatures! 😂 It was so much work and so much fun!!!

All we see is a happy lady gardening on the screen, but we forget that Garden Answer is a team of content creators. They make and edit videos all year, come up with topics to fill up the entire year, they are teachers as they are teaching us valuable garden lessons, and on top of that they don't seem to break a sweat and look a hot mess as I always do when I garden. They also invest all their money back into their gardening, spending their own money on supplies, giving back to the community, and as Laura has said before they don't even take vacations so that they can focus all their efforts and money on their business. We did not buy that Hartley, their hard work and business provided it along with the income they make to survive. Saw an old “Gardeners World” show where they recommended putting a stake near bind weed and taking it and winding it on it. Then it was treated with a systemic weed killer. You could paint the leaves with it. It supposedly will kill it down to its roots. They said pulling it stimulates it to grow. I’m going to try it.

Loved watching the this series of videos. It inspired me to go out and do the same to my flower beds. It took me all of 1-1/2 hours. 😂 So far I have small beds that I got going during a time when we are doing repairs to our house. It is very tough to do both but those few plants in my beds gave me joy when the other was not. Looking to increase my beds so I can have a zone 2. Thank you for the inspiration!

Thank you for the maintenance videos :) I have started doing the zoning thing this year and it has helped so much in my garden, I weed my main garden on Mondays and I have almost completely eradicated the Thistle that was infesting that garden in the beginning of the season! I just have to say thank you so much for doing this. Viewing my garden as a whole instead of zoned has made gardening so challenging these past few years. Im the only one that gardens and as I keep adding more flowers bed it just has become so daunting. I look at all the things that need to be done in my yard and I get so overwhelmed and not want to do any of it. So my garden hasn’t looked the greatest. Having you explain it the way you did totally made sense. Yesterday I was doing some maintenance work in my front yard and I noticed a few other things needed to be done in another part of my garden. I told myself no, finish this area today and tomorrow you can tackle that side of the yard. I was able to focus on one area and now that area is done and I can focus on the other area today. I think most of us would agree that we enjoy your content. We learn new things as you go and are also very inspired! You’ve always had a realistic quality that we can relate to. You also have bright us through many life adventures and to be honest, added a family like feeling to your channel. Gotta have coffee with Laura on a daily and when there’s no new content, I watch the older videos. I’ve watched a few more than once because,”I need that plant!” So, you can best believe the content you choose to do for us will be watched, enjoyed and learned from! (You’re my reference guide)!

Hello everybody! Two weeks ago I had a sprained ankle and totally neglected my garden. Even though I have a small area, everything was overgrown and invaded by weeds. This series inspired me to get to work and I did the whole garden in 1 day. It took me 4 hours but now I'm much happier. Thank you so for the inspiration. You are a blessing! 💚

I absolutely LOVE the zone system. Just started with you this week and it is working like a charm. Here in the south we actually buy purslane and plant it in our gardens! One gardeners weeds is another’s bedding plant. 😂✌🏻🪴 Thanks so much for all the great content.

New Gardner in Ohio: seeing the grass connecting looks so nice. It will be absolutely beautiful. You speak of doing daily chores, but when do you get time to tackle the extra jobs needed in those areas? These videos have been a great help.

If her weekly zone tasks only take an hour at the beginning of the day, then the rest of the day is open for other things like checking the drip or heavy tree pruning or boxwood trimming. Remember that this is her full time job, tucked in and around raising two kids and all the other things of course. For me, I tackle my bigger tasks on a day when my zone takes less time. Then there’s always a few hours on a weekend.

I really appreciate this series Laura. It's so funny that you mention visual learners... That's me! We just moved into a home with an established front and back yard and a paid gardener, but weare looking forward to putting in some time on the weekends for little projects here and there. We don't have a maid service and this series has inspired me to put the zone method to work INSIDE the house. You just never know where your inspiration will land on us, do you Laura?

This series has been most wonderful. My Grannie and my Moma embroidered pillowcases for each day of the week, Monday was 'washing' - Thuesday was ironing....etc. --- the same concept....but gardening is so much more FUN!

I've adapted the zoning system to how I clean and maintain my home 😃 as I dont have a garden anymore, but find my cleaning so constant and laborious, fir the past year... it is zoned and so much more fun to maintain, less time consuming 💕

From the first video where you explained your zone system of garden maintenance to now I have been inspired. With paper and pencil in hand I thought about all my commitments, divided my lawn and gardens into 5 zones and began the process. It did not end there…if it works for lawn and garden why not in my house! I divided the cleaning of my house into 3 zones, taking again into consideration standing commitments, garden tasks, etc. and love the outcome! I’ve always been an organized person but would try to get everything done in one day and be worn out. Thank you for this series and honestly all your videos. No matter what time I eat breakfast you and your family have been my companions throughout the years. I live in Zone 7, have planted many of your suggestions, and will not share my Falco’s with my husband (I actually hide them from him). In honor of my new found freedom following your Zone Garden Maintenance System I am ordering him his own Falco’s. He thanks you as well!

I cannot thank you enough for this series. I started your zone system this week, and it is already helping me to stay focused and hopeful that I will get it all under control again. Before it always felt like I would do a little bit all over the place, and I never really got a handle on anything. We live on acreage with very overgrown gardens surrounding our house. As I age, I am finding that I need to find new ways of managing everything. The overgrown aspect is due to when I was younger, I could keep up. That is no longer the case. Your zone method was exactly what I needed. Thank you!!!

I have enjoyed this series of maintenance videos. It has inspired me to get started on maintenance in my own yard. After Wednesday's video I went and started on the Cast Iron Plant around the chimney of my Sunroom fireplace. I didn't get to finish as I disturbed a Yellow Jacket nest that I did not know was there. About 100 Yellow Jackets but I only got nailed once on my right index finger. My pet Daisy (17 years old) was standing right beside of me, so I had to quickly get myself and her away from all the swarming Yellow Jackets. Laura and fellow gardeners beware and be careful. If I or Daisy had been stung by all those Yellow Jackets or even just half of them it would have been very bad. I hope Benjamin and Samantha Grace never have to experience this.

This was the first year I am so far ahead of my weeds. Normally at this time I am just catching up on weeding from what over grew from n the spring! Doing a little bit regularly really helps. I can’t wait until my new perennials grow in as well giving less space for weeds! Laura is the main reason for my garden successes! Thank you Laura! I would love to see more weekly chore videos.

@@maxinema7163 Yep, started doing this garden maintenance by zones just after Laura's videos were released. I have a suburban lot, so it isn't big, but this method helps me to not get overwhelmed. Also, as I am going through the maintenance, I am making my list of bigger projects which need to be done. The key is to stay on top of things. I am sure you will be able to get this started if you need to.

Thank you for adapting to the voice over concept wit this video. Sometimes it was hard to tell what you were doing in the others this was super easy to follow! BTW someone or maybe you suggested doing a bit of dead heading and other maintenance in areas as you walk by. I am trying to catch up on one bed and so have been going into the two that are under control and deadheading for 10 min before I start my bed I am trying to fix and my others are even less work on their appointed days! So thanks to whoever made that suggestion, once again a way to keep things simple and not so overwhelming. I love ya girl for all you share!

Laura, just wanted to say thank you sooo much for this series! I have a small garden space around my house but I have a tendency to take a day and take it all on in my Florida heat and humidity ugh! And by the time I’m done I’m exhausted .Than I forget about it for a couple of weeks and than the weeds getaway from me. It’s a viscous cycle. This will help me to stay organized and on task. I very much enjoyed this series, I too have many beds and so many people say how do you look after it all...well zones...if you keep up with the weeds it is not overwhelming. I work full time as well, 12 hr shifts so knowing you have to weed once a week is simple
