RE: KNEELING PADS: buy TWO! A reader tip in a magazine I am subscribed to mentioned how she uses two, with one beside the other. Instead of standing & shifting a single kneeling pad when she's ready to move, she slides over to the empty one, moves the just-vacated one to the side in the directions she's going, and moves right along. Really helpful for protecting our joints.

I always saved my questions till after the recap hoping to find the answer without asking. Now I understand why they never got answered! I also use a shorter shovel, nice size to lift dirt but just shorter and easier to use handle. I love it and no one else is suppose to use it - it gets lost then. I keep my prize inside my hallway behind the shelving unit - hidden but easy to reach inside the door and grab when needed.

Ya humidity is gross. You expect the thunderstorms would cool things down but it doesn't, then you are just dripping sweat when you aren't even doing anything, sweat going into your eyes and stinging and if you wear glasses they keep fogging up. I dont know how I would survive without AC 😅. I have been trying to manually dig shrub stumps out of the ground for two days and can't work for more than 30 mins without running inside for an AC and popsicle break 🤣. And washing the sweat off my face with cold water. Ridiculous 🥵.

I have a freeze dryer, so I freeze dry a lot of stuff, rarely any candy. The most successful things for me are cilantro, spinach, green onion and chives, mushrooms, onions, and all the berries (except blueberries). Also, apples and Asian pears are great. The only things I actually reconstitute are the spinach (in soup), mushrooms and onions. The cilantro and green onions are great on foods in their freeze-dried state, as they have full flavor, but the texture is similar to fresh. You cannot get a feel for what freeze dried food is like from the purchased product. I have compared them and there is no comparison. My daughter has texture issues and hates freeze dried foods for the Styrofoam like texture. As far as freeze drying to reconstitute, it will turn out the same as if you froze the product. I have also freeze-dried tomatoes and then grind them up for use in soup, and depending on how much water you use to reconstitute, it can be from paste to juice. I have also freeze dried cooked pinto beans and ground them up for instant refried beans. Freeze dried broth is great. I do both freeze drying and canning in my preservation. Blueberries are best just frozen however. I do not freeze dry for long term storage. I package all of my freeze-dried products in mason jars and vacuum seal them in-between uses. Super convenient!

We have had a never ending problem with string algae in our water feature with our koi pond. The best thing we used is a product called Algea Fix, which is safe for fish. We also have high Ph and our local pond place told us the Ph can encourage algae growth. Sadly, a blue heron showed up one evening and by the next morning, every single koi was gone. I live in the Willamette Valley, and we have herons, but never before at our house. I hope you don't have them in your area! We won't be getting more fish because I'm sure that heron will come back.

Have you ever considered planting your daffodils in the cut flower garden in the center of the rows so you can leave them there? You could then plant your other plants or seeds on either side. When the new plants grow they would cover up the dying daffodil foliage. You could easily put 3 rows of daffodils in and never have to dig them up. They would just be a little more spread out through the area, but would still give you a big impact in the spring. Always trying to think of ways to make less work for you. I know your projects keep your channel going, however, I don’t foresee you running out of projects anytime in the near future. Butternut squads will grow up trellises. You may have to tie some of the vines. I have very small raised beds….2’ with green fencing. I clip the vines to the wire. It works fine and it is straight up. On an angle it would be even better. The vines are strong enough to hold the fruit without the stems breaking. You can keep it tidy. I have faith in you. You WILL rise to the challenge and succeed. PS. Your little tease has me curious about this “new exciting project”. Hm. The sparkle in Aaron’s eyes leads me to believe it may have something to do with more trees. I enjoy your recaps as much as the planting videos. You have such a good rapport. 🥰

The newest update is that he has a new home with Bethany. It's related to his habit of spraying everywhere to mark his territory (most probably because he and Russell and Douglas are all male cats and it was stressing him out), and attracting neighborhood male cats to the property. The spraying was also damaging personal property and was getting to be a real problem, so Bethany took him to her place. I think they also mentioned that Russell and Douglas are not having issues any more since the spraying stopped....not sure. (I think they answered this question in last week's GAH, so 2 weeks after you asked this question.)

I had a smaller pond in my backyard. We had the water being pumped through a biobox which was full of stones, a layer of large, another layer of medium and the last one was fine gravel planted with water plants. The water was filtered through and the plants took up the nutrients in the water. This cleared our algae problem as it's the nutrients that encourage the algae. Water iris are great growers and just eat up the nutrients as well. You may also try some submerged plants to control it. The fish love eating these too.
