People should ask their local garden centers for specific info.

Oh, and I have a pocket tip for Laura, too! Find a black mesh utility vest for fishing! (Amazon or a sporting goods store.) They’re loaded with pockets, long enough for extra coverage, and light enough not to make you sweaty. This is what my husband and I both wear in the garden to carry a phone, gloves, clippers, and a packet of plant ties, plus doggo cleanup bags and a few treats for bribes in case we do run across one of those snakes I mentioned in my other comment. 😄

@@pollytiks3885 I bought the first one for my husband to use in lieu of a backpack when his chronic back pain got too serious to ignore anymore. I can see where Laura is coming from when it comes to gardening in her area, having garden centres that stock plants for their customers based on environment. Having grown orchids in all kinds of environments, I try to communicate that what you see on screen is not limited to what knowledge base I could provide. But it os hard to be as all inclusive to everyone watching GA videos, when gardening in one zone. Kudos to Laura because, as I watch and listen, she really covers so many eventualities and possibilities given the circumstances she is gardening in. ❤

So many thing I've learned since I found your channel! *I don't have to have a perfect plan before I try something. If it doesn't work, I can change it. *I enjoy discovering what makes me happy and what works in my garden rather than copying someone else's style. *I've learned what to look for when deciding what to spend money on rather than buying something just because it's pretty. I've had much more survive as a result. *succulents are no longer scary. *I started growing a lot more perennials (mostly from seed) and gained more patience, with less work. *I'm able to recognize SO many more plants when I go to a nursery, and have a much better idea of how they grow and how to take care of them (even though I'm in the hot and humid south with lots and lots of rain). *Thanks for staying true to yourselves!

ATTENTION AARON!!! Don’t trim your Linden! No, don’t cut - that’s the future trunk of the tree. The side shoots off it will (with time) develop into the crown. It will straighten itself out in a year or two as it puts on more wood thickness on the stem. Cutting it would leave a weak point in the tree’s future growth, which could mean large branches falling off in the future.

I appreciate your comments, Laura, about considering your area in regards to invasive species. For instance, in my area privet , butterfly bush, and a bunch of other plants are considered invasive, because conditions are so mild. In the US, your county or state’s extension office and websites can give more information on what is invasive to your area. Thank you so much for your videos! I watch them everyday and learn so much! And so many things you’ve talked about, spurred my interest to investigate more, which has turned me into a more knowledgeable gardener! Thank you!

Everyone has a sumac story. Here's mine. There were three in my limited parking area when I bought my home in Denver. Didn't know anything about them, except they were called Tree of Heaven (ya, right). Had them cut down and the trunks ground down. The next year I found them growing up in my (yet to be landscaped) backyard. Dug them out by hand -- filled a large garbage can full of alien heads! Paid another person to bring in this contraption that dug down into the earth and rooted them out. Then I felt safe to landscape. Two years later/ just last week, the weirdest looking huge, clumping mushrooms are shooting up in the parking -- breaking through the road base -- are and even into my landscaped backyard and under the garden shed. Obviously, the trees are dead, but their spirits remain -- Tree of Heaven, indeed!!

You are so very blessed that you don't have to deal with snakes. Here in the Deep South, our snakes can take your life. Before picking veggies, especially dense plantings, I make my husband do a snake check with a rake before I will even get close to the garden. That fear takes a lot of the joy out of gardening when you come face to face with an aggressive cottonmouth water moccasin. These snakes (even the babies) will chase a human or animal. That saying, they are more scared of you, is a bunch of bull when it comes to these snakes.

I'm laughing over .. Aaron's characters for plants and Nooooo kitty. We in Colorado love the butterfly bush .. Not invasive! We have a lot of open burning here, too.

I love that I don’t think about what you are wearing either. The focus is on what you’re doing.

As to the new USDA climate zones, plants are more often killed by the lows than highs. If we get one or two nights at minus -30F (which we randomly do,) the given climate zones are wildly inaccurate. So while we're now told we're a zone 5, to be safe we're a zone 3 or 4.

A really good video would be to visit all the gardens you’ve helped create! We’d love updates!

Laura, I love what you said about not thinking about what you are gonna wear. I am the same way. I work an office job and I have black, gray, navy blue and everything matches. In my garden I just wear loose shirts with comfy pants. The one thing I need is garden boots. I purchased some from Walmart but they are cumbersome not real garden boots. Please tell me where I should purchase some really good ones.

Happy Mother’s Day! Some advice on pulling out the sumac. Get the ground pretty wet where they’re growing before you try to pull them out. My husband didn’t keep up with cutting a bank on our property and the sumac and multiflora rose took over. He spent a whole summer getting the roots wet, then digging them out. We have lots of rock and the roots of both those plants would grow around and encase the rocks. This experience led to him creating his own radio controlled mower to mow the bank 😂.

Benjamin was kind of like a tornado. Came in spun around and then drifted out. So sweet.

The lady that has the National Collection of big bamboos in UK she has a ditch around every variety of bamboo. So when they put she shutes out the will stack out on the side of the trench and are easy to cut. When asked why not have metal or something around instead she said that then they will try to go underneath and if they succseed you have those shutes/rootes way down in the ground! Not a good idea! Be careful what you do! I whish you all the luck with the sumacks! Btw. I have mine in biiig pots/barrels to make sure they don’t spread. And they are soo Hardy even here in Sweden to survive winters in those pots/barrels!

I love your entire property but my favourite is the west side. Sometimes when I can't sleep I imagine myself walking there and it is serene and calming. Thank you for such wonderful videos. I have learned much from your expertise. Happy Mother's Day, Laura.
