Lovely garden! I’m in central texas and have so many volunteer ruelia and zexmenia…I’ll have to wait till October for reliably cooler temps before transplanting.

Thanks, we get a lot of enjoyment from keeping it looking as good as we can. Yeah, best to wait until it's cooler to transplant. The Texas summer must be very hot ☀️

Just found this channel and have subbed. Started a new garden from scratch this year in a new build and am really pleased with progress. Just can’t seem to propagate cuttings though - do everything recommended - right compost - perlite - horses powder - side of pot etc but they all seem to die! Perhaps one day I’ll get it right1

Great to have you with us! It must be very exciting for you starting a garden from scratch. You can get things exactly how you want from the start. Don't give up on cuttings. Some plants are trickier than others to root. If you don't already, make sure they are covered with a plastic bag to prevent moisture loss.

I had a load of Erysimum "babies" in the bottom of a large pot that contains a rose. I rescued the plants and put them in their own pots and they're growing away nicely. I've got about twelve plants all for free. I bought the original plant about ten years ago from B and Q and because they self seed, I have them every year. I can't understand why this variety comes through all the winters yet my Bowles Mauve didn't make it through a single one. Hope you're both enjoying your weekend. It's been lovely here the last few days so I've been outside. I tidied a huge section at the back of my garden which gets neglected and I had a little robin following me. He came really close and when I spoke to him he tilted his head from left to right as if he was listening. I had a robin a couple of years ago that did the same but he disappeared last year and a really unkempt one turned up in his place. I understand that they're very territorial. I like to think that the robin following me around is the one that disappeared. xxx

@wendybartlett6717 That's wonderful Wendy, we love Erysimums for their lovely scent and long flowering period. We'll have to allow ours to set seed and see if they grow. We had a nice sunny day yesterday but today we've had showers and some thunder and lightning. Honey was a bit shocked with the loud bangs as it woke her up from a nice sleep. Robins are lovely gardening companions. There was one that was always around when my mum passed away and they do say say that when Robins appear, a loved one is near. Your little Robin might be the same one, just a little older and a little aged like us all! Have a great week Wendy, take care xxxx

Salvia cuttings looking healthy and green like mine are too 👍My Stipa Tenuissmia is blowing everywhere but maybe too early to know how much will self seed! I have too much in my yard and due to work commitments/shift patterns as well I think I burnt myself out and needed a timeout, hence I've been quiet, sorry. The 2 Eryngium Neptune Gold which I moved due to over shadowing by a Salvia haven't liked the move and I think they're going to die. Maybe i need more drainage holes above the bin area, I don't know 🤔I'm on day 5 of 8 off and recharging my batteries, even though a sink tap replacement has turned into a full sink/tap/cabinet change as the sink broke upon removing a 50yr old tap 😡 I've done nothing more with the website, I just had to take a back seat and chill out. Hope you both have had a great few weeks and are good and healthy enjoying relaxation time when you get it, take care, Richy 😀👍

Hi Richy, good to hear from you. It’s good that you have been taking it easy, we have to look after ourselves and know when some relaxation is needed. You work very hard and do difficult hours so I’m glad you have some time off to recharge. You’ll have to keep an eye on the Eryngiums and see if more drainage is needed for your planter. We’ve been okay, had some time off together last week and have enjoyed the garden in between the showers and cooler weather. Enjoy the remainder of your time off, take care too 😀👍

Another brilliant and very helpful KZbin video. I did my Persicaria cuttings last week, I'm wondering what will be the best time to split the Orange Geum, now or should I wait for Spring? Thank you🙏🙏🙏

Hi Paul ! That's a nice reminder. Since you posted your video about euphorbia cuttings, almost each day I tell myself I have to do it (one of mines is struggling where it is so I figured I might as well take cuttings to start again fresh). I've already started to collect seeds, even when I walk in parks: I found some dried echinacea flowers from what seems to be "pretty parasols". I know seeds of echinacea aren't true to type but I wanted to try :) In september I'll let some dahlias go to seed to experiment with growing new varieties from seeds ^^ I tried taking cuttings from lupins and bleeding hearts but My plants are nit mature or in perfect condition so we'll see how this goes. xx

@@mypreciousgardenHi, I have a list of things to do in my head and sometimes it takes ages to get around to actually doing the jobs even though I am reminded each time I go outside! Sometimes other things just take priority. That's a good idea to get some cuttings of your euphorbia. It's great that you're already collecting seeds and finding seeds in parks to bring home. Plants for free is the way to go and it's exciting to see what the plants turn out like. Its been a bit rainy here the past week but things look a bit better for the weekend and the week ahead so hopefully will be able to enjoy the garden more. Take care xx

A question on the stipa, I have a lot of seedlings which have grown this year. How long do these take to become a good size? Wispy seedlings to small handful size.
@MadAboutGardening
@MadAboutGardening 14 күн бұрын
@@Saltytoxico To get to a good size, probably 2 years. The oldest ones in our border are now three or four years old. Thanks for your question. Take care

Hello, thanks for the video. When you mention’over wintering’ the cuttings, what specifically do you mean? What do you do with the cuttings?
@MadAboutGardening
@MadAboutGardening 15 күн бұрын
Overwintering just means putting them in a sheltered place where they can be protected from the worst of the winter weather. We don't have a greenhouse, but that would be ideal. We use our summerhouse and our mini plastic greenhouses to help them survive the winter. The cuttings will be potted up when they have rooted and then placed in our mini greenhouse until the spring. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

Hi Paul i am new to gardening but i was thinking of planting tubs of daffodils tulips and crocus in layers so is it ok to plant them now being as they will be planted together in the same tub?
@MadAboutGardening
@MadAboutGardening 10 күн бұрын
That's a great idea as you'll have lots of flowers to enjoy over a longer period. So long as you're using fresh compost in the container you should be fine planting everything now. We usually say wait with tulips until the colder weather to ensure any soil borne viruses are killed but in pots, this isn't much of a problem so long as the compost if new. Happy planting 👍
