Sometimes it's tough to get motivated, especially when there's so much to do. That imposter 'larkspur' is hilarious! Can't tell you how many times I'm not sure what something is, let it grow, then realized it was a weed all along 😂. P.S. Agree - the whole before and after when weeding is TOTALLY satisfying!

Hey Steph! 👋🏽 Gardening is hard work. It is not for the lazy person. I have to go out either everyday or at least every other day to stay on top of my garden. It only takes 15 minutes unless Im doing a project.

Absolutely!! Then next spring we'll get a bunch of baby seedlings with minimal effort on our part. Some plants freely self seed anyhow if you leave the bloom heads on long enough, the dry out well and then a bit of wind will knock them over into the soil.

Hi Steph: If I lag behind I remind myself I am one person and home maintenance is alot of work. It is truly therapeutic to go outdoors to enjoy nature and work in a garden you put your "all" into. Hard work pays off and your garden is looking beautiful. Your sunflowers are outstanding! I appreciate your comments about disinfecting pruners and know you put down landscape fabric when you are planting to deter weeds. My newly planted daylilies are shooting up some quicker than others but they might not all bloom this year,just deadheaded dasies,hydrangrea looking good and lilac really growing fast. I had ordered pebbles that were darker than expected. Now I realize I should have ordered beach pebbles. They can always be painted and just bought white acrylic spray paint. Thanks for your video and all of your gardening advice! Have a great afternoon1

I very much enjoyed this video. Thank you, for advising people to sanitize their clippers. As I walk through my neighborhood, I've noticed what I believe is Boxwood blight on what were once beautiful boxwoods, and there's Rose rosette disease on roses. I can't help but believe that hired lawncare crews aren't cleaning their equipment between jobs. A good reason to do it yourself, if at all possible. I loved the chocolate cherry sunflowers.

I am coming to the same conclusion that daylillies are just not for me. I don't enjoy them enough to keep them around. I love that you are showing some of your failures as well. Hi Amber, If plants no longer make us happy, its time for them to go. I'm lucky that I can always find someone to gift plants too. I love rehoming plants, and making room for new things that will work better for us and bring us joy. We're all guilty of starting too many seedlings. It happens every year. Don't feel bad. Fingers crossed they are happier in ground.

That is a great swap Debbie! i'm all about adding shrubs for interest and color. Also, they are less maintenance which is a bonus. I'm going to begin on removing my daylilies this week. I have the same birdbath and have painted it with Bilge paint (Amazon) I've given it about 4 coats total in the last few years. I give it a fresh coat in spring before I put it out. Let it dry a few days. It fills in all those groves so the Algae can't get so bad. I don't have to clean it that much and when I do it comes sparkling clean. The paint is Grey but looks Blue on the fountain.

Its there and growing! I'm not sure how I'll like the white in comparison to the pink, but soon enough we'll be able to tell a bit more as the blooms amass. Oh I'm sorry your rubeckia is being attached by snails. Such garden pests. That's great that the neem oil helped. I'm having some trouble with powdery mildew on my fashionable early phlox. I will have to make a note to begin spraying early next season. I also think removing some of the daylilies will improve air flow.

I knew I would be using Dawn to clean it, but didn't know about the other product to help keep clean between washings. I bought the same plant stakes to help support daffodils when they are done and begin to droop out over my sidewalk.... temporary fix to buy them some extra time before cutback. Haven't used them yet, but hoping they are a game-changer.

Hello, I was so happy to see the part when you talked about over wintering your geraniums. I have one and I absolutely love how beautiful it is and just today thought it would be nice if I can keep this one. Now, I do not have a window in the garage. So while over-wintering is sunlight necessary? Your garden is beautiful❤️
@HookedandRooted
@HookedandRooted Жыл бұрын
Hi there! You can definitely overwinter it. The sun I do not believe is necessary as it will be dormant. I just always think I need to place plants by a source of light. However, there are a few different methods to overwinter geraniums. Some people even lift the plants from the soil and place them in a paper grocery bag to store over winter. In a paper bag, they aren't getting light or water, so I don't think its entirely necessary. Just what's worked for me in the past. Give it a go, its fun to experiment. Thank you so much!

@HookedandRooted

I found that as well. I believe its part of the plant being done, and going dormant after blooming. Or it could simply be the heat that ends up crisping up the lower foliage.

I overwintered some of my geraniums in the house also and kept them in their pots but they grew kind of leggy, did you have that problem also and how much can I cut them back? Yours look bushy and beautiful . I’m also considering just to take them out of pots and upside down in paper bags , just to try something different. I just deadheaded my yarrow and the new foliage is fresh and green, I might get a good second flush of blooms . Always enjoying your videos 😊
@HookedandRooted
@HookedandRooted Жыл бұрын
Hi Amy! Yes, mine get leggy too. When I bring them out for the season, I prune them back a bit, take off the leggy stems. I then top them up with a little fresh soil, and feed with a drink of some fish emulsion fertilizer. It gets them going and they begin to fill out. Deadheading is so great for the plants, and really freshens' things up.

@HookedandRooted
@HookedandRooted Жыл бұрын
Hi Mary, I really don't think they do since they are dormant, it just makes me feel better to place plants near light and to occasionally water. Although I've seen people overwinter geraniums bare root in paper grocery bags. In a paper bag they aren't getting water or light and do just fine the follwing season once they are repotted. So there's a few ways of going about it.
