You can also add horse bedding pellets for browns that are lacking. it is fairly cheep and easy to add in if you add a quarter of a cup of pellets to your indoor collection bin it goes straight out into the big bin with the coffee grounds. easy peasy.

I am glad you are foinf to try the beneficial nematodes. I have been using them for years. Especially for the sand fleas. The rest is a plus. I will do it again as soon as I get a chance to go and buy another box. All the rain we had brought out a lot of bugs. Not necessarily from my yard. It flooded so it could have brought them in. In the meantime I got a chicken today to start working the soil as I prep my beds. Check you local nurseries to see if they carry them. Turner's in Corpus carries them.

I had the same problem with a new peach tree I planted this spring. It was full of flowers when I planted it which later turned into fruit. Then the rains came in S. Louisiana. Lost all its fruit and leaves. I fear it may have died. I'll leave it till next spring and see if it will sprout. Our average annual rain amount has already almost been met and we have 5 months left to go.

Talking about rain, we got tons of it lately but then we're mid-winter here. I need to invest in some irrigation for my plants and fruit trees right at the back as I often missed watering them because my current hose doesn't reach that area. It's either irrigation or put a faucet at the back there. I agree the timing is the factor because the method is the same in all zones. But, there are times that you risk it and hope for the best. One year, I grew my mammoth sunflower in my winter. It was my first time growing them and I really want to try. I followed the suggestions from gardeners over there as they were growing them for a competition that year. I tell ya that thing shot up like a rocket LOL People stopped by to ask about it. Give that peach tree a chance to come back. Uproot and put it in a pot to recover. Yes, try planting it on a mound to give it time to develop peripheral roots. When it settles, it will dive through that clay like no one's business LOL. Great video, thank you for sharing. Cheers!

Bro. Scott sent you a number of videos on your Facebook page. Lady used Mittleider minerals in the Sand, and Saw Dust, and in Organic Garden soil. Side by side. On Tomatoes. She decided Mittleider, and organic soil did better. Not that the Sand, and the Saw dust failed by any means.

@@ScottHead I'm going to be using the fertilizer along with the Back To Eden method. This fall, and next year. . Ordered the fertilizer yesterday. I put the wood chips in a garden I planted tomatoes in. It is raised up. So normally dries out fast. This season. You could dig down in the chips. The soil was turning black. And was real moist. Got the chips last Sept after the hurricane blew thru West Louisiana. I just made a windrow. And let them sit. When I got around to moving the chips to the garden in late April. They were full of large earth worms, and you could see black soil had already started to be produced. Wish I would have moved the chips into the garden that fall. Instead of waiting.

Which variety of peach tree did you plant? The one that drowned? I found a method that really gave my peach tree a good start. I planted a Red Baron peach. We built a 3'x3' box, well constructed so it would hold the dirt in place for years. There was no top or bottom, only sides. Placed a couple layers of cardboard down on the ground and placed the box on top. Filled it half way with potting soil and compost, put the depotted tree in the center, and filled the rest of the box with compost and potting soil. This happened in March of 2020. The tree grew all summer fabulously. It weathered the winter, including the Winter storm in February, all without any extra protection. I did prune it in January, favoring the lower limbs and topping the leader to encourage more branching. That tree bloomed it's head off. But I got no fruit, and I think that was because I had no pollinators. Freeze got the wild ones and I had not ordered bees. Next spring I'm getting pollinators going earlier. However, that tree is now easily 3 times the size it was when put into the box last year. I intend to use cement blocks, mortar and perhaps rebar driven into the ground as anchors on the outside of the box this fall to ensure that tree is properly supported and sustained. But it's a very healthy tree now.

I just purchased an Olympead Fig Tree that is already producing figs. It stands about 12-15 inches tall in the store pot. There is a new shoot growing out of the near bottom of the tree. Should I leave it grow or should I prune it to give energy to the figs that are growing? When is it a good time to repot into a larger pot?
@ScottHead3 жыл бұрын
I think I answered this, did you send me a Facebook message? If its a first year fig, yes, go ahead and trim the fruit off, it will help the tree develop a bit better. Re-plant when it is dormant (late winter) and it will never know it was transplanted and you will avoid all transplant shock.

Bene nematodes work well, but you have to be judicious in who you purchase from. Make sure you buy them from a company that sends them in a refrigerated box. Those that come dry are dead and a waste of money. Also, keeping your soil dry is the biggest issue I had in 9b. I’m all containers though so ground soil should be fine. :)

How come I can't turn my cedar wood shaving mulch into the soil but I can let roots compost in place?
@ScottHead3 жыл бұрын
Roots are high in nitrogen, cedar shavings are dry wood cellulose and will bind up nitrogens in the soil as they break down. Cedar is also slightly allelopathic, meaning it has very slight growth inhibiting characteristics.
