Hi Gardening Upbeat! I have a question about my adenium plant. My plant is looking healthy, the leaves are green and the stem looks healthy. However, for many months, the flowers buds have not been able to open. They reach the point where they almost bloom, but then just before the flower opens, it turns brown and falls off. For so many months now, not a single flower has bloomed 😢 Why?

My adenium is blooming now. But it is started to fall the flowers. Is it possible to cut the branch and report in this month i.e September

I pruned them as the rain season had finished, two weeks later it is giving new branches sprouting. I left some branches not pruned, they are in full bloom now. I also fertilized with some granulated manure and NPK fertilizer, the leaves are growing strong.

That's a great news and thank you for sharing your experiences! Here in my place, they are bit difficult to manage as rainfall is really high. In rainy season, we get more than 1 month with continuous rainfall. Adeniums hate such climate :-(

I'm searching for a plant that I can plant in a border behind the golden duranta plant for color contrast of red or purple but it is in shady area so I doubt its red color will be there or not?

They don't need too much direct sunlight but 3-4 hours is needed. For shade, you can also consider growing Purple Heart or Purple Eranthemum..it's a shrub and grows around 3-4 feet tall. I have one in the ground floor. Anyway, there are many other possibilities..such as, you can also consider growing Acalypha, it doesn't need direct sunlight and easy to manage, great for shady area! I saw some videos in which they said you can prune Adenium in 1st week of October. Can we do that? My Adenium is 4 months old and its codex is very thin.

We can do..but I avoid pruning in October as winter is very near and they stop growing in winter. Plus, they also bloom in Oct-Nov. That is why best time is Feb end as they get enough time to grow well. Caudex is very thin? And an out of the box doubt..... I have got 3 very young ixora plants yesterday from local nursery ....can I plant 3 of them together in a 16 inch pot ?

@s.kchakraborty6344, Obviously you can do it if you are not planning to separate them in coming days. However, Ixora is a hardy plant and if you like, you would be able to divide all 3 plants after one year very easily. 3 plants in 3 different colors, would look awesome!

Sir, is it necessary to repot adenium higher than before to get large caudex ?

That's a bit tricky question to answer..actually NO! But, we all grow Adenium because of their beautiful Caudex. When we raise every year (let's say 1/2 to 1 inch), the cuadex which remains under the soil becomes more fuller. By doing the same thing on regular basis, finally we can have a beautiful looking Caudex. I am thinking, my answer is also liking like a big puzzle..he he...no worries, very soon I would upload a detailed video explaining many things. Of course we can...but during the rainy season, we have to be bit careful and would need to spray fungicide at least once in 5-7 days if you prune..thank you and Sir is not required actually!
