Pro tip- use fish during their spawn time. The fish eggs and sperm have a lot of fatty acids and lipids that will take it to the next level.
@charinabottae10 ай бұрын
Apparently you are presumimg those 'ingredients' didn't already exist within the fish before the fish formed the gametes. That makes no sense.
@PeteGA10 ай бұрын
@@charinabottae When the fish is making eggs it has to consume more of those “ingredients” to make the eggs than if the fish is just sustaining itself. Therefore a higher percentage of the overall mass is amino acids. What do you not understand?
@charinabottae10 ай бұрын
@@PeteGA Pete, if that was the case, the op would have said there would be *more* fatty acids and lipids. The clear inference is the presence of something otherwise absence from spawning fish. By your logic, I could simply add more fish to make up the volume of what a spawning fish would consume, and that again renders the op as pointless as it's just about the mass of the fish. What is missing is 1) the op's validation of the "pro" tip as having any data, let alone logic, and 2) your failure to see that.
@PeteGA10 ай бұрын
@@charinabottae A fish without eggs has less lipids and amino acids than a fish full of eggs. What is wrong with you? This isn’t a Reddit forum for you to be a neckbeard “um actually” 🤓 loser on.
@PeteGA10 ай бұрын
@@charinabottae And you know what? You’re just wrong and obviously don’t understand what he said. He said “the fish eggs and sperm have a lot of fatty acids and lipids” that doesn’t mean the fish doesn’t also have fatty acids and lipids. He was just making the point that the eggs and sperm have those “ingredients” at a higher percentage by mass. So no, adding more fish doesn’t give you the same percentage of fatty acids and lipids because eggs and sperm have a higher concentration. Therefore, a batch made with spawning fish will have higher concentrations of fatty acids and lipids. If you’re gonna be an annoying Reddit nerd, at least be technically correct.

Real brown sugar has been rare to extinct where I live, so I now make my own... One cup of organic cane sugar to about 1 1/2 Tbsps. organic unsulfured blackstrap molasses. You can mix by hand... takes a while, or use a stand mixer. I get the sugar from Costco and the molasses from my local health food store. I'm 80 years old this year, and when I first made this a year ago, I was in heaven... this was the brown sugar of my childhood... it is soooo good on oatmeal.
@gardenlikeaviking10 ай бұрын
That sounds wonderful and I wonder if the consistency is about the same? I would just be a little bit concerned it would have to high a moisture content for this extraction process
@garthwunsch73209 ай бұрын

I’m sure there are lots of redheaded “Nates” of Scandinavian decent who are avid, dare I say survivalist gardeners, who have beards and that exact haircut (currently). 😂 You’ve given me good tips. Here’s one for you: zucchino rampacante. It’s a curcubita moschata that grows prolifically, is squash vine borer resistant, produces zucchini-like squash when taken young, and matures into something like butternut squash when left on the vine to harden off. They have that butternut squash hardness and color. They’ll easily grow to over three feet if you’re not careful. Still tastes and cooks like zucchini. I have several hardened off squashes from last year in a closet. Still edible and pretty good, although after almost a year, they’ve gotten a spaghetti squash texture (oh bummer) and have lost some of its flavor. You can completely neglect them, and they’ll still produce long into summer. They are nutritious, too. The ultimate survival garden plant.

I also add semi rotten bananas and papayas to this. It makes the process fast and to make the fertilizer more potent. Also the next time when you prepare it you can add a little bit of sludge from the previous preparation. We use the fish waste that we get in the market so the only cost that this fertilizer incurs is the cost of brown sugar. Fish waste, waste bananas and papaya are things that people throw away because they are going to rotten in a while. By the way the results are fabulous. Personally for me it was super successful because my father who never gets into these organic stuffs started loving it.

I am from Southern India the climate is humid and a bit hot. For us we always maintain the whole solution in the shade. One of the challenges that some people face is that there can be flies that can lay eggs on the solution and the whole solution may not be as potent and good as it is intended to be. So keeping it in a closed environment works for us.

This weekend I am getting mulch from a client after doing drywall and landscaping. He is also teaching me how to clean his pond which I can have as much of the pond gold that I would like. Hi Nate.... and everybody else who has tried this FAA: Has anybody tried this? I tried 2 small batches, and Oh Boy was it ever MESSY to strain out the liquid... the second was worse than the first... (I made a mistake with the first one...) I kept thinking there must be a better way. So this is my suggestion: first insert the fine mesh strainer/paint strainer inside the container you are going to use, then add the fish and brown sugar mixture as usual. After 1 or 2 months or whatever, gather the mesh strainer and lift it up and out of the container. Pour out the FAA into a separate container. Put the mesh back to continue the process. This sounds a more proficient method in theory. I am going to try this next.

The best type of fish for making organic fertilizer is sardines. I saw a farm in Saudi Arabia using this method .. 1 kg sardines + 1 kg white sugar + a small cup of lactobacillus bacteria (you can make these bacteria at home).. Regular fish fertilizer must be added with iron fertilizer because the percentage of iron in it is low, but sardine fertilizer has a high percentage of iron.
@ronquando30882 ай бұрын
This is actually good info. I’ve been doing some research on different types of fish and found that overall sardines are probably the best all around because they are high in everything. Omega 3, N, P, they have decent K as well all the micros. But they are specifically higher in P than most other fish and fatty acids and also some micros. As you mentioned iron.

@@gardenlikeaviking Thank you very much for answering. I am watching many videos on your channel. I congratulate you. I have been implementing the Jadam method for months and the truth is that it is good, but I think that is one of its problems. For this reason I believe and think that worm castings and liquid worm castings, since I don't have this problem, are one of the best. I would like to know what you think about this. I will try to make this fish fertilizer, do you think? Could it be made with visors if I don't have the whole fish? I also think that the best thing about the Jadam method is the microbial solution combined with liquid worm castings that does not produce an odor. It has to go well. I am starting to use this mixture without forgetting the solid fertilizer or compost to improve the soil. I would like to know your opinion on the matter. greetings and very good channel

How does this work with hydroponics? Can I use fish guts also?

OK..... I have questions.... I started my FAA 9 days ago, when I opened the barrel for the first time in a week, I noticed some great things happening. First, no bad smell, smelled like apple juice... A lot of foam, and even with a thick 3 to 4 inch layer of Brown Sugar on top, there were a couple fish heads sticking up with a little mold on top, white bold so Im thinking now a problem. I stired the top up a little to get the fish heads below the surface which did nothing but bring more fish heads to the surface. Does this stuff ever need to get steered up during the process? If so, how often? It's very thick, like Molasses thick. should I add a gallon of water to the mix with a cup of LABs mixed in? My thinking is this would give more juice to bury the fish heads sticking up out of the mix, and thin the really thick liquid down to make it more manageable, specially when the time comes in 6 months to filter this.

I recite that phrase everytime I stir my fertilizer buckets.

This is a great video. Well done and thank you. I have a quick question. I have a comercial meat grinder would it help to run the fish and maybe the sugar through the grinder together to get a better mix?

not for this brew it will not be helpful... this is a slow digestion and we want it that way... everything in here will totally liquify on its own except a handful of bones.... if you want to use the grinder watch my video on fish hydrolysate and use the grinder and it takes only two weeks!
