Dugtrio has invaded my home. I heard digging from my closet and opened it to see the Mole had grown cylindrical, I tried to run but I could not see due to the sand attack. I cried "this is insane!" As the magnet pull gardevoir trapped me, boosting to +4 and killing me instantly.

Sturdy doesn’t work that way in Gen 3 [or 4]. Sturdy only stops you from being knocked out by OHKO moves like Fissure, Sheer Cold etc. It doesn’t give you a Focus Sash effect until Gen 5. The is insane 😖

This is why you should run Sturdy on Magneton instead of Magnet Pull. You can still trap Skarmory with a Sturdy Magneton, because everyone will just assume you have Magnet Pull, so nobody will even try to switch out a Skarmory against your Magneton. Sturdy Magneton has the advantage that it can't be trapped by Guardevoir.

this team pretty perfectly demonstrates how horrific of an idea it is to have any kind of specific game plan in gen 3. yes jim won game two but he did that through significantly outplaying with a terrible matchup, and most anti meta or counter teams like this are extremely matchup dependant or gimmicky. i've been experimenting a lot recently and from my experience having any kind of unique offensive structure just makes you really weak to hax even if the matchup is good. early gen crit chance, widespread status inflicting moves and low accuracy are brutal if you don't have the standard defensive cores, which is one of my few complaints with gen 3. you load up your cool team idea, then get one bad crit or status on a defensive mon or miss a crucial fire blast and the game is over

Pory 2 can do this yes - trace arena trap and then you spam recover until they're out of EQ PP and then you ice beam. gard can't do it, too slow and frail.
