I mean it depends on what you use your laptop for... it's kind of hard to use it for work, or during commute without keyboard and larger screen. But I mean, if you use your laptop primarily for gaming on the go, it definitely is. :)

@@PixelShade at the price of a Steamdeck, I don't think a laptop is really worth it unless you somehow find a refurbished laptop with higher specs. To me, a decent laptop starts at around $1000 and even then the keyboard sucks anyways. In my case, then, I would use the SD until I can afford a better system

A tablet with a flat keyboard makes a nice replacement for a laptop especially Samsung with Dex mode. I'd use this for gaming.

@@PixelShade not really. It has on screen touch keyboard, that you can also use the touchpads on the side to write with (which is really intuitive). But you can also use bluetooth to hook up a keyboard if that is important to your work flow. I thought the same as you before getting one. And honestly wish we were right. Cause now i sometimes end up on youtube comments or reddit instead of just putting on a movie when i go to bed xD

yes i use my laptop for work i dont imagine using the steam deck with a keyboard at least i pay for another screen at least 240hz ultrawide for a deck / ally because working in that little screen.. idk@@PixelShade

The subtle differences from the color of the logo to the power button is a great way to make a differentiation between the two models while retaining the same overall look. Very tasteful cosmetic changes.

i bought the cheap model when it was on sale. And i'm glad i did. Still gonna get the OLED version, but while i save up and make ready for it, i'll enjoy my 64gb version with 500gb MicroSD card filled up with games :P Also, apparently, us that bought the 64gb version now have a limited edition without it even being sold as a limited edition ;)

@@Chrisssss45 Anti cheat is on the devs to fix not much valve can do besides somehow entice them to update their anti cheat to work on linux bases systems. Some of them are pretty vocal about not supporting the steam deck like Epic because they're direct competitors. Others like bungie are just fking lazy, hopefully now that Sony owns them things will change

The meny being darker does also make sense from battery life perspective since OLED can actually turn off pixels where LCD will always have full screen backlight.

My understanding is that unless the color is pure black (hex code #000000) then the pixel will still light up. So I doubt battery life will improve significantly in the menus unless Valve makes an OLED skin.

​​​@@AndorskiOLED is far and away more efficient. The entire system uses 27 watts instead of 32 at full tilt partially due to that. OLED has power benefits because of its per pixel dimming basis, not only when the color is fully black. If you can light up each individual pixel the exact amount it needs instead of the whole screen becoming bright at once, then it's naturally more efficient. But the technology itself is just generationally more efficient. That's why it has 30-50% battery life improvements, combined with the faster RAM (which improves battery confirmed by valve), node shrink on the APU, and the 25% bigger battery. Essentially, you don't need #000000 to benefit battery life, though it is even more helpful to turn pixels completely off when possible.

I managed to slip off the paper sleeve around the outer packaging without tearing it when I first got my Deck. You just have to fold the fabric case handle under the handle's cutout and carefully slide it away from the zippers.

The Steam Deck OLED is such a nice UX improvement over the LCD Steam Deck; it's tempting to sell my LCD Steam Deck and go in for the OLED model, but I'm happy with my Steam Deck and will be waiting for the Steam Deck 2. I think that of the best things to come of this revision is the significant price drops on the LCD models. This will make it much more accessible to those who may have still been on the fence if price was a deciding factor for them.

Some of the things your seeing from the ui is from steamOS preview branch. Bloom effect also looks amazing on og deck. The color profile is incorrect they set to default. It should be 6500k white balance to do white instead of the 7500k they have.

Doom Eternal has an FSR2 mod which hijacks the DLSS pipeline. It's incredible how good that game looks even with silly low resolutions like 400p (FSR Performance). I guess it has to do with Doom Eternal mostly using "thick" geometry causing no apparent shimmering. I wouldn't be surprised if you can get it to 90fps. unless there's a memory bottleneck or something. :) also, FSR does help out RT performance A LOT, although I think it should be left off for most users anyway. :)

7:15 more responsiveness on oled version is caused by +30Hz screen upgrade (60Hz->90Hz) so everything will fill more smoothly and responsive

I'm definitely going with the glossy model. My wife never once asked what's that sound when I was on the deck. My GPD WIN2 however... "can you turn that noise off?" "can you sit somewhere else with that noise" So having a deck that's more quiet than a deck is of course fantastic. I am not saying that the deck is quiet, but usually the fan noise is drowned out by other noises, and when it does make too much noise I just change the settings, but I really seldomly have to.

I did this with my 1TB SSD after having to RMA my first unit that had the "stuck at 200mhz" issue. Haven't had a single issue with that in the months since. I don't forsee this being an issue with the new revision either but I'm sure someone will try this and post on either here or Reddit.

@@felixplace2 So I just did it myself and it's seamless. You just swap the SSDs like normal and they'll both just boot up like nothing. No need to use the recovery image or anything.

hydrogen peroxide. not sure if it is good for the joysticks, but it seems to clean it off and gets rid of that white film from my fingers that remain on the sticks. I just put a bit on a q-tip and carefully clean the tops of the joysticks.

i don't think Valve would do that. 15w is a sweet spot for hand helds and SBC's. If they changed the charger. They could end up with people who bought the original design getting the wrong power cord send to them and ruin their steam deck on valves behalf. Leaving valve with no other option than sending them a replacement steam deck. And usually valve is okay with that. But i still think they want to avoid causing a need for replacement.

I’m confused I’m not on about charging the steam deck, I’m saying we are currently limited to 15w tdp when gaming but if we were able to raise that to 16w or 18w even that would give better performance? I’m not sure what charging it up has to do that with that the ally can go up to 30w but at the cost of battery life how long you get to play

You are looking at a video taken on a camera, that is compressed by KZbin, and being played back on what ever display you are watching on. The etched glass is the last thing that would be causing the screen to look worse.

I think that Valve releasing this oled model is brilliantly smart, but owning a know oled I’m not blindsided easily but oled, it’s still 800p with old hardware that’s dying out fast, just look at spyro lol stutterfest. The deck is a cool piece of hardware but it isn’t going to hold out for the games that are coming this year and beyond the next deck will be the one to buy, this is novelty

And I was happy to do that for the first year I owned my deck it was magical, but now I want more power even if I get 40-50 fps low settings handheld on legion go I’m very happy with that, steamdeck is basically the Nintendo switch oled it’s a smart release very cool, but it’s outdated

@@OTDECK not this again. The deck isn't outdated. For AAA titles you're looking at 30fps, which was the case when it came out. Stargate is an awfully optimised game. On a 4070TI it can still cause issues FFS. Returnal is the same. There's a lot of poorly optimised games around at the moment. Now if you want 60fps on a handheld you're still mostly talking about 720p even on the newer ones otherwise at 1080P you're looking at 30fps to 50fps. Doom Eternal running at near 40fps with RT on at 720p and nightmare settings tells you the Decks H/W isn't the problem.

The analog sticks are noticeably more inset. Meaning your thumb sits deeper inside the cap. In that way it feels better than the previous analog sticks
