Thanks for this review. I saw this advertised on another website months ago, and hadn't purchased the planter. However, with the way things are going in the American economy, if you eat lots of vegetables, this will be a great investment for your health; along with being prepared for unexpected things that will transpire in this country. I did purchase the unit today and once I get it, will follow you to see if you might be selling any items from the company. Thanks a million.

Very nice video, thank you for making this. You didn't mention anything about the plant food. Do they send it to you? Is it a separate purchase? Is the plant food organic????? I do like this set up better than the Grow Tower because of space but it's concerning that your plants did get so yellow. This is now the end of May could you post an update and let us know how it's working out or not?

Thank you! Appreciate your comment! Yes, they do provide plant food and you can add it to your monthly shipment in place of one of the seed cubes, if you wish to do the membership. And yes, plant food comes with your Gardyn. :). Also the plant food is made out of Magnesium, potassium, etc... When I asked Gardyn about their plant food, in regards to being organic, this is their reply "The plant food is... mineral! It is actually composed of salts to provide the plant with all the minerals it needs: calcium, magnesium, potassium, etc..." Also, after they helped me with my yellowing plants, I saw almost immediate results of new leaves coming in green instead of yellow. Hope this answers your questions. Be well -Essi

Thank you for making this! I just bought a gardyn and was not aware that you needed to germinate your seeds beforehand. Did you water the pods at all before putting them in the tray with 1/4 an inch of water? Also, how long did it take for your pods to germinate?
@EssiFlynn
@EssiFlynn 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words and for stopping by! Germination of seeds when you first purchase your Gardyn can take place with placing the YCubes right in the Gardyn, since you will not be adding plant food until later. It is after you get your initial seeds up and going that you will need to germinate in a tray. I've been using Pyrex glass bowls for months and they seem to do ok. I am about to place an order for their new germination tray that they just announced today. I am curious to see if it helps. I like the design from what I can tell in the photos, but it comes at a bit of a steep price. So we shall see. I did not water the pods before sticking them in the bowl or tray. I would be curious to see if that would make a difference, but the rock wool, seems to be quite good at pulling the water up to the seeds. Time for germination will vary on several different factors. First of all, the type of seed (herbs and fruiting plants seem to take longer to sprout) and humidity and temperature. Hope this answers your questions. So excited for your new growing adventure! Be well, Essi💕

Thank you for your review. I am very intrigued by this unit. The big question I have is what kind of noise does it make? A few years ago a neighbor had a different system and it had a constant running water sound that just echoed through the house. I have hearing issues and constant repetitive noises even from another room grate my nerves and make it hard for me to hear other things. Thanks again for you information.

You are welcome and thank you for your question. I was concerned about the noise as well. Honestly, the noise is so quiet that I had a hard time getting my camera to pick up the noise for a friend to hear, when I shot a short video. My plants are very happy right now and it only waters 3 times a day for 5 minutes each time. Hope this helps answer your question. Be well, Essi

I just ordered my gardyn today after thinking about it for two months. Thanks for the heads up in the tray! I’ll be sure to give that a try! I’d also like to ask about the membership. I’m single and the idea of getting 10 cubes per month seems like overkill. I saw below you said that you hadn’t replaced any cubes yet. It’s that still the case? I’m afraid I’m going to have just piles and piles of cubes I can’t get to fast enough.
@EssiFlynn
@EssiFlynn 4 жыл бұрын
So glad to be of help! Yes, I have replaced quite a few cubes, but only because I overwatered many of my first batch and they never sprouted. I actually did the membership to stock up on cubes, so that I will not have to pay full price, once my membership is up. But I have to say that from my understanding, you don't get the assistance of the constant monitoring of your Gardyn with Kelby without the membership. This might not be an issue for someone with a green thumb in Hydroponics, but for me it was a definite must! My failures have been turned into yummy amazing food! And I might add, knowledge for future growing in Hydroponics! Hope this answers your questions. Be well, Essi

I saw that Strawberries are coming soon but was hoping Raspberries, Blackberries etc. Thank you!

Thank you so much! We eat off of our Gardyn daily and sometimes several times a day! It's quite the symbiotic relationship. If you are on Instagram, you can check out some of the photos of our greens on our food there. Right now they only have Strawberries in the works. It's funny you should mention other berries, because I was thinking about that very thing earlier today and wondering what sort of hydroponics system would be best for both Raspberries and Blueberries as they are so different from Strawberries and bush like with quite the root system. Definitely an interesting question to research. Hope this answers your questions. And thanks again for your kind words. Be well, Essi

Essi Flynn yes it’s very helpful, thank you, and I will check out your Instagram. If I could grow all the berries in addition to the greens, it would more than payoff in what I wouldn’t have to spend at the grocery store each month because I buy all that organic each week. I also thought about getting the empty ycubes and doing my own berry seeds but I’ll have to do more research to see if I can pull it off and then I can consider buying this system. I read blueberries are tricky...thanks again!

Did you notice a significant increase in your electric bill? about how many hours a day is the light on and does the app tell you where each pod needs to be placed, or you have the option to place them wherever you'd like?
@EssiFlynn
@EssiFlynn 4 жыл бұрын
I haven't noticed a difference, but I haven't paid that much attention to it honestly. Right now, my lighting schedule is on about 20 hours a day. At first it doesn't matter where you place your YCubes, but as things grow, Kelby (the Gardyn App) will recommend that you move things around (which is very easy to do), to make sure small plants are placed closer to larger plants and even recommend that some plants (such as peppers and tomatoes) are placed closer to the grow lights. Hope this answers your questions. Be well, Essi

Thank you for this video. I wanted to buy one, but since I saw how hard it is to watch the entire system, I have changed my mine... you have to dissemble the entire unit to wash it every 5-6 months.... How sad I was to learn that. I hope everything will go well for you.
@EssiFlynn
@EssiFlynn 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The deep cleaning process is a bit of an inconvenience and it is every six months. However that did not prevent me from purchasing a second unit. I know that the company is constantly working on improving their product and are very open to taking customer feedback as they continue to improve. Something I have learned along the way is that preventative cleaning seems to really helpful, to make the twice a year cleaning easier. In the end, it's a lot less work than I would be doing with a typical raised bed garden like I used to have, so I write it off that way. I know that some folks are experimenting with uv (aquarium) lights in the tank to help cut down on algae growth, while others are excited about using a water pic for regular upkeep. I cannot confirm that either of these methods have been able to keep them from having to do the regular 6 month cleaning, but I do know that the company has said that they are looking into these options to see if they could recommend them to their customers. So stay tuned. Hope this helps answer your question. Thanks for stopping by. Be well, Essi

I do have one question though that I'd love your insight on: Has/Does the Gardyn attract pests into your home? Thank you for your kind words! So glad to be of help! And yes, I've had to deal with a few, but my best answer is that the second you notice an issue, you contact Kelby. The membership is worth it, so many times over! Kelby has been there for me, with each and every problem and I've also noticed that different folks have different issues, based off of where they live or even the placement of their Gardyn from their home, to a sunroom etc. So having Kelby there is just awesome! Hi! Great review 👍🏽 not sure if you know or if anyone here in the comments does, I don't have a garden yet or a green thumb, but have been preparing to start a regular, non-hydroponic system garden and wonder if it would be possible to transplant termed plants from a Gardyn into a garden-garden lol. It seems like this would make room for me to plant new yPods. Otherwise, when do you switch out the yPods and how long do new, unused yPods keep?
@EssiFlynn
@EssiFlynn 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I wouldn't recommend moving plants from the YCubes to your traditional garden, it would be much easier to just start with seed. So far I have only had to switch out YCubes because I overwatered in the beginning and some of my seeds rotted. I began this adventure at the end of March 2020. So, here we are in July and haven't switched them out yet. I don't know how long the unused YCubes are good for, but I store seeds for and from my garden for years, so I would imagine it would be similar, but don't quote me on that, as I have not asked this specific question from the company. Hope this helps answer your questions. Be well, Essi

How do I know they are watching me with them cameras?! That’s sketchy
@EssiFlynn
@EssiFlynn 3 жыл бұрын
Great question! This is one I had at the beginning as well. The two cameras are positioned in a way that they can only view the Gardyn towers. They are looking the same way the lights are. And because the lights are so bright, you will want them facing a wall or a corner, thus the cameras will be facing that way as well, so there's no way they will be able to view anything else. Unlike shall we say the camera on my laptop that is always facing me when my computer is open. 😉 Hope this helps answer your question. Thanks so much for stopping by. Be well, Essi

@EssiFlynn
@EssiFlynn 4 жыл бұрын
So as I mentioned below, I have only a family of three and it is more than plenty for all three of us to eat off of it several times a day. It really depends on the size of your family. We are not buying any greens from the grocery store right now. Also, it is super quiet. The only time it makes any noise is when the watering system kicks in and it is so quiet, you really have to get super close to hear the slight trickle of water inside the pipes. Different plants require different lighting, nutrient strength, and ph. How does this work?
@EssiFlynn
@EssiFlynn 3 жыл бұрын
Great question! All of the seeds that Gardyn has available do just fine growing in this particular set up with the amount of nutrients and lighting on the system. However, Kelby is really great, because as things like (Peppers for instance) begin to take off, Kelby will recommend certain areas of placement for lighting, due to some things, needing more light than others, etc.. Hope this answers your question. Be well, Essi

Did you purchase the membership with your unit? Is it still simple without the membership?
@EssiFlynn
@EssiFlynn 3 жыл бұрын
I did a 2 year membership with my unit. I was a first time user of both this unit and hydroponics in general. For me, the membership was definitely worth it. Not only do they help me troubleshoot any issues with plants, pests, growth, etc, but they help keep me on track with scheduling cleanings, water changes and adding water and food. These are things that I wanted help with in the beginning. The other thing that will probably keep me doing a membership is that you get 10 YCubes that you pick out each month as part of the membership. Any extra after that is $1.99, however without the membership those YCubes would cost $4.99 each. Plus with the membership, I get free shipping on that monthly order. If I ever get a 3D printer, I might consider printing my own YCubes and purchasing my own rockwool and food, but I'm not there yet. The convenience is still worth the membership for me. Great question! I actually had to reach out to Gardyn to answer this question due to the fact that I haven’t had any issues with my lights over the past year plus with my Gardyn. Here is the response I received from the Gardyn support team. “If you experience any issues in regards to your system's lights during the warranty period (12 months from the date of original delivery) know that we are happy to replace these on their behalf free of charge. The replacement process is fairly seamless. In general, the lights are expected to last 50,000 hours. This would be over 5 years of continuous use but normal use patterns of 16 hours/day would yield 8.5 years on average.” Hope this answers your question. Thanks so much for stopping by. Be well, Essi
