downside to garens passive is, that its completely useless in combat and doesnt provide any combat sustain that most other bruisers healing mechanics give. due to how he locks himself out of auto attacking during his spin, lifesteal is also not very good on him. so since physical vamp and omni vamp has been removed, garen simply doesnt have viable combat sustain mechanics. this is why a lot of other melee bruises beat him in extended trades. also because of his passive his early game trades are kindof tilted towards his opponents. he often is expected to lose lane trades because he can "just heal it up". in reality garens passive gets outperformed by other sustain mechanics like renekton q. by the time garens passive even activates, renekton hit an empowered q on the wave and healed a big chunk of health, while garen is just starting to heal up for example. his waveclear is indeed exceptional, but he needs something that sets him apart from other fighters and gives a team a reason to have a garen instead of any other bruiser.

Anti heal is good into matchups like Nasus, dr. mundo, Renekton, sylas, or really anyone that can heal a bunch or gain a bunch of bonus health to avoid Garen’s execute.

indeed garen wasnt made for long trades. However your analysis fails to consider that you dont need to be able to endure extended 1x1 fights to win lanes. With Garen I just Q + E, spending half the E near the silenced oponent and the other half getting out of range. After two or three Q+Es the opponent is usually low enough to be killed through flash+QE+ignite before lvl 6. Or QAAER

thr only weakness that annoys me in Garen is its uselessness against ranged champs, there's no gap closers in his set. So I just need to accept being bullied under my turret until lane phase ends

His passive kinda helps in a sense that his trade is his E which is almost an all in except he disengages with Q, most likely you both trade half health and you can heal back with passive

On Garen i prefer a phase rush rune, cause in teamfights it's much more usefull, and it makes hard matchups easier, cause u have nice tool to disengage. Or u can kill the enemy very fast and just run away before his teammates can catch you, like it was on 14:59 in this game, it's very good on splitpush too. But conqueror is very nice in easy matchups, and when enemy team have 2-3 melee champs. Actually Phase Rush or Conqueror depends of your playstile, for example i sometimes love to max my Q first and buying Bami's Cinder so i have Q movespeed, phys+mag AOE dmg, and i very easy procing phase rush (the same as with tiamat)

I recently started the game and I don't have enough skill to use phase rush. I'd say conq is a safe option for noobs

@@dragosd8992 u just need to learn how use it, and it will be even safer, cause u can do very short trades and run away. U just need to use Auto > Q > E, or Q > Tiamat > E. or u can buy bami's cinder and just do Q > E. but the last one is good only for laning, cause u will proc it instantly - sometimes when u don't need it - for example when u wan't just Q+E the enemy, then use ur Tiamat/Stridebreaker or ult and just run away with a phase rush. And think u should watch some good Garen players like Riste - he always explaining every move he did on his streams or in the videos

Is it still better to take stride breaker over tri force in melee matchups? I do tri force into melee matchups cause I always thought it had better stats since I don’t need the slow to gap close but idk

idk man. my perferred build is still stride, pd, into either steraks or into triforce. i dont see why you have to chose between stride and triforce in specific when these items both have different functions. it usually depends on enemy teamcomp and if im ahead in lane. do i need tenacity and anti-burst? then its steraks. am i ahead and snowballing and cc isnt a big deal? then triforce and steraks after.

@@Stone7C1 well there's 2 ways ive been trying depending on match up. the old tride builds work. But if you go Berzerkers, phantom, infinity edge you can snowball hard af

triforce very good for splitpush, but it's optional item and buy it or not - depends of your playstile, but for example Stridebreaker + PD deals more dmg and giving you more movespeed, but with triforce u deleting towers very fast. Or when the enemy team have a lot of melee champs u can buy Triforce + CDR boots + Blackcleaver + Spear of shojin + steraks and u will have very short CD on your Q and W which in some situations can be better than spin-spin-spin and u need use CDR runes with this build

Voli is disgustingly underrated , he’s like Jax where even if hes losing you can still kill the enemy lol , if you learn how to W people properly , you can get them to half health then E , Q flash and W 2 will one shot people

Play Renekton or Camille, always go for short trade and then disengage, don't let him hit you three times as that will activate his aura, sidestep his pull and hammer. Mordekaiser can't do anything against this.
