Look like many YT street guys is doing street photography right now in Istanbul, but they really don't know where to take images in that huge city. Eduardo is home there. He feels the vibe of the city, knows the light and most importantly he has the eyes and composition skills for street photography with people involved. Good to see you back Gareth!

Istanbul can be very overwhelming at the beginning, there's so much going on everywhere that It is hard to focus on one section or portion of a place/scene. They will have thousands of good shots eventually, I believe. Nonetheless, most of the British photographers I have seen and met have a more aesthetic approach than me. They usually use the human element more as a punctuation or element to give the sense of scale. Different styles, I would say only.

Lately I've been trying to understand Eduardo's work. He keeps repeating "figure-ground relationship". It turns out to be a term in the Gerstalt pschology. In the image with the red dressed lady, the group of guys and the lady are "figures" distinguished from the "ground" by the light of the sun. Meanwhile, the group of guys are "proxiemating" with each other and become one object. The lady is obviously the other. In addition, "similarity" connects the two objects, since one guy is also wearing reddish. Within the guys, they are looking in different directions, so they are in different sub-groups ("common fate"). One group is looking towards the lady and makes another connection of the two objects. That is why this picture is visually quite astonishing.

Worth playing a few times to catch the key points of how Eduardo captures layered street images. Challenging method, needs much practice and spacial awareness, along w/lens capabilities, part of your second nature. Vid depicted way too many other photographers at the venue - detracted from the effort, IMO.

Why not change the distracting background elements from red to another colour? The fact that it was dyed red was arbitrary.
@daveincork2 жыл бұрын
presume Eduardo doesn't want to change colours as he has a keen interest in documentary photography so would likely just adjust hues and not change the image too drastically.
@j_a_lee2 жыл бұрын
@@daveincork Fair enough. It's not mentioned, but I wonder if he ever considers leaving things in that are 'distracting'? It seems to me that if he's documenting anything specific then it's the mystery to the situations. There's obviously things going on, but the stories are unclear. I thought the red leg in one of the later shots enhances that sense of mystery with a certain oddness. But I appreciate that photographers tend to like things neat, geometric and closed off rather than, say, how artists often have an open and chancy approach.
@eortizfoto2 жыл бұрын
@@j_a_lee hey there! I think that it really depends on your goal as photographer. In my case, I want to document life as "real" as possible, I don't do any heavy editing, changes colours heavily, nor remove people from scenes. For me, a good picture is done on camera. As I include many elements in my scenes, I feel that I have to make sure that my scenes are also easy to read (sort of organizing the chaos). So, If I include mystery in a shot. It has to deliberate and not by mistake.
