Din Tai Fung is my favorite for dumplings. Everything I've had there was delicious (seriously!) and those chocolate dumplings are pure heaven! Years ago, I read a detective novel set in Taipei. The main character had a meal at the Din Tai Fung there, and described the food in detail. I was so jealous. Never imagined two of those restaurants would eventually open close to me, here in Los Angeles. I now eat at one of them regularly. There's some other wonderful dim sum houses close to where I live. We have one of the biggest Chinese American communities in the U.S. nearby (in the San Gabriel Valley), which brings me great joy.

Great video with some good spots. Next time you are on Convoy check out "Tasty Noodle House." For me they make the best dumplings in San Diego and are so much better than Don Tai Fung.

Yooo you did a dumpling tour of SD and you never went to Dumplings N more in Hillcrest! Super authentic dumps, and it's a family run operation. Def check it out, get the soup dumps and the spicy wontons.

Din Tai Fung is the gold standard for xiao long bao, my favorite dumplings, but I love Dumpling Inn/Shanghai Saloon because they have great craft beers on tap to wash them down. Solid whiskey selection as well.

I was in Japan in 2019 and had soup dumplings for the first time. It has been so hard to find a restaurant that makes soup dumplings. I definitely will be checking out some of these restaurants

There are dumplings that use rice flour. Plus there are many dim sum items that use no wheat. Many Asian supermarkets have frozen dumplings and they list the ingredients in the package

Used to like Dumpling Inn, but one time I took my family of 8 from Escondido, 45 minutes before closing and they wouldn't seat us. We expressed how far we drove and the owner still turned us away. Never again.
