@AMTProductionCo I doubt it would have been an oversight drafting a contract; it wasn't the first one MGM wrote and Jack Haley was quite a star a time they would have wanted him out promoting it. He did as much promoting of The Wizard of Oz both in print and in person as he could. He was at the premier in NYC and LA. It was very difficult to shoot with the make-up, costume, singing, dancing, excruciatingly long hours of constant standing around all day-while he was still busy writing and staring in his own radio show. He never liked making movies as a rule and preferred stage much more but he has stated several times throughout the years ‘The Wizard of Oz’ was very near and dear to his heart even though he had made over 45+ films in his career. He and Bolger said being eternally known for Oz was a good thing.

Could have been, it could have also been an oversight when they were making out his contract to include any other publicity, because he never did any. Bert, Judy, and Ray (who were all under contract to MGM, Jack was on loan from Fox) made appearances live on stage before screenings of the film, Jack was never present at those. Jack was not very keen on the film. It was excruciatingly tough for him to make, and to him it was just another picture.
