Garland Rawhide Hammer Restoration

In this video I will restore a Garland Rawhide Hammer to a usable condition. The Garland Manufacturing Company was established in 1866. They use water buffalo rawhide to make their Garland Rawhide Hammers. This Garland Rawhide Hammer lived an abused life. Garland Rawhide Hammers have many purposes. In my shop they are used to strike leather working tools and stamps. This allows a “dead blow” hammer use on stamping tools. The rawhide will also prevent damage to the tools. This 16oz Garland Rawhide Hammer is a good addition to my collection and was a gift from a friend. I normally use a maul but had wanted to try out the hammer. This restoration will allow me to test it out and decide. The poor condition of the Garland Rawhide Hammer was concerning as it would scratch leather if it is set down in the wrong place. Thanks. I have always wanted a 1 pound Garland. They are history. The company started in 1866. The Rawhide hammer is at least 50 years old.

Lol. Maybe. I do notice some “ticks” when I do the editing that I do not know I do. Must be interesting to live around that.
