Some of the fruits he's eaten that are high in oxalic acid cause burning of the lips, mouth and throat if too acidic. The body will change the oxalic acid from those same fruits into calcium oxalate, which cannot be broken down, but forms kidney stones.

It IS a secret to longevity. Garlic is the best natural antibiotic, along with many other health benefits. The allicin in garlic is destroyed by heat, so to preserve the antibiotic property in particular, it should be raw. So modern science confirms the ancient health practice of raw garlic in cleansing and nourishing the body. I add it to the blender. Or you could mince it on salad with dressing like oil and vinegar. I once met a girl from Africa who would mince raw garlic, stirred in olive oil, and add it as a raw topping after cooking a pizza. The olive oil should also be raw and thus cold-pressed. Anyway, don't eat for short term rewards, eat for long term rewards of overall good health. Listen to the wisdom of your elders!

I'm with you 100%, these are actually pretty good in my opinion as well, despite people saying they're trash. Sweet, but mild, with a hint of allium style funk. I'm planting seeds now to try and grow some. It's a pretty tree, tho most garcinias are.

Garlic is a very strong flavor, so it's surprising to me that this fruit is so mild.

Hey Jared. All the old-timers in my family (from the country), always talked about a nut called a Chinquapin. I don’t know the botanical name for it, but they described it as being like a miniature Chesnut. Thanks to the Chestnut blight, all of the American Chestnuts were unfortunately eradicated in the ‘30’s and ‘40’s, so I am wondering if that is why it seems to be so elusive. I have searched the woods every season where my relatives said that they used to be abundant to no avail. Maybe Chestnut blight wiped them out as well? I don’t know. Has anyone blessed you with a sample. I don’t see where you have ever done a video on it and I was just seeing if you have. Thank You, Mark
@StonedtotheBones133 жыл бұрын
From a quick google and Wikipedia:"Allegheny chinquapin, however, is less susceptible to the chestnut blight fungus that devastated the American chestnut. While the chinquapin does blight to some degree, it continues to send out suckers that will produce fruit. Chinquapins are quite vulnerable nevertheless, and there are many reports of heavily diseased and cankered trees." I'd look more at wiki about its usual habitat. You may still be able to find some, although possibly not where your relatives said. It also looks a bit different from a chestnut
@markmcknight24673 жыл бұрын
@@StonedtotheBones13 FINALLY! Somebody actually responded! Thank you very much. So I guessed right that the blight kind of took it out as well. That makes me realize that I should probably give up on ever tasting or even seeing a chinquapin forever. Wow. Oh well, I still dream about it. I remember when I was little playing under the LAST American Chestnut 🌰 in our area. As I remember, it was huge and bore bushels of sweet yellow chestnuts. Oh how I loved them. I always wondered why one year that thing just dropped all of its leaves, then the next year it flushed out small leaves that dropped, then it was over. I grew up to get a Master’s in Horticulture from Auburn University and then ALL OF MY QUESTIONS WERE ANSWERED, with the exception of the Chinquapin. Anyway, I do appreciate you taking the time to respond. That was really sweet of you. Thanks
@majorpecan25263 жыл бұрын
@@markmcknight2467 So it looks like on the East Coast, you get a Chinquapin chestnut (Castanea pumila) and a Chinquapin oak(Quercus muehlenbergii), here on the West Coast there's a Golden Chinquapin (Chrysolepis chrysophylla), and in Asia there's another group of Chinquapins (Castanopsis) distantly related to the West Coast one.

I always wanted to order from Miami fruit, but I’m broke and can’t pay 80+ dollars for a variety box.
@ashleysanchez11637 жыл бұрын
Hawk Sidewinder Haha, I wish I could do that. I don’t know why it’s so expensive. It’s not like the price includes shipping, because that is another additional $23. It’s ridiculous. The total price for me, for a variety box with shipping would be $100. I can’t work because of my health conditions, so I could never afford that.
@morafarms7 жыл бұрын
Miami Fruit is indeed expensive, but the specific boxes are worth it if you really want to know what a fruit tastes like and have no other access to it. I've never gotten the variety boxes, just the specific ones. Often they're less than 80 per box when it's a rare smaller sample of fruit.
