Not sure how they can justify that price even for the base model mk3, 43mm. I own the mk2s and it just feels like it can already do everything this new one can except for an OLED screen.

The AMOLED is very nice. I’m hoping to get my hands on one for a comparison video some time soon, if I can convince Garmin to send me them! The diver to diver messaging is super cool, but everyone will need Mk3i’s and the T2 transceivers so like you said, very high cost investment to do that. I’ll share the feedback I get from comments on this video with Garmin though!

Wow! First, I'm so glad to see you featured this!! I wish I was at the show myself... maybe one year I'll make it. We're very proud and pleased Shearwater divers BUT it's hard to ignore what these folks at Garmin are doing with the MK3i. Having the MK2i was fantastic enough, but now all this!!? The transmitter range, ability to monitor your buddies gas pressure and depth, and messaging alone is enough to sell me. It's getting harder now to justify having a "diving only" computer with all these features... even at these very steep prices.

As a shearwater Perdix and Perdix 2 owner, I admit this is super compelling. I have the Apple Watch for my daily watch that’s about 4 years old, but the Mk3i makes me really consider a change. I want the activity tracking so I considered the Apple Watch ultra or ultra 2, but now idk! Glad to have covered it and I’m hoping they send me a Mk3i and maybe mk2i as well so I can compare and review after in water testing!

It might take a bit, but I’m sure this Garmin offering has the guys at Apple taking notice! Being an Apple user.. do I wait? Or jump into Garmin? At these prices…. It’s a hard choice! But it’s a great time for us divers!!!

I have the problem that each jump in water counts as a dive - and you can delete the dive - but the counter still counts it as a dive - so the counter is always wrong! Is anybody here who have solved this problem?

@CircleHScuba It's pretty good, I love it. It's not only for diving but I use it for mountaineering as well, but the AMOLED is just amazing for the MK3

water absorbs radio waves (gps). it is necessary to start the dive mode over the water to have a start position.

So the messaging goes through the transceiver, (the new T2 transceiver). So you HAVE to have the hardware for air integration to use it. I don't think it's just a software thing unfortunately, so I would say no, it won't be getting it.

I asked that myself. Right now no. They have preset messages you cannot customize or change or add to. But I was told that MAY come in the future. For now at launch the idea is replacing common hand signals

Confirmed today it’s the gen4 not the gen5. Said they don’t have any plans to do the gen5 and it was likely due to the gen4 being the only option when it was being put into production

Solar charging is not on the Mk3 series. They did also release the G1s for solar though. Not sure on the fenix but I heard the solar charging is very minimal supplemental charging and not a replacement at all

I’m not Garmin, but that’s a good question for them from the sound of it. Are you saying the previous T1 transmitter made an audible noise underwater? I’m going to be testing the Mk3i and T2 out very soon, so I can see if I hear anything. Not sure if that’s what you meant or not, but let me know and I’ll see if I hear anything when I dive with it.

Yes it did. Almost all diver when doing tests did report it. Not a big deal but little anoing as reportes

If you google “20 atm depth” you’ll see that’s a common way to rate watch depth for 200m water resistance. It’s 20 ATM Gauge pressure, not absolute pressure, so at 10m it’s 1 ATM gauge, 2 ATM absolute.

Super cool they have the messaging aspect thought. Hand signals are confusing for newbies. I see this being very useful for instructors that are already using the MK2 to keep an eye on everyone’s PSI

if any newbie is finding hard signals confusing, he should not be diving in the first place. this is not a hobby like football or basketball, things can go spiral really quickly.

@rafael6693 I agree, though I think @souswes is referring to when you have that new open water diver that doesn’t realize you’re asking for gas pressure because they’ve only done checkout dives. I think it’s a good feature for team diving when you’re not necessarily right next to someone on your mission

As a Diving Instructor, I don't like this feature. If people doesn't care about signals, nor will it make them check messages on the diving computer. For me, this option is completely pointless and unnecessary. I don't go underwater to receive messages on my smartwatch xD

I wonder how this is as an everyday watch. I have the Phoenix 6 pro and it is incredible. I've been wearing it for 3 years now and charge it once every 3 weeks. I do have the Teric but this thing is over the top cool.

I think it's basically the same functions and capabilities as the new Epix Pro (the Amoled version of the Fenix 7 Pro). Hey - the F6 is a great watch. Used it for years. but once you go AMOLED, you'll never go back. Unless you really need the extra battery life.

I just found out that the new T2 Transceivers will offer “reduced audible noise”. So silent… no. But this is a step in the right direction. I’m wondering exactly how greatly reduced the noise will be.

As a dive master with the mk2i I see this a a escape goat to checking on buddy’s but this will make divers lazy with the signaling and also that your buddy should be in your sight at all times also has the exact same features and little gimics to justify a price increase

The message feature I can see being useful in some cases. Not so much teaching open water or even most of the main track of classes but maybe some specialties. Tec diving for teams communicating I can see it being useful too. Or in a missing diver scenario. More so emergency based than in replacing hand signals and such. Good points on your end!
