I'm a little old school so I don't understand the concept of using a fish finder while I am actually fishing. I see the benefit of using while looking at depth and cover.

I'm with you and usually do more with a map before I start fishing, then use regular sonar while fishing. Now I do have one lake with a long hump underwater. It's about 200 yards long and about 3' deep at the hump, dropping off to 10' or 12' along one side, and almost 20' deep on the other. I found by having my map colored so I know what depth my boat is in, it's real easy to drift or motor along the length of the hump and just glance quickly at what color my boat is in to make sure I'm at the right depth, and haven't drifted too far away or gotten too close to the hump. I've also had a couple small humps out in the middle of the lake. Here I'll use the map to get me to the hump the first time. But marking the hump with a waypoint means you only have to do that once.

Outdoors with Don and Bob thank you for the reply. I'm going to give it a good shot. Hope it changes my fishing life. Lol

I didn't make many maps so this one was the only one on the mini SD card.
